Tapping Economies of Scale and Scope in Consumer Cooperation - A Case Analysis of Possible Cooperation among selected Cooperatives
Because of its narrow and negative perspective of safeguarding the interests of only poor consumers against unethical practices of the private traders, consumer cooperation in India seems to have failed, except probably in some isolated pockets. A number of social welfare functions like poverty alleviation and public distribution of essential items of consumption have been imposed on them at the cost of their basic economics. With the basic micro and macro-economic rationale for consumer cooperatives as a positive form of economic organization being lost sight of, they seem to be facing enormous problems both historically as well as currently in a era of economic liberalization. Their worries seem to have been compounded with the threat of impending competition from large private enterpriss - both domestic and foreign, which highlights the need for evolving strategies to rectivy their systemic weaknesses and tackling the competition head on. This case has attempted to document just such an initiative through a round table conference with several doyens of the consumer cooperative movement in India such as Warana Bazar and Amalsad Mandali as well as some fledging consumer cooperatives from West Bengal which are already in existence for some time or contemplating entry into this field. The roundtable conference organized in the spirit of Cooperation among Cooperatives attempted to evolve strategies to capture economies of scale and scope in order to take on the competition, as well as to facilitate dissemination of ideas and information across the country.
Transcriptional FIdelity of RNA Polymerase II
This research aims to elucidate possible genes that affect transcriptional fidelity of RNA polymerase II (pol II) and quantify these affects in vivo. The main focus of this project is the small nonessential subunit of RNA pol II, Rpb9, which is needed for accurate transcription, and the potential proteins the subunit interacts with. Possible gene candidates were selected based on synthetic lethality when they are simultaneously deleted with RPB9 or by their ability to suppress mutations in RPB9. An in vivo assay in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, used for this project, takes advantage of the transposable element Ty1. RNA transcribed from Ty1 DNA encodes a reverse transcriptase that copies the RNA into DNA and allows it to randomly insert into a host cell chromosome. Errors that occur during transcription of Ty1 RNA become permanent changes in the inserted chromosomal DNA that can be identified and counted. This research is only a small part of a much larger objective that attempts to explain the molecular mechanisms by which the cell maintains the fidelity of transcription. Maintaining fidelity is critical for cells; with poor fidelity RNA pol II would transcribe a "faulty" message, leading to the translation of a mutated or nonfunctioning protein which could disrupt normal cellular functions. This can be seen in transcriptional mutagenesis in which certain types of DNA damage result in misincorporation of nucleotides rather than transcriptional arrest. Another example of the importance of fidelity is molecular misreadings in which transcription errors, particularly insertions that cause frameshifts, have been implicated in age related diseases such as Alzheimer's. The preliminary results of this research have shown that this in vivo fidelity assay provides a valid way to quantify the effects of specific gene deletions on transcriptional fidelity. Proteins that were initially investigated were ones associated with RNA pol II: TFIIS (DST1) and the SAGA complex (SPT7). Preliminary experiments strongly suggested that TFIIS was not essential for RNA pol II fidelity. These experiments showed that wild type and dst1- cells each had indistinguishable error frequencies. These data are consistent with experiments conducted by Dr. Peterson using a different in vivo assay; however it contradicts a commonly held notion regarding TFIIS involvement in fidelity. This research is now currently constructing new yeast strains with the correct alleles need for the in vivo fidelity assay. Also, a strain containing a 1-59 amino acid deletion on Rpb9 has been created and is almost ready to test in the fidelity assay
Determination of Asymmetric Cell Division in the Drosophila Larval Central Nervous System
Program year: 1996/1997Digitized from print original stored in HDRNeuroblasts in the central nervous system of Drosophila have been increasingly utilized as a model for stem-cell study due to their clearly defined asymmetric division pattern and ease of genetic, cellular, and molecular analysis. This research involved looking at the control of asymmetric division in the different populations of neuroblasts throughout the larval instars using pros expression as a marker for asymmetric division. The pros protein is asymmetrically localized in the Ganglion mother cell and is necessary for establishing Ganglion mother cell fate. The results indicate that the role of pros in establishing GMC cell fate is implicated in the larva in addition to the embryo and that pros would be a good marker for most asymmetric division in the larval stages. However, pros is not an universal marker. Although it is expressed in the thoracic and central brain neuroblasts, it is not expressed in the asymmetrically dividing optic lobe neuroblasts, indicating that another mechanism for establishing cell fate in the optic lobe needs to be explored. Finally, staining with trol mutants and preliminary staining with ana mutants indicate that pros expression is coupled with the activation of cell division
Aspek Sosiologi Pengarang Pada Struktur Batin Puisi Watashi Ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki
Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki Karya Ibaragi Noriko. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis, dengan pendekatan sosiologi pengarang oleh Wellek dan Warren (1994). Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mendeskripsikan objek penelitian kemudian menganalisis hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi. Hasil penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi, yaitu pada aspek status sosial pengarang dengan tema dan aspek latar belakang sosial budaya pengarang dengan amanat. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat diketahui bahwa puisi Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki ditulis oleh Ibaragi Noriko berdasarkan peristiwa yang terjadi dalam hidupnya.

Abstract
This research aims to determine the relationship of the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of the poetry Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki by Ibaragi Noriko. This research uses descriptive analysis method, with the author\u27s sociology approach by Wellek and Warren (1994). This research was conducted by describing the object of research then analyzing the relationship of the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of the poetry. The result of this research is that there is a relationship between the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of poetry, namely on the aspect of the author\u27s social status with the theme and aspect of the author\u27s socio-cultural background with the mandate. From the results of this research, it can be seen that the poetry Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki was written by Ibaragi Noriko based on events that occurred in his life.

Identifying protein-protein interactions of a cell cycle regulator

Synthesis of identifiable ana protein was necessary. The identifying method exploited was that of antibody tagging using a myc epitope or a poly-Histidine region. Analysis of previously utilized complementary DNA (cDNA) sequences showed errors in the alignment of the reading frame. Methods were employed to clone the required ana cDNA sequence into an expression vector (pBAD/Myc-HisA) within the correct reading frame. Restriction endonucleases were then used to confirm that the cDNA sequence and the expression vector had ligated properly. Analysis of the results from the single- and double-restriction digests showed that the ana cDNA (1.6 kilobases) was successfully cloned and ligated into the pBAD/Myc-HisA (4.1 kilobases) expression vector. The ana cDNA was also successfully cloned in frame with the sequence coding for the myc epitope and the poly-Histidine region. This data provides groundwork for the expression of identifiable ana protein
Investigating the Impact of COVID-19 on the First Year Eats Program
First Year Eats (FYE) is a program at Texas A&M University developed to lessen food insecurity and its impact on college campuses. In its three years of development, students in the program have been provided with various cooking lessons that teach participants how to prepare simple meals in a dorm room and food resources such as ingredients and other grocery store items in a community kitchen. To assess the program's success, we have used student GPA as a measure of academic success and two surveys aimed at measuring mental health wellness. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was used to measure stress levels, and the University Belonging Questionnaire (UBQ) was used to measure university belongingness. Students participating in the FYE learning community are compared with a population of learning community students not in the FYE program (NFYE). Three academic years of data, including the first, second, and current students participating in FYE, were investigated. The results of the combined dataset of first- and second-year groups revealed that underrepresented minorities and first-generation students in FYE had a statistically significantly higher GPA than similar students not in the program during the Spring semester of their first year. This significant difference in GPA was not found during the students' Fall semester, suggesting that the FYE program played a role in improving academic performance. The FYE program continues to play a role in academic success and mental health for participants, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Current students in the program revealed a statistically significant higher Fall midterm GPA for students within FYE compared to NFYE students. This preliminary analysis also indicated that FYE was a factor in predicting midterm grades in Fall 2021. Regarding early PSS and UBQ survey analysis, FYE students in Fall 2021 had a higher level of belongingness than NFYE students. Although the findings were statistically insignificant, additional investigation into the Spring 2022 semester could reveal more about the program's impact on student mental wellness. Further study regarding the effects of remote learning and the pandemic could be investigated in the future for the improvements of the FYE program
Investigating How the First Year Eats Program Affects Students Mentally and Academically
The First Year Eats Program (FYE) provides first-year university students among select dorms across Texas A&M University with the option to participate in learning about and taking with them nutritious and delicious recipes including the ingredients to their dorm rooms. By comparing students with similar demographics in the same dorms who did not participate in FYE to students who participated, we wanted to note any significant results between the two populations in terms of their academic success measured by their GPA scores as well as the retention rate along with their mental health which was measured by two surveys: The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the University Belongingness Questionnaire (UBQ). Both last academic year���s batch of FYE students and this academic year���s batch of FYE students have been investigated in this project. Comparing the midterm GPA scores for last year���s students FYE vs. NFYE (Non-First Year Eats) have shown that FYE students showed a statistically significant increase from their Fall 2019 Midterm GPA scores to their Spring 2020 Midterm GPA scores while NFYE students did not show any significant increase to their GPA scores within the same time. For students this year, results have shown that those who participated in FYE have shown a statistically significant and remarkable increase to their GPA scores as well as their mental health compared to those who did not participate once the effects of the program could be seen after a full semester of the program. Some future areas of interest for study regarding the program would be to further investigate other effects outside of GPA scores and mental health
Exploring the Impacts of the First Year Eats Program During Sophomore Year
A major issue faced by many college students is food insecurity. Students who lack quality food often have lower grades and poorer mental health than those who have access to the food they need. The First Year Eats (FYE) program at Texas A&M University aims to address this problem by providing freshman students in need with food and cooking lessons. The goal is to help students not only have quality food, but also learn skills that will help them be healthier and more confident in general. In the past three years, this program has been evaluated to determine its effect. A comparison of FYE to non-FYE freshmen showed that FYE students tend to achieve higher grades, be less stressed and have better emotional wellbeing. To continue this research, I have analyzed sophomore students, comparing those who were formerly in FYE to those who were not. I used a student wellbeing survey and two years of sophomore grades to identify differences between these two populations. Results showed that former FYE students still had higher GPAGPRs in the first semester of their sophomore year than non-former-FYE students. This indicates that the impact of the FYE program lasts beyond just the time that students are involved in it. Furthermore, those students who had participated in FYE also reported being more likely to consider health when shopping at the grocery store, compared to students who were not in FYE. Lastly, results indicated that FYE students were less likely to withdraw from the university within their first 4 semesters. In the future, it would be of interest to compare graduation rates between FYE students and non-FYE students. As the program grows and develops, researchers could also investigate which methods are most effective in increasing participation and involvement. Additionally, based on the promising results from this study, it would be encouraged for other colleges to adopt similar programs that could achieve positive effects on their students as well

The replacement name is dedicated to G.S. Arora, author of the basic publication on the fauna of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Remark. The taxon tripunctata Reich, 1935 was described under the genus Lyclene. Here we transfer it to the genus Cyana and synonymize with C. detrita (see above). Thus, at present there are two Cyana taxa with the name tripunctata, so tripunctata Rothschild, 1936 becomes a junior secondary homonym of tripunctata Reich, 1935. Hence, we introduce the replacement name arorai nom. nov. for tripunctata Rothschild, 1936. Diagnosis. Forewing length is 12.5–15 mm in males and 17–18 mm in females. Cyana arorai is a polymorphic species, significantly variable in size. Cyana arorai is similar externally to C. carmina (Figs 13, 14), but differs by its arcuate antemedial line (that is oblique in C. carmina) and larger black discal spots. In females of C. arorai a third, posterior black spot may be developed (Figs 16, 17), what is unusual for the C. insularis group. The female genitalia of C. arorai are very similar to those of C. carmina (Figs 239, 240), but differ by the more heavily sclerotized cervix bursae having narrower longitudinal folds, and the lateral band-like signum being more weakly sclerotized subanteriorly with its anterior end strongly broadened. Distribution. Endemic of the Andaman Islands.
