Pornography addiction and its influence on sexual behavior, intimate relationship and other life domains

    No full text
Over the past few decades, scientific literatures increasingly reporting about pornography addiction as a serious issue (Kar, 2016). Pornography is defined as the portrayal of sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual arousal using various means that include books, magazines, drawings, videos, and video gaming. In other terms, it is the depiction of the act rather than the act itself (George et al., 2019). In recent years, pornography viewing has increased significantly with easy access to internet and mobile phones. Self-perceived pornography addiction (SPPA) is becoming more widely recognised as a phenomenon in science and popular culture, with critics wa r ning of the a l l eg ed neg a t ive consequences. Despite this, 'pornography' or 'porn addiction' is not a scientifically recognised condition, and scholars disagree on its meaning, whether it even exists (Duffy et al., 2016)

A study on neurocognitive function in recovered acute psychosis patients

    No full text
Objective: Acute psychosis is one of the common psychotic illnesses described as "acute and transient psychotic disorder" in ICD-10 and "brief psychotic disorder" in DSM-IV-TR. Onset is usually abrupt to acute and the illness subsides within 1 to 3 months. Complete recovery usually occurs. Cognition is expected to return to pre-morbid level with recovery. The aims of this study is to study the neurocognitive function of patients with acute psychosis after complete recovery. Methods: A total of 180 patients initially diagnosed to be suffering from acute psychosis as per the criteria of ICD-10-DCR, 1993 were screened and kept in follow-up for 3 months. Cognitive assessment of 20 patients satisfying selection criteria were done using Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Spatial Working Memory Test (SWMT), and Continuous Performance Test (CPT) after full recovery from acute psychosis, and compared with healthy controls. Results: There was significant improvement in performance in WCST, CPT, and SWMT following recovery from acute psychosis. Cognitive parameters of the patient group were compared with that of healthy controls and there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion: With complete recovery from acute psychosis, there occurs improvement in cognitive functions almost to the pre-morbid level. Executive functions, working memory, attention and concentration return to pre-morbid level

An extremely rare association of Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome with mania: Coincidence or comorbidity

Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome is a progressive spondylo-epi-metaphyseal dysplasia associated with mental retardation, characterized by a triad of skeletal deformities (short trunk dwarfism, scoliosis, microcephaly, and limb deformities), facial dysmorphism, and intellectual disability. It an extremely rare condition. Till now, there was no evidence of association of Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen Syndrome with mood disorder. This case report highlights the extremely rare association of Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome with bipolar affective disorder. The patient had responded well to the combination of mood stabilizer and antipsychotics (sodium valproate and risperidone). To the best of author′s knowledge, this is the first case report depicting such association. Both Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome and bipolar affective disorder are associated with 18q chromosome. This background information raises the possibility of co-morbid association of two disorders rather than a chance association due to genetic linkage

Part 4: Social Media and Web 3.0 for SmartnessInternational audienceElections are the most critical events for any nation and paves the path for future growth and prosperity of the economy. Due to its high impact, a lot of discussions take place among all stakeholders in social media. In this study, we attempt to examine the discussions surrounding USA Election, 2016 in Twitter. Further we highlight some of the domains influencing the voter behaviour by applying the outcome of Twitter analytics to Newman and Sheth’s model of Voter Choice. Through the analysis of 784,153 tweets from 287,838 users over 18 weeks, we present interesting findings on what may have affected the polarization of USA elections

Understanding the impact of digital service failure on users: Integrating Tan's failure and DeLone and McLean's success model

    No full text
Although information systems (IS) success has been given much attention in IS literature, failure has received lesser attention. This study empirically validates a model of digital service failure for consumers by integrating three dimensions from Tan's failure model and one dimension from DeLone and Mclean's Information Success model. The factors have been mapped to Expectation Disconfirmation Theory (EDT). Experiential survey approach has been used to collect primary data from information systems users who have experienced digital service failure. Structural equation modeling (SEM) has been used for model testing and validation to measure the impact of information, system, functional and service failure of digital service on end users. The findings suggests that information, functional, system and service failure has an impact on the consumers through the outcome, process, cost and user satisfaction of digital services.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Information and Communication Technolog
