Protective effect of the daming capsule on impaired baroreflexes in STZ-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia
Abstract Background The Daming capsule (DMC) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat hyperlipoidemia. Both clinic trials and studies on animal models have demonstrated that DMC is beneficial against diabetic symptoms. Impairment of the baroreflex can cause life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). This study was designed to elucidate the effects of DMC on baroreflexes in streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia. Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: untreated controls, rats pretreated STZ and high lipids (a diabetes model or DM rats), and DM rats treated with DMC. The baroreflex sensitivity was examined during intravenous injection of phenylephrine (PE) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and quantified by the change in heart rate over the change in mean arterial blood pressure (ΔHR/ΔMABP). Morphological remodeling of baroreceptors was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mRNA levels and expression of GluR2 and a GABAA receptor subunit were measured by quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting. Results Compared to untreated DM rats, DMC significantly elevated the ratio of ΔHR/ΔMABP by enhancing the compensatory reduction in HR (-ΔHR) in response to PE-induced hypertension (+ΔMABP) (P P P A receptor expression. Conclusion The Daming capsule partially reversed the parasympathetic baroreflex impairment observed in STZ-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia. Treatment with DMC also prevented the degeneration of neurons and myelinated axons in the brain stem NAm and reversed the down-regulation of GluR2 mRNA. Rescue of NAm function may contribute to the medicinal properties of DMC in diabetic rats.</p

Haoyu Liu.</p> <p> <b>Diagnosis.</b> This new species is similar to <i>P. planidorsalis</i> Gorochov, 1988, but differs from the ectoparameron distinctly wider, and lateral lobe rather long; the lateral part of ectoparameron obviously bent to the dorsal side, and the end hook different in shape.</p> <p> <b>Description. Male</b> (Fig. 4). Body medium sized, pubescent. Head relatively short, and almost equal to anterior margin of pronotum. Frontal rostrum flat, scapus almost 2.0 times as wide as frontal rostrum. Eyes rather bulging. Lateral ocelli small, granular, medial ocellus longitudinal and not clear. Pronotum distinctly widening posteriorly, disc flattened, with lateral margins angularly rounded into paranota. Tegmina with 3 long and 3 short oblique veins; lateral field with 15–17 subcostal veinlets, apical field is regular; mirror slightly longer than broad (13:11). Hind wings distinctly longer than tegmina. Metanotal gland (Fig.17) slightly wide, the upper half lateral margin short and distinctly swollen, length–width ratio (15:17), an obtuse angle protruding at posterior margin.Anterior tibia swollen at tympana, internal tympanum with a long slit–like opening on posterior side; external tympanum oval and free.</p> <p>Supra anal plate (Fig. 20) is linked by the diaphragm at the end and covered with short hairs except for the central part, the posterior margin wider round. Subgenital plate distinctly narrowed posteriorly, with circular posterior margin. Phallus (Fig.10–12) relatively strong. Epiphallus rather long, slightly narrow in the middle, and with a pair of serrated protuberance at the end. Ectoparameron obviously wider than epiphallus, with long lateral lobe, the ends ossified hook, lateral margins bend distinctly to the back. Formula slightly ossified, lateral view can see the bone slices.</p> <p>Coloration. Body greenish when alive. Head with narrow longitudinal yellowish stripes behind eyes. Antennae brownish. Disc of pronotum with a pair of slightly large round black spots on the middle, and lateral edges with yellowish stripes. Tegmen unicolor, with a yellowish stripe along lateral edge of dorsal area. All legs almost yellowish.</p> <p> <b>Female</b> (Fig. 5). Female approximate male. But the body is slightly stronger than male. Tegmina with 10 longitudinal veins in dorsal part, later field with 13–15 subcostal veinlets.</p> <p> <b>Measurements</b> (<b>mm</b>). Group Differences Among Nongmingong: A Follow-up Ethnographic Case Study
This study probes the differences between two generations of nongmingong by presenting and analyzing the ethnographic fieldwork data collected in a labor-intensive enterprise. In the article the authors tend to stress two points. The first is about the attitude to the choice of “reflux” and “job-hopping”. It is suggested that “reflux” and “job-hopping” are two different practices and attempts for both new and old nongmingong when confronted with future development, which may be viewed an opportunity for them. It also suggests that “reflux” and “job-hopping” may represent the needs for self-actualization, strategies and means of mobility or even the different ways of worldview between rural and urban residents of the new and old nongmingong. The second point is about the process of self-categorization of the nongmingong, which illustrates how they are divided by the ideas and options.
