In this short paper we reflect on the theme of emigration from Italy and on the communities of italians who live permanently abroad. This phenomenon is not only relevant to the past but is still very present, and involves the survivors of the first generations of last century's great exodus and their children, and a new flow of emigrant. Especially migrant young people, who in a time of economic crisis, harship and difficult working conditions are leaving our country in increasing numbers. We measure the flow of emigration from Italy by statistics on Inscriptions and Cancellations from the population register; populations of Italians abroad are described on the basis of AIRE results (Registry of Italians Living Abroad)

No full textWith the rapid expansion of research and policy interest in migration over the last two decades there has been a significant paradigm shift, that considerably informed our understanding of the recent migration process and its effects. Aim of this paper is to examine the long-term trends of Italian migration to Australia according to this theoretical framework, within the international context and focussing on the last two decades. Analyzing the most recent data – both those collected by Istat (Italy) and by Diac (Australia) – this research identifies a new wave of Italian emigration that is heading to Australia, highlighting the features and linking it to the recent economic crisis, particularly hard within Italy

No full textIl Centro di Ricerca EuroSapienza – Studi Europei, Internazionali e sullo Sviluppo - presenta il risultato del dibattito e del confronto su un tema, caro a Giuseppe Burgio, intorno a cui ruota l’attività di studio e di ricerca multidisciplinare che caratterizza il Centro stesso. Il volume raccoglie infatti i contributi presentati dagli autori in occasione della conferenza internazionale «Beyond Boundaries. Conference in honour of Giuseppe Burgio», che si è svolta alla Facoltà di Economia dell’Università degli studi di Roma La Sapienza, il giorno 6 novembre 2013, e che è stata organizzata da un Comitato scientifico composto da Claudio Cecchi, Angela Magistro, Giorgio Milanetti, Giuseppe Sancetta, Donatella Strangio. Dopo l’introduzione di Raimondo Cagiano de Azevedo e Claudio Cecchi, il tema del superamento del confini geografici, disciplinari, culturali ecc. è declinato in quattro problematiche. Il primo gruppo, “L’ambiente oltre i confini”, è un confronto sui temi legati allo spazio, alla gente che lo abita, alla natura che lo caratterizza, per oltrepassare i confini geografici, quelli culturali e quelli dovuti alla limitatezza delle risorse. È introdotto da Giuseppe Sancetta, e presenta saggi di Elena Ambrosetti, Angela Paparusso, Maurizio Boccacci Mariani, Alessandra de Rose, Maria Rita Testa. “Guardando al di là del capitalismo” discute i confini disciplinari che l’economia sembra essere incapace di superare e le frontiere geografiche che i commerci hanno da tempo superato. Presentato da Donatella Strangio, raccoglie i saggi di Claudio Cecchi, Antonio Renzi, Giuseppe Sancetta, Beatrice Orlando, Alberto Pastore, Ludovica Cesareo, Luca Scialanga. “Oltre i confini dell’Europa” sollecita il superamento di una delle più complesse frontiere da demolire per rafforzare il concetto stesso di Europa. Sono qui stati chiamati al confronto linguisti, geografi e giuristi. Introdotto da Giorgio Milanetti, include i contributi di Rita Salvi, Janet Bowker, Adriana Conti Pourger, Renato Federici. No full textLa trattazione della ricostruzione storico-economica di Latina e Farroupilha parte dal processo migratorio, che è alla base della nascita di entrambi i territori e dal quale non si può prescindere per comprenderli appieno.Il processo di migrazione ha rivestito un ruolo fondamentale dal quale non si può prescindere se si vogliono comprendere appieno i due territori. Esso è stato affrontato in generale, attraverso il caso italiano e brasiliano, e nello specifico, esaminando quello dei due contesti provinciali. Senza ridurre la trattazione della storia dell’emigrazione ad una sociologia atemporale dell’emigrato, sradicato dal suo contesto nativo, ci si è sforzati di restituire voce ai tanti gruppi sociali che in tanti hanno animato quell’esodo massiccio e che hanno rappresentato un prezioso elemento di sviluppo.
Sono state poi esaminate le economie dei territori della provincia di Latina e del municipio di Farroupilha, i loro punti di forza e di debolezza, contestualizzandoli nel contesto nazionale ed internazionale, al fine anche di indirizzare futuri progetti di collaborazione, che saranno verranno intrapresi e consolidati mediante l’accordo di gemellaggio, verso settori ritenuti strategici, indirizzati in
