The construction of Karen Karnak: The multi-author-function

    No full text
This thesis is situated within the comparatively recent developments of Web 2.0 and the emergence of interactive WikiMedia, and explores the mode of authorship within a Read/Write culture compared to that of a Read/Only tradition. The hypothesis of this study is that the role of the audience has become merged with the author, and as such, represents new functions and attributes, distinct from a more conventional concept of authorship, in which the roles of audience and author are more separate. Read/Write and participatory culture, as defined by this study, is focused on collaboration, and includes the influences of D.I.Y. culture, Open-Source practices and the production of text by multiple authors. Multi-authorship presents a re-thinking of several concepts which support the notion of the individual author, since the focus of multi-authorship is not on attribution and ownership of a finished text, but on the continued malleability of a text. Modes of multi-authorship, demonstrated in the use of the pseudonyms Alan Smithee and Karen Eliot, represent declarative authors whose names signify multiple origins, whilst concurrently indicating a distinct body of work. The function of these names form an important context to this study, since primary research involves the construction of an experimental mode of multi-authorship utilising WikiMedia technology and the interaction of thirty nine participants, who are invited to create a body of work under the collective pseudonym Karen Karnak. The data generated by this experiment is analysed using aspects of Michel Foucault's author-function to identify and determine power structures inherent in the WikiMedia context. The interplay of power structures, including concepts such as identity, ownership and the body of work, affect the resulting mode of authorship and contribute to the construction of Karen Karnak, suggesting further areas of research into the emerging multi-author

Eucalyptus honey: Quality parameters, chemical composition and health-promoting properties

    No full text
Eucalyptus honey is an important unifloral honey commercialized worldwide and much desired by consumers due to the medicinal properties attributed to it because of the plant from which it is produced. In general, eucalyptus honey has been classified as being rich in pollen grains from the eucalyptus tree as well as having physicochemical characteristics that, in a way, have made it stand out from other honeys. Similar to other types of honey, eucalyptus honey can suffer contaminations and adulterations that compromise its quality, safety and authenticity. Thus, detailed knowledge of the composition and properties of this monofloral honeys is of great importance. With this background, the aim of this review is to present and discuss recent data regarding the physicochemical characteristics, chemical and health-promoting properties of eucalyptus honey as well as microbial contamination, authenticity, processing and adulteration

Adaptation of rhythmic motifs made by percussion instruments from the Colombian Pacific to the drums, in the traditional genres currulao and tamborito

    No full text
This degree work focuses on the investigation of different rhythmic patterns that have been established over the years within the currulao and the drum, characteristic genres of the Colombian South and North Pacific respectively. After having this approach, make proposals for groove adaptations to the drums, taking into account their sound and rhythmic similarities with the traditional percussion instruments of these two genres from the Colombian Pacific. As a final result, our proposals seek to increase the bibliographical reference work for the different percussionists who want to perform these musical genres on the drums since the vast majority of the time traditional Pacific instruments are not available

This thesis has three parts. The first of these provides a synthetic Theoretical Framework on Knowledge Management within the company and on the Organisational Culture Directed at Sharing what is inherent to this. The author of the thesis proposes a Model for Initiating a Process of Cultural Auditing within the Company, based on Cultural Change. The second part covers the development of an empirical research project carried out through the ethnographical method, as well as the results obtained through this. Duran undertakes the Cultural Auditing of a High Technology company with respect to Knowledge Management. The third part sets out the conclusions to this research and the related suggestions, in accordance with the question under discussion. The first proposal deals with the role that an Education graduate should play in the ambit of Knowledge Management within the Company. The author then makes a specific proposal for initiating a Global and Formal Process of Knowledge Management within the company studied, basing this upon the Cultural Auditing that has been undertaken

Predicting the Natural Gas Demand Based on Economic Indicators: Case of Turkey

    No full text
This article presents a heuristic approach to estimate Turkey's natural gas demand based on economic indicators. The proposed heuristic methods are based on simulated annealing, which is locating a good approximation to the global optimum of a given function in a large search space. An approach based on simulated annealing is first used to forecast natural gas demand. A simulated annealing natural gas demand estimation model uses economical indicators, such as gross domestic product, population, import, and export. Linear and quadratic forms of simulated annealing natural gas demand estimation are proposed and quadratic simulated annealing natural gas demand estimation provided a better fit solution. The simulating annealing natural gas demand estimation model predicts Turkey's natural gas demand until 2025.M. The possibilities of architectural resistance

    No full text
Through the history, architecture, urbanism and production of space in general have always been a reflection of the political economic and socio-cultural processes of the society where they occurred. Therefore architects and planners have been consciously or unconsciously related with dominant modes of production and political powers, by executing spatial programs of their clients. Architecture has rarely taken political initiative itself, except of some points in the history, (beginning of the 20th century) when avant-garde political projects and progressive art and architecture movements worked in a close collaboration to imagine different worlds. Today, in the post political condition, the urgent necessity emerges of rethinking the way space is produced and the role of urbanists, planners and architects in the society.DSD Urban AsymmetriesArchitectur
