Contraction: a Unified Perspective of Correlation Decay and Zero-Freeness of 2-Spin Systems

We study complex zeros of the partition function of 2-spin systems, viewed as a multivariate polynomial in terms of the edge interaction parameters and the uniform external field. We obtain new zero-free regions in which all these parameters are complex-valued. Crucially based on the zero-freeness, we show the existence of correlation decay in these regions. As a consequence, we obtain an FPTAS for computing the partition function of 2-spin systems on graphs of bounded degree for these parameter settings. We introduce the contraction property as a unified sufficient condition to devise FPTAS via either Weitz's algorithm or Barvinok's algorithm. Our main technical contribution is a very simple but general approach to extend any real parameter of which the 2-spin system exhibits correlation decay to its complex neighborhood where the partition function is zero-free and correlation decay still exists. This result formally establishes the inherent connection between two distinct notions of phase transition for 2-spin systems: the existence of correlation decay and the zero-freeness of the partition function via a unified perspective, contraction.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures. Update: two correlation decay sets were added; a discussion with an independent work by Liu with similar results was give

Characterization of entomopathogenic fungi from invasive fall armyworm in China and their risk to native pest.

The concentration of fungus in all fungal treatments is 2×108 spores/ml. The mortality caused by the same fungus isolate was compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by post hoc Tukey tests with insect species as the factor, the data were checked for normality by Shapiro-Wilk tests before analysis. The data represent the mean of five replicates with standard error. Data with different letters indicate significant differences among different insect species with the same fungal treatment

A simple configuration for fabrication of 2D and 3D photonic quasicrystals with complex structures

    No full text
A simple method using a single-prism common-path interferometer is presented for the fabrication of complex quasicrystals in sub-micrometer scales. Multiple types of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) quasicrystalline structures are designed and their diffraction patterns are obtained by using Fourier Transform method. Multi-fold rotational symmetries are demonstrated and compared. By using this method, a wide range of quasicrystals types can be produced with arbitrary complexities and rotational symmetries. The transmittance studies of 12-fold and 18-fold structures also reveal the existence of complete photonic bandgaps, which also demonstrates increased symmetry and significantly improved characteristics of photonic band-gaps

Energy-Efficient Train Operation: Conclusions and Future Work

    No full text
This chapter gives the basic conclusions about energy-efficient train operation covering energy-efficient train driving, energy-efficient train timetabling, regenerative braking, energy storage systems and power supply networks. Future work that will develop energy-efficient train operation further include the interaction of connected driver advisory systems (C-DAS) and automatic train operation (ATO) with railway traffic management systems, cooperative train control in platoons of virtually coupled trains, digital twin technology and particularly its application to power supply systems, and the interaction between the railway network with the electrical power grid and renewable energy generation.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Transport and Plannin
