The prizewinning author of novels, nonfiction, and hybrid texts, Amitav Ghosh grew up in India and trained as an anthropologist. His works have been translated in over thirty languages. They cross and mix a number of genres, from science fiction to the historical novel, incorporating ethnohistory and travelogue and even recuperating dead languages. His subjects include climate change, postcolonial identities, translocation, migration, oceanic spaces, and the human interface with the environment

In this paper we study the uniqueness of entire functions sharing two polynomials with their derivatives. The results of the paper improve the corresponding results of Chang and Fang (Kodai Math.J. 25(2002), 309–320) and Lahiri-Ghosh(Present author) (Analysis ,Munich. 31(2011), 47–59)
Performance Evaluation of a Guarded Hot Box U-value Measurement Facility under Different Software based Temperature Control Strategies
AbstractEnergy conservation and energy management can be achieved in buildings by reducing the load on the HVAC systems used in the buildings. This is possible by reducing the magnitude of heat flow through the building materials and components such as the windows, ceilings, floors, walls, etc. The thermal performance of a material can be evaluated by measuring its overall heat transfer coefficient or the U-value. The U-value of a material can be measured using the Guarded Hot Box method. The setup comprises of three parts – the metering box, the guard box and the cold box. In this method a constant heat flow needs to be maintained through the test specimen from the metering box to the cold box. Thus it is important to control temperatures in all the three parts accurately. In the present work the temperatures of the metering box and the guard box have been controlled using three different software based temperature control strategies. In the first two strategies on-off control was implemented while in the third strategy proportional control was implemented. From the experimental data it was found that similar performances were obtained in the first two test cases where the temperatures could be controlled satisfactorily. Whereas, in the third case steady state offset was obtained while controlling the metering box temperature and the guard box temperature showed fluctuations

Beyond national literatures: Empire and Amitav Ghosh
Scholarship on the writer Amitav Ghosh has addressed issues of nationalism, postcolonial identity, ecocriticism, testimony, subalternity, and historiography. But the idea of Ghosh as an Asian American author with a particular relationship to the United States and its national mythologies, has barely been considered. In this essay, I explore this neglected aspect of Ghosh’s œuvre by looking at the idea of America in his writing and by situating his work within what I term "the Bengali American grain". Reading his work alongside that of other Bengali American writers and arguing that it is more ambitious thematically and more anti-imperialistic, I probe Ghosh’s problematic relationship with the United States, asking how his hemispheric writing continues to extend and even alter the terrain often associated with Asian American literature

On the Span of ℓ Distance Coloring of Infinite Hexagonal Grid
For a graph G(V, E) and ℓ ∈ N, an ℓ distance coloring is a coloring f : V → {1, 2, . . ., t} of V with t colors such that ∀u, v ∈ V, u ̸= v, f(u) ̸= f(v) when d(u, v) ≤ ℓ. Here d(u, v) is the distance between u and v and is equal to the minimum number of edges that connect u and v in G. The span of ℓ distance coloring of G, χℓ(G), is the minimum t among all ℓ distance coloring of G. A class of channel assignment problem in cellular network can be formulated as a distance graph coloring problem in regular grid graphs. The cellular network is often modelled as an infinite hexagonal grid H, and hence determining χℓ(H) has relevance from practical point of view. Jacko and Jendrol [Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory, 2005] determined the exact value of χℓ(H) for any odd ℓ and for even ℓ ≥ 8, it is conjectured that χℓ(H) = - 3 8 (ℓ + 4 3 )2 - where [x] is an integer, x ∈ R and x− 1 2 \u3c [x] ≤ x+ 1 2 . For ℓ = 8, the conjecture has been proved by Ghosh and Koley [22nd Italian Conference on Theoretical Computer Science, 2021]. In this paper, we prove the conjecture for any even ℓ ≥ 10

Then (11:43) we are very pleased to welcome to the podcast acclaimed novelist, Amitav Ghosh, author of The Shadow Lines (1988), The Hungry Tide (2004) and The Ibis trilogy (2008-2015), among many other works. We talk about his latest work of non-fiction, The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable (University of Chicago Press, 2016) and why he thinks it has proven so difficult to bring climate change into literature. We discuss the worldview of the novel and how its emphasis on creating believable narratives has excluded precisely the kinds of unlikely anthropocenic encounters that are becoming increasingly frequent across the world. Amitav argues that before an alternate world can become a reality, it needs to become an imaginative reality and this is why the arts are so crucial to coming to terms with the Anthropocene. We also discuss “serious” art’s fear of being deemed merely “illustrative” and how this may be linked to a Cold War aversion to the aesthetics of socialist realism. Now, Amitav warns, the world has risen up as a protagonist even as our means of representation aren’t up to engaging it. He predicts that the mansions of serious fiction will suffer a similar fate to the mansions of Miami beach as our waters rise. We talk about what is really being denied in climate change denial and how the privileges and comforts of a carbon-fueled lifestyle is something which neither the West nor Asia is prepared to give up. We close with Amitav’s own next novel project and how climate change inspires him personally and artistically
