No full textPeter Frederik Suhm was a historian and independent author in Denmark-Norway in the latter half of the eighteenth century. Mostly known for his extensive work as an author of historical works and fictions, he also developed a less known political doctrine through the 1760–70s, developing radical enlightenment ideas. These ideas culminated around the Danish Press Freedom Period 1770–3 and involved ideas such as freedom of speech and religion, rule of law, constitutional monarchy, an elected parliament, separation of powers, etc. — much of which were not or only partially published at the time. This paper investigates Suhm’s radical political philosophy.</p

Ein erheblicher Anteil der Parteimitglieder in Deutschland entfällt auf Klein(st)parteien. So stellt die Gruppe der Klein(st)parteien summiert die drittmeisten Parteimitglieder in Deutschland. In Anbetracht einer wachsenden Anzahl und eines zunehmenden Stimmenanteils von Klein(st)parteien ist von einer steigenden Relevanz ihrer Mitgliedschaft auszugehen. Über diese große Gruppe ist, trotz vieler Untersuchungen von Parteimitgliedern im Allgemeinen, bisher sehr wenig bekannt. Dieser Beitrag ermittelt mit Schwerpunkt auf dem General-Incentives-Modell die Motivationen für den „Gang in den Schatten der Macht“. Mittels Rückgriff auf Daten der Deutschen Parteimitgliederstudie 2009 wird gezeigt, dass die Mitgliedschaft in einer Klein(st)partei vor allem durch die Unzufriedenheit mit politischen Akteuren und dem System insgesamt sowie aus ideologischer Motivation gespeist wird. Klein(st)parteimitglieder sind ferner aktiver in ihrer Partei, verknüpfen mit ihrer Mitgliedschaft eher die Übernahme von Parteiämtern und ziehen eine größere Befriedigung aus ihrer Mitgliedschaft.Abstract A considerable proportion of party members in Germany belong to small and marginal parties. Thus, the group of small and marginal parties is in third place when it comes to party members in Germany. In view of the growing number and share of votes of small and marginal parties, it can be assumed that their membership is becoming increasingly relevant. Little is known about this large group, despite many studies centering on party members in general. This paper focuses on the general incentives model to determine the motivations for “going into the shadow of power.” Using data from the German Party Membership Study of 2009, it is shown that membership in a small or marginal party is mainly driven by dissatisfaction with political actors and the political system and by ideological motivation. Members of small and marginal parties are also more active in their party, tend to associate their membership with the assumption of a party office, and derive greater satisfaction from their membership.Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (1018
Contextual equivalence in lambda-calculi extended with letrec and with a parametric polymorphic type system
No full textThis paper describes a method to treat contextual equivalence in polymorphically typed lambda-calculi, and also how to transfer equivalences from the untyped versions of lambda-calculi to their typed variant, where our specific calculus has letrec, recursive types and is nondeterministic. An addition of a type label to every subexpression is all that is needed, together with some natural constraints for the consistency of the type labels and well-scopedness of expressions. One result is that an elementary but typed notion of program transformation is obtained and that untyped contextual equivalences also hold in the typed calculus as long as the expressions are well-typed. In order to have a nice interaction between reduction and typing, some reduction rules have to be accompanied with a type modification by generalizing or instantiating types

No full textOp deze sterrenkaart gaf de nog jonge Leidse sterrenkundige Frederik Kaiser (1808-1872) de hemelstrook aan, waarbinnen de komeet van Halley (officiële benaming 1P/Halley) bij zijn voorspelde terugkeer in 1835 te zien zou zijn. Alhoewel de vorm en de oriëntatie van de baan van deze beroemde komeet - dankzij waarnemingen van eerdere verschijningen - met grote zekerheid vaststonden, was niet goed bekend wanneer deze zijn dichtste punt bij de zon (perihelium) zouden bereiken. Kaiser berekende daarom drie mogelijke banen, uitgaande van een periheliumdoorgang op 7, 15 of 23 november 1835. De meest waarschijnlijke baan (periheliumdoorgang op 15 november) tekende Kaiser met een doorgetrokken lijn in op de kaart; de twee andere mogelijke banen werden aangegeven met een stippellijn of een onderbroken lijn. Kaisers voorspelling bleek zeer juist geweest de zijn. De waargenomen periheliumdoorgang vond plaats op 16 november 1835 en de komeet volgde met grote nauwkeurigheid de door Kaiser voorspelde baan. Naast de traditionele sterrenbeelden worden op deze sterrenkaart ook nog enkele genoemd (zoals de Berg Maenalus, de Boekdrukkerij, het Muur Quadrant en de Telescoop van Herschel), die nu niet meer worden gebruikt. In navolging van andere sterrenkaarten uit het begin van de 19de eeuw werden de figuren van de sterrenbeelden niet meer ingetekend, omdat zij het vinden van de sterren zelf hinderden. Sinds de verschijning van 1835 is deze beroemde komeet nog twee keer teruggekeerd (periheliumdoorgangen waren er op 20 april 1910 en op 9 februari 1986). No full textSupramolecular chemistry puts emphasis on molecular assemblies held together by non-covalent bonds. As such, it is very close in spirit to colloid science which also focuses on objects which are small, but beyond the molecular scale, and for which other forces than covalent bonds are crucial. We discuss in this review the preparation and properties of new colloidal systems which borrow on the one hand from classical topics in colloid science, such as micellization, and on the other hand from concepts in supramolecular chemistry, such as reversible supramolecular polymers
