Supporting disabled children and their families in Scotland: A review of policy and research
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has been supporting research about disabled children and their families for a number of years. An earlier Foundations covering the messages from these projects has already been published (1). This Foundations places the messages from that work into the Scottish context. It gives an overview of current policies affecting disabled children and their families in Scotland and draws on research carried out north of the border

Development and commissioning of the T6 Stalker Tunnel
The T6 Stalker Tunnel is a multi-mode, high-enthalpy, transient ground test facility. It is the first of its type in the UK. The facility combines the original free-piston driver from the T3 Shock Tunnel with modified barrels from the Oxford Gun Tunnel. Depending on test requirements, it can operate as a shock tube, reflected shock tunnel or expansion tube. Commissioning tests of the free-piston driver are discussed, including the development of four baseline driver conditions using piston masses of either 36 kg or 89 kg. Experimental data are presented for each operating mode, with comparison made to numerical simulations. In general, high-quality test flows are observed. The calculated enthalpy range of the experimental conditions achieved varies from 2.7 MJ kg−1 to 115.0 MJ kg−1
Figure 1 in Mammals with a long diastema typically also have dominant masseter and pterygoid muscles
Figure 1. The distances from the jaw joint to the third molar (Jm) and the length of the tooth row (mi) are both projected onto lines that are perpendicular to the arrow that represents the resultant vector of jaw muscle force. The ratio of P to A is 3: 7.Published as part of Greaves, Walter Stalker, 2008, Mammals with a long diastema typically also have dominant masseter and pterygoid muscles, pp. 625-629 in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 153 (3) on page 626, DOI: 10.1111/j.1096-3642.2007.00278.x, http://zenodo.org/record/544247

Researching the lives of disabled children and young people
Why a Special Issue of Children & Society dedicated to disabled children and young people? The simple answer to that question is ‘because disabled children are children first and foremost’. The vast majority of disabled children and young people in the western world live at home with their families, most attending mainstream schools, and disabled children and young people worldwide have rights to inclusion and equal treatment enshrined in national legislation and international conventions. Yet they often remain left out – from generic children’s research, from policy-making about children’s services and, in their everyday lives, from inclusion in friendship groups and social and sporting activities
