Mycoblastus marginatus, a new synonym for M-affinis (Mycoblastaceae, lichenized Ascomycota)

    No full text
Mycoblastus marginatus was described in 1937 from a single specimen collected in southern Alaska and has not been reported since. The type material agrees morphologically and chemically with the widespread Mycoblastus affinis. We consider M. marginatus to be a synonym of the latter

Lecidea rubrocastanea, a new lichen species from conifer bark and wood in interior western North America (Lecanorales, lichenized ascomycetes)

    No full text
Lecidea rubrocastanea T. Sprib. & Printzen is described as new from conifer bark and wood in montane valleys of inland British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington State. It is characterized by its combination of a crustose olivaceous thallus lacking secondary lichen substances, small, dark burgundy-red or maroon apothecia, dark-capped paraphyses, Lecidella-type ascus, small, thin-walled ascospores, and bacilliform conidia. The generic affinities of the species based on analysis of ITS DNA are unclear, but it has numerous morphological traits in common with Fapewia

New records and range extensions in the North American lignicolous lichen flora

    No full text
Based on recent intensive studies of wood-dwelling lichens especially in western North America, we report a series of new records and range extensions. Six species are reported as new to North America: Arthonia ligniariella, Elixia flexella, Gyalideopsis helvetica, Lecidea scabridula, Lecidea symmictella and Xyloschistes platytropa. Chaenothecopsis nigra is again confirmed for North America. Buellia arborea, B. chloroleuca, Catillaria erysiboides, and Lignoscripta atroalba are new to Canada and Lecidea pullata and Xylographa trunciseda are new to eastern North America. We also provide range extensions for all four species of Pycnora known from North America. in all we include new records from Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, Colorado, Idaho, Manitoba, Montana, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Numavut, Ontario, Quebec, Washington and the Yukon

Bellemerella ritae sp nov (Verrucariaceae), a new lichenicolous ascomycete from northwest North America

    No full text
Bellemerella ritae Perez-Ortega & T.Sprib. is described as a new lichenicolous ascomycete (Verrucariaceae, Verrucariales) growing on Xylographa in northwest North America. The species is characterized by the size of its ascospores and ascomata. Comparisons with previously described species in the genus are made. A key to all known species of Bellemerella is provided

Three new species of Lichenopeltella (Microthyriaceae, Ascomycota) from northwest North America

    No full text
Three new species of Lichenopeltella are described based on recent floristic work on lichens and lichenicolous fungi in the Pacific Northwest, bringing the total number of species recognized in North America to six. All three newly described species grow on epiphytic crustose lichens: Lichenopeltella biatorae grows on Biatora flavopunctata (British Columbia, Washington), L. arctomiae on Arctomia delicatula (Montana), and L. leprosulae on Myochroidea leprosula (British Columbia). The new species are compared with the morphologically most similar species of the genus, and a key to all known species of Lichenopeltella in North America is provided

Candelariella boleana, a new epiphytic species from southern and central Europe (Candelariaceae, Ascomycota)

    No full text
The new species Candelariella boleana is described from Europe (Greece, Slovakia, and Spain). It is characterized especially by its sphaerical ascospores in polyspored asci

Myochroidea, a new genus of corticolous, crustose lichens to accommodate the Lecidea leprosula group

    No full text
The new lichen genus Myochroidea is described to accommodate four species of the Lecidea leprosula group. Myochroidea is characterized by a crustose, areolate, minutely crenate to almost coralloid or indistinct, grey-brown to olive-brown thallus, reddish brown apothecia with an often persistent margin, moderately branched and anastomosing paraphyses with often swollen, pigmented apical cells, asci of the Micarea-type, and colourless, one-celled, fusiform to broadly ellipsoid ascospores. The new combinations Myochroidea leprosula (Arnold) Printzen, T. Sprib. & Tonsberg comb. nov., M. porphyrospoda (Anzi) Printzen, T. Sprib. & Tonsberg comb. nov., M. rufofusca (Anzi) Printzen, T. Sprib. & Tonsberg comb. nov. and the new species M. minutula Printzen, T. Sprib. & Tonsberg are published. Lecidea porphyroplaca Hinteregger & Poelt is a synonym of M. rufofusca. Descriptions of the four species and an identification key are provided. Myochroidea leprosula and M. rufofusca are reported as new to North America
