No full texturvey of corpora used in crosslinguistic studies and the uses to which such corpora can be put by CL and TS specialists, Granger also tries to remedy the problem of different labels by presenting a system common to both disciplines. Furthermore, 172 Granger recognizes limitations of corpus-based approaches, e.g. the lack of suitable corpora and/or the difficulty of (semi-)automatic retrieval: owing to these limitations, she claims that "[w]hat matters is the use of solid empirical data, whether electronic or not" (p. 23). While this is certainly true, it might be added that, even in cases where manual retrieval of data proves necessary, there are still advantages to using electronic, publicly available standard corpora, as this increases the comparability and replicability of studies. Granger highlights the need for better software tools, the potential importance of multilingual corpora to teaching, and the advantages of more cross-disciplinary co-operation.
