Effect of wearing complete dental prosthesis on candidal count
Background: Infection due to fungi have increased dramatically in recent years and are of prime importance because of the rising number of immunocompromised patients, such as cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, and human immunodeficiency virus infected patients. The aim of the analysis was to compare the candidal count at the time of insertion and after one month of wearing complete dentures.Methods: It was a quasi-experimental study which consisted of forty edentulous patients with no previous denture history. They obtained new complete dentures. Samples were taken using the oral rinse technique and cultured on sabouraud agar for fungal growth and cultured positive samples had undergone for germ tube test in serum media.Results: Candidal colonies were detected and counted as colony forming units at the time of insertion and after one month of wearing complete dentures. Change in candidal count was significantly higher after one month of wearing complete dentures (p=0.0001). Difference in candidal count was significantly higher in females than males.Conclusions: Candidal count was significant after wearing complete dentures and this should be considered as an important factor that can pre-dispose the patients to candida induced denture stomatitis.</jats:p
Identification of Candidal Species from the Oral Cavity of Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Groups
Identification of Candida albicans by using different culture medias and its association in potentially malignant and malignant lesions
Background and Objective: The present study evaluates the association of Candida albicans with normal control group, potentially malignant and malignant lesions of oral cavity by using two different liquid culture media. Materials and Methods: Saliva was collected and biopsy was taken only from those clinically suspected potentially malignant and malignant lesions for histopathological diagnosis. Saliva samples were inoculated for fungal growth in Sabouraud′s dextrose agar and culture-positive samples had undergone for Germ tube test. Germ tube-positive samples were further taken for quantification of chlamydospore production in liquid media at 8 and 16 hours. Results: In normal control groups no fungus growth was found; however, potentially malignant and malignant cases showed fungus growth, positive germ tube test and chlamydospore formation. The result also showed rapid and quantitatively more chlamydospore formation in corn meal broth + 5% milk in comparison to serum milk culture media. Conclusion: The oral mucosa is compromised in potentially malignant lesions, it can be argued that this species may be involved in carcinogenesis by elaborating the nitrosamine compounds which either act directly on oral mucosa or interact with other chemical carcinogens to activate specific proto-oncogenes and thereby initiate oral neoplasia

[[abstract]]The theory of variational inequalities introduced by Stampacchia has emerged as an interesting branch of applied mathematics. This theory is a very effective tool for
studying a wide class of nonlinear problems in a unified and general framework. Several theoretical results are known under a coerciveness property, see for instance, Br´ezis, Browder, Saigal and Mosco. However, the variational formulation of many nonlinear problems leads to noncoercive variational inequalities.

[[abstract]]在本論文中,我們將推廣Sehgal-Morrison的一致性定理,把條件由非空緊緻凸集(nonempty compact convex set)削弱成非循環序集(acyclic set),然後導出幾個一致性定理、固定點定理及Fan的最小最大不等式。並由此得到幾個變分不等式的存在性定理,將Hartman-Stampacchia, Saigal等人的結果做更進一步的推廣。最後,我們在各種不同的單調算子(monotone operator)條件下,分別探討變分不等式解集合的性質。
KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PRACTICE REGARDING EVIDENCE‑BASED DENTISTRY AMONG DENTISTS OF HAZARIBAG, JHARKHAND, INDIA.
Evidence‑based practice helps the health professionals to use the best evidence available to make clinical decisions. The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding Evidence‑based dentistry among dentists of Hazaribag city, Jharkhand, India. A self‑administered, close‑ended, structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The final questionnaire had two parts; Part I had demographic details and Part II had questionnaire proper with 12 close ended questions. Frequencies and percentages of responses were calculated. Pearson?s Chi‑square test was applied for data analysis. Results showed that nearly forty seven percent dentists were aware of Evidence‑based practice. Majority of dentists responded that they did not apply Evidence‑based practice in decision making. In conclusion, knowledge and practice of evidence‑based dentistry is very low among the dentists of Hazaribag city. Majority of dentists have positive attitude towards learning the concepts of evidence‑based practice
Comparison of microwave decalcification with conventional decalcification method by using different decalcifying agents
Background: In routine histopathology, decalcification of teeth is an essential and important step during tissue processing. The present study was attempted to decalcify teeth using microwave method and to compare it with conventional decalcification method. The aim of the study was to compare microwave decalcification with conventional decalcification method with respect to the speed of decalcification, preservation of tissue structure, and efficacy of staining.Methods: In our study, the total sample size used for both routine and microwave decalcification was 30 premolar teeth. The three solutions were diluting nitric acid (5%), formic acid (5%), and EDTA (14%).Results: The results in the present study confirmed the fact that the microwave method using nitric acid was indeed the fastest decalcifying method needing just about 4 days for premolars, compared with routine decalcification. The results also showed that the overall structural details and good staining characteristics were better in teeth decalcified by 5% nitric acid in comparison to EDTA and formic acid in both the methods used. But nitric acid showed good staining details in microwave method in comparison to conventional method.Conclusions: 5% nitric acid by microwave method proved to be the best decalcifying agent as it was fast and gave good structural details and staining characteristics. </jats:p
