The big dream and archeo-geo-neuro-pharmaco-parapsychological theories
Ecology, Cosmos, and Consciousness is a pioneering work that attempts to shift current paradigms. Its editor and lead author, Mark A. Schroll, incisively identifies the problems humanity faces as a result of philosophies, sciences, and religious movements that ignore the importance of an earth-based focus of humanistic and transpersonal inquiry...The result is a transpersonal, post-modern, systems-oriented approach to cultural theory that is both provocative and well-argued, both visionary and practical, both scholarly and whimsical
Analysis of the storage, dispensing, and transfer of flammable and combustible liquid flavorings at the City Brewing Company, LLC
Plan BThe significance of this study evolves from the potential hazards associated with the storage, dispensing, and transfer of flammable and combustible liquids. These materials are used to some extent in nearly all facilities for many different purposes. The hazards associated with flammable and combustible liquids include, at a minimum, fire and explosion. Over 21 percent of industrial fires, which result in an extensive amount of loss, injuries, and fatalities every year, start with ignition of a flammable or combustible liquid. As part of their business operations, the City Brewing Company, LLC is required to store, dispense, transfer, and handle significant amounts and variations of flammable and combustible liquids. The purpose of this study was to analyze the practices currently utilized by the City Brewing Company, LLC in relation to the storage, dispensing, and transfer of flammable and combustible liquid flavorings used in their operations. In order to analyze these practices, the objectives that served as the basis for this study involved identifying all flammable and combustible liquid flavorings, and their hazard classification, storage requirements, quantity stored, container size and construction, as well as the quantity of each used. Furthermore, the current practices for the storage, dispensing, and/or transfer of flammable and combustible liquid flavorings that pose significant risk to personnel or the facility were identified. The identification was accomplished by analyzing and comparing the current practices for the storage, dispensing, and transfer of these materials to the applicable federal codes and regulations for flammable and combustible liquids. Upon completion of the analysis, recommendations were proposed regarding the practices utilized for the storage, dispensing, and transfer of flammable and combustible liquids. The objective of the proposed recommendations, based upon federal codes and regulations as well as recognized industry and risk control principles, was to reduce or eliminate the risks to personnel or the facility posed by the flammable and combustible liquid flavorings used in operations at the City Brewing Company, LLC

Women's Participation in Community Fisheries Committees in Cambodia
In a context of widespread poverty and pressure on natural resources, the Cambodian government has launched community management of the fisheries resource. In a generally male dominated political and socio-cultural sphere in Cambodia, few women partake in the local management of the fisheries resources. Through empirical investigations carried out in the Tonle Sap region, women’s participation in Community Fisheries Committees (CFCs) is examined. This is done with regard to the development potential of their participation, as well as the likely future participation of women in CFCs. The investigations reveal that women’s participation strengthens and improves the work of the CFCs in the areas of participation, communication, awareness, good governance and enforcement. In addition women address social issues, including immediate livelihood needs of the poor. These contributions show significant consistency with areas found important in relation to achieving the objectives of the Sub-Decree of Community Fisheries Management. Despite the emergence of a political framework, formally ensuring women equal right to participate, in practice things change slowly. Women are strongly underrepresented in CFCs, and therefore their strengths and skills, in relation to the above mentioned areas of management, are only sporadically applied. Explanations for this by and large relate to cultural and traditional patterns, which are generally found to be in-conducive to women’s participation in the political landscape. However, women’s participation in politics is on the rise, with still more women being elected at commune council elections, as well as at village level CFC elections. As a consequence of women’s participation in CFCs, villagers’ perception of their ability to carry out work in the committees is changing, as they witness that women can contribute significantly. It is the firm belief of the author that in general the participating women will continue to contribute favourably, thereby changing the perceptions among men and women further, towards acceptance of women in public decision-making. This will make it more difficult for existing power structures to ignore the development potential of women’s participation. However, it can be expected that CFs will develop at an uneven pace, because the personal integrity of the men and women who participate in each separate CFC is very important, as is the general power structure in the single village and in the surrounding area.In a context of widespread poverty and pressure on natural resources, the Cambodian government has launched community management of the fisheries resource. Particle image velocimetry of highly luminescent, pressurized combustion flows of aero engine combustors
This contribution describes recent efforts leading toward the successful application of particle image velocimetry (PIV) in highly luminescent flames avoiding saturation of the second frame of commonly available double shutter PIV cameras, which is usually inevitable when using their interline-transfer CCD sensors. Information on fuel placement, reaction zone and temperature field among other quantities can be provided by frequently used spectroscopic techniques. The velocity information is of equal importance in providing insight into the convective transport of reactants and their products. This flow field data can be achieved by PIV using a dual sensor camera setup splitting the optical path with a beamsplitter cube. By exposing each sensor separately in the sub-microsecond range saturation due to flame luminosity can be sufficiently reduced to allow reliable measurement in pressurized combustion
Algebras and Representation Theory
In this paper we introduce new affine algebraic varieties whose points correspond to associative algebras. We show that the algebras within a variety share many important homological properties. In particular, any two algebras in the same variety have the same dimension. The cases of finite dimensional algebras as well as that of graded algebras arise as subvarieties of the varieties we define. As an application we show that for algebras of global dimension two over the complex numbers, any algebra in the variety continuously deforms to a monomial algebra.EPSRCEngineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) [EP/P016294/1]; LMS scheme 4 grantThe first and third author were partially supported by an LMS scheme 4 grant.
