Detecting Contextomized Quotes in News Headlines by Contrastive Learning
No full textQuotes are critical for establishing credibility in news articles. A direct quote enclosed in quotation marks has a strong visual appeal and is a sign of a reliable citation. Unfortunately, this journalistic practice is not strictly followed, and a quote in the headline is often “contextomized." Such a quote uses words out of context in a way that alters the speaker’s intention so that there is no semantically matching quote in the body text. We present QuoteCSE, a contrastive learning framework that represents the embedding of news quotes based on domain-driven positive and negative samples to identify such an editorial strategy. No full textA System of Systems (SoS) is a large-scale complex system composed of Constituent Systems (CSs) that interact organically to achieve SoS level goals that cannot be achieved by individual CSs. Various uncertainties may arise in SoS in addition to the uncertainties of each CS. Uncertainty in SoS may cause it to fail in various situations. To debug these failures efficiently, a high-quality fault knowledge base is needed for the SoS. However, existing studies assume that (1) there are sufficient data when creating an initial fault knowledge base and that (2) various uncertainties related to the characteristics of the SoS cannot be considered. Therefore, this study proposes an approach to create a fault knowledge base in SoS that considers uncertainty and then determines the quality of fault data so as to build a high-quality fault knowledge base for SoS. The proposed approach categorizes faults based on the nature of uncertainty and the manifestation location, making it possible to find and add fault types that are currently not considered. Through a case study of an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), we followed the process domain experts use to create a fault knowledge base. Extracting and classifying knowledge from more than 9,000 fault data entries revealed that only 7 out of 10 fault types were observed. The proposed approach could successfully find unknown faults that were not in the generated fault knowledge base

This study describes how female characters face and even rebel against gender oppression they experience in the novel Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982. The purpose and focus of this research are to explain the indicators that give rise to gender oppression, describe how gender oppression is, and show why the author raised gender oppression as a topic in the novel Kim Jiyoungs, Born 1982. Researchers use qualitative research with document analysis methods. Regarding gender oppression, this research uses feminist theory. The use of feminist theory is used to describe and show the problems and injustices often experienced by female characters in this novel. This study found two conclusions. First, there are explanations and problems of gender oppression in female characters in Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982. Second, there is a link between the research topic and feminist theory using four principles. The four feminist principles related to gender oppression are women's participation, roles, position, and rights

Novel Kim Jiyoung: Lahir 1982 (82년생 김지영) karya Cho Namjoo merupakan pemantik gerakan feminisme di Korea Selatan yang menceritakan tentang karakter Kim Jiyoung dan perempuan lainnya mengalami diskriminasi gender di tengah budaya patriarki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengupas bagaimana bahasa perempuan yang memiliki karakter tersendiri berdasarkan teori bahasa perempuan yang dipelopori oleh Lakoff (1973) dalam novel Kim Jiyoung: Lahir 1982 (82년생 김지영) karya Cho Namjoo. Selain mengupas karakteristik bahasa perempuan, penelitian ini juga menggunakan teori semantik oleh Leech (1981) untuk memahami makna di balik tuturan perempuan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan menganalisis bahasa perempuan yang muncul dalam tuturan tokoh dan narasi penulis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan intensifier sebagai variasi yang paling banyak muncul untuk menekankan poin yang disebutkan tidak dapat dianggap sepele. Namun, variasi hypercorrect grammar tidak ditemukan karena dialog tokoh perempuan mayoritas dalam situasi informal dan penulis sudah menggunakan bahasa yang baku secara keseluruhan. Makna yang paling dominan adalah makna konseptual yang bertujuan untuk berkata terus terang, sementara itu makna yang tidak muncul adalah makna reflektif karena tidak adanya kosakata khusus yang bisa diartikan dalam ilmu lain. Selain itu, dalam novel ditemukan penggunaan beberapa majas sebagai keunikan bahasa perempuan dalam karya sastra menurut Cixous (1993). Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu memberikan wawasan tentang bahasa perempuan yang berkarakter feminin dan memiliki pendirian, juga bukan sesuatu yang perlu dianggap negatif.
The concept of femininity and masculinity affected the difference between women’s language and men’s language. Cho Namjoo's Kim Jiyoung: Born 1982 (82년생 김지영) is the pioneer of feminist movement in South Korea which depicts the gender discrimination that Kim Jiyoung and other women have to face within the patriarchal culture. This research is conducted to acknowledge the distinctive women’s language based on the theory coined by Lakoff (1973) in Cho Namjoo’s Kim Jiyoung: Born 1982 (82년생 김지영). In addition, this research also interprets the meaning behind women’s language based on Leech’s semantic theory (1981). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the women's language appearing in the dialogue and the author's narrative. The results reveal intensifier as the most commonly used feature to emphasize a point not to be underestimated. However, hypercorrect grammar is absent in the novel since the female characters are mostly engaged in informal situations and the author is using correct grammar in general. The prominent meaning found in the novel is conceptual meaning which used to speak openly, yet reflective meaning is absent as there is no specific vocabulary that can be understood differently from other concepts. In addition, usage of some figures of speech that Cixous (1993) stated as a unique characteristic of women’s language in literature is found in the novel.
