No full textUno dei passaggi più importanti delle tragedie sofoclee è sicuramente rappresentato dal primo stasimo della sua Antigone. In questo contributo esaminerò due diverse interpretazioni di questo locus classicus: da una parte la lettura offerta da Rodolfo Mondolfo, secondo cui quei versi contengono una sorta di positivo e 'ottimistico' inno al poter creativo degli esseri umani, mentre dall'altra l'uso che ne fa Hans Jonas come la migliore introduzione sia alla sua valutazione negativa di qualsiasi ruolo eccessivo attribuito alle capacità tecnologohce dell'uomo sia allla sua proposta di un concetto nuovo e più ampio di responsabilità.One of the most intriguing passages of Sophocles’ tragedies is surely
represented by the first stasimon of his Antigone. In this paper I shall examine two different interpretations of this locus classicus: on the one side, the reading offered by Rodolfo Mondolfo, according to which those verses contain a sort of positive and ‘optimistic’ hymn to the creative power of human beings, while on the other Hans Jonas’ use of them as the best introduction both to his negative evaluation of any excessive role attributed to men’s technological capacities and

No full textThe goal of this paper is characterized by a new philosophical attention towards a very important question: the relationship between some dogmatic assumptions about the notions of truth and the practical consequences they can or should have. Based on a careful reading of some crucial passages from Sextus Empiricus’s works (especially Outlines of Pyrrhonism II 80-96 and I 23-4), the paper will analyze the mechanisms – from both a dogmatic point of view and a skeptical one – through which we can act (and react) in response to the multifarious stimuli we receive from the external world as well as the moral interconnections we experience with other human beings
