Herein I report two strategies for the preparation of transition metal-SCNPs. First, we developed a noncovalently cross-linked amphiphilic polymer with covalently attached catalyst that allows substrate binding for higher catalytic activity. Next, I developed a modular approach in which a noncovalently cross-linked SCNP formed from the folding of an amphiphilic polymer selectively binds catalyst “cofactors” and substrates to increase their proximity and resultant catalytic activity. The polymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization and post-polymerization functionalization with amines and characterized by NMR, GPC, and DLS. Fluorescence studies demonstrated the SCNP’s ability to increase the catalytic activity of a Cu-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition reaction and the Ru-catalyzed cleavage of allylcarbamate groups compared to the free catalysts. A small library of Cu and Ru catalysts with different alkyl chain lengths, functional groups, and charges was used to develop a structure-activity relationship. Ligand binding to the SCNP was identified and characterized by NOESY and STD NMR experiments. These results demonstrate the potential of this plug-and-play strategy for obtaining functional transition metal-SCNPs. We also utilized polymers for ketal-based cross-linked polyamide microcapsules. Under acidic conditions, the microcapsules degrade and release anticorrosion active agents. They were embedded in commercially available coatings to obtain self-protecting coatings

Gampong Mee Panyang Busu is one of the gampongs in the Mutiara sub-district, Kab. Pidie. So in this study, the author will explore the mechanism of the Keusyik (Village Head) of Gampong Mee Panyang Busu in building strength and empowering Gampong organizations, thus improving the welfare of the community. The focus of the case study is in Gampong Mee Panyang Busu, Mutiara District, Pidie Regency, Aceh Province. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method. In which the author attempts to describe the strength and empowerment of Gampong organizations in advancing the nation and improving the welfare of the people of Gampong Mee Panyang Busu, Mutiara District, Pidie Regency, Aceh Province. The results found the following points: namely by maximizing the duties and functions of Gampong apparatus/equipment by delegating tasks to each position, preparing superior Gampong empowerment programs, and realizing each activity program that has been mutually agreed upon

Modular and reconfigurable transient modeling and simulation design support tool for MEE/MEA power systems

    No full text
There is a well-recognised need for robust simulation tools to support the design and evaluation of future More-Electric Engine and Aircraft (MEE/MEA) design concepts. Design options for these systems are increasingly complex, and normally include multiple power electronics converter topologies and machine drive units. In order to identify the most promising set of system configurations, a large number of technology variants need to be rapidly evaluated. This paper will describe a method of MEE/MEA system design with the use of a newly developed transient modeling, simulation and testing tool aimed at accelerating the identification process of optimal components, testing novel technologies and finding key solutions at an early development stage. The developed tool is a Matlab/Simulink library consisting of functional sub-system units, which can be rapidly integrated to build complex system architecture models

Correlates of smoking behavior among older adolescents:

    No full text
This study developed and tested theory to gain a better understanding of smoking behavior among older adolescents. This correlational study empirically tested theoretical relationships postulated between the dependent variable, smoking behavior and each of the independent variables of (a) depression, (b) social support and (c) smoking resistance self efficacy. This study also tested the relationship of smoking resistance self efficacy and (a) social support and (b) depression. In addition, this study examined two mediational models, which tested the role of smoking resistance self efficacy as a mediator in the relationship of (a) social support and smoking behavior, and (b) depression and smoking behavior. A convenience sample of 364 college students 18-21 years of age was recruited from a large urban public college in the South Eastern region of New York State. Volunteers completed the study instrument which consisted of a demographic data sheet and three standardized instruments. There were statistically significant negative relationships between smoking resistance self efficacy and (a) smoking behavior, and (b) depression. There was a statistically significant positive relationship between depression and smoking behavior. Additionally, smoking resistance self efficacy was a mediator of the relationship between depression and smoking behavior. The study did not provide evidence of a statistically significant relationship between (a) smoking behavior and social support and (b) smoking resistance self efficacy and social support. Smoking resistance self efficacy failed to act as a mediator of the relationship between social support and smoking behavior. In summary, this study contributes to theory based nursing research in determining the role of SSE as (1) a mediator of the relationship between smoking behavior and depression, and (2) a strong correlate of smoking behavior. Through the explication of SSE as mediator of the relationship between depression and smoking behavior, this study invites further nursing research, specifically those employing interventions designed to enhance SSE. The findings of this study have implications for nursing interventions targeted to both current smokers and smoking initiation prevention. In addition, this research identifies a need for further theory-driven study of the relationship of depression and smoking behavior among adolescents.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 105-115)by Susan Me
