The article is dedicated to philosophical and psychological analysis of the concept of Karma yoga at the works of Swami Vivekananda who is supposed to be one of the most outstanding representatives of the Indian spiritual thoughts. The analysis is carried out in the context of classical Indian philosophy. The paper explores the impact of Karma yoga methods on personality development. The author investigates the impact of karma on the character of the individual; he studies the possibility of applying ancient knowledge in order to create a more harmonious models of individual spiritual development in the modern world. In Russian literature, Swami Vivekananda is generally regarded as a philosopher and thinker. The article considers his ideas in the context of the so-called «ancient Indian pedagogics». Ancient Indian one, because the concept of «karma yoga» does not belong to Vivekananda, but is, according to one of the Russian scientists, the cultural heritage of the «creative genius of the Indian people». Vivekananda, being one of the most famous spiritual leaders of India, gave this ancient concept a new, modern sound, relevant to our days. Questions related to the education of the individual, able to make the right spiritual and moral choices, personality, the ability to sacrifice, etc., in a broad sense, can be attributed to the field of pedagogy, understood as an indissoluble unity of education and upbringing.

Presynaptic action potential modulation in a neurological channelopathy

    Get PDF
Channelopathies are disorders caused by inherited mutations of specific ion channels. Neurological channelopathies in particular offer a window into fundamental physiological functions such as action potential modulation, synaptic function and neurotransmitter release. One such channelopathy Episodic Ataxia type 1 (EA1), is caused by a mutation to the gene that encodes for the potassium channel subunit Kv1.1. This channel is predominantly found in presynaptic terminals and EA1 mutations have previously been shown to result in increased neuronal excitability and neurotransmitter release. A possible reason is that presynaptic action potential waveforms are affected in EA1. Thus far, direct electrophysiological recording of presynaptic terminals has been limited to large specialised synapses e.g. mossy fibre boutons, or axonal blebs, unnatural endings of transected axons. This is not representative of the vast majority of small synapses found in the forebrain. Using a novel technique termed Hopping Probe Ion Conductance Microscopy (HPICM) I have been able to directly record action potentials from micrometer sized boutons in hippocampal neuronal culture. I have shown that in a knockout model of Kv1.1 and in a knockin model of the V408A EA1 mutation, presynaptic action potentials are broader than in wild type; however action potentials are unaffected in the cell body. Finally in some central synapses neurotransmitter release has been shown to depend on not only action potentials received in the presynaptic terminal, but also on slow subthreshold membrane potential fluctuations from the soma, termed analogue digital signalling. Kv1 channels have been implicated in partly mediating this form of signalling. I have shown via dual recordings from the soma and small presynaptic boutons, that analogue-digital signalling occurs in wild type and knockout of Kv1.1, but is abolished in the V408A EA1 mutation. This implies that analogue-digital signalling may not depend on Kv1.1 in particular, rather a change in the stoichiometry of the Kv1 channel

Education without character, politics without principles, commerce without morality, Science without humanity, religion without love, culture without unity, administration without justice, knowledge without applications, patriotism without sacrifice are not only useless but positively dangerous so says Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Today’s education in our country has produced more educated person without having in-depth idea of education & mechanised humans without having traits of humanity. It appears that our country is passing through a phase of serious apolitical crisis called value crisis. Everywhere there is a shadow of missing spirit of life as if the true aim of human being is to make wealth effortlessly, swiftly without any hurdle and enjoy a comfortable living standard without adhering to the very basic philosophy of life. Bharat so called India is loosing its cultural supremacy and spiritual diversity in global arena. The paper explores the philosophy of education that was given by Swami Vivekananda. Also it highlights growth and development of school education system of India since Independence and visible loop holes in education system like excessive reliance on recall & memorization process in school education prescribed by British Education system. Further the author advocates vociferously for Revitalizing Teacher Education System , Infusion of Spiritual Element in Curriculum & greater Emphasis on Value Education ,Promotion of Indian Culture , Strong Community Participation in education & integration of Element of Service in Curriculum etc. Deep earnestness, sincerity by stakeholders of education for one of our vital national problem in a new light is the need of the day

    Notebooks Web Application

In our day-to-day activities we often need to make quick short notes related to our work, study, or other activities. Later, those notes should be easy to access, modify, delete, share with others, or create PDF documents as and when required. It is ideal if the note content is rich text format such as HTML, as it provides many text formatting options and provide better view and readability. The Notes are better organized if they are grouped into notebooks where each notebook consists of related topic note pages and multiple users can create such notebooks and share with other users in the application as needed. Only the author of the notebook can edit the page contents and share with selected users. Each user should be able to see a listing of notebooks shared to them and a listing of their own authored notebooks separately. If all the pages in a finished notebook can be grouped together and printed to a PDF, it can then be shared over email or other medium outside of the application too. The above use cases provide the motivation for my project to develop a “Notebooks Web Application” with all the mentioned features

Aims and Objectives: Translation of the Insomnia Severity Index from English to Hindi and Validation of the Hindi version. Materials and Methods: The translation process of the Insomnia Severity Index was initiated after obtaining due permission from the author of the original version of the same. Translation was carried out by using standard translation procedures, such as combined translation, decentering, and pretest method. The final version of the Insomnia Severity Index in Hindi was finally validated. A randomly selected sample size of 65 subjects was enrolled for the purpose of validation and testing the reliability of Hindi version of the Insomnia Severity Index. Insomnia was present in 45 subjects and they constituted the insomnia group. The rest 20 subjects did not have insomnia and were included in the control group. The Hindi version of the Insomnia Severity Index was applied to both the groups. Results: The total sample constituted of 50.8% males and 49.2% females. The mean age in the control group was 30.8±8.3 years and that in the insomnia group was 40.3±4 years (t=3.04; P=0.001). The translated version of the Insomnia Severity Index showed a reliability of 0.91 (Cronbach′s α=0.91). This was not just simple translation, but many of the words were changed to adapt it for the local population. Conclusion: The Hindi version of the Insomnia Severity Index is a valid and reliable tool that can be administered for the assessment of severity of insomnia

New Representations for σ(q)\sigma (q) via Reciprocity Theorems

    No full text
Two new representations for Ramanujan’s function σ(q) are obtained. The proof of the first one uses the three-variable reciprocity theorem due to Soon-Yi Kang and a transformation due to R.P. Agarwal while that of the second uses the four-variable reciprocity theorem due to George Andrews and a generalization of a recent transformation of Andrews, Schultz, Yee, and the second author. The advantage of these representations is that they involve free complex parameters—one in the first representation, and two in the second. In the course of obtaining these results, we arrive at one- and two-variable generalizations of σ(q)

A critical review of Vivekanada's educational thoughts for women education based on Neutrosophic logic

    No full text
Abstract This paper presents a critical review of Vivekananda’s educational thoughts for women education based on neutrosophic logic. Neutrosophic logic originated from neutrosophy, a new branch of philosophy. Neutrosophy studies the origin, nature and scope of neutralities as well as their interactions with different ideational spectra. Neutrosophic logic is the generalization of fuzzy logic and intuitionistic fuzzy logic. According to Neutrosophic logic, a proposition is t% true, f% false and i% indeterminate, where t, f, i are real values from the ranges T, F, I, with no restriction on T, F, I, or the sum n = t + f+ i. Neutrosophic logic is a multiple valued logic that is capable of dealing with inconsistencies and paradoxes. Although Swami Vivekananda did not author a book on education, he reflected valuable thoughts on the subject that are very relevant and viable in the present educational system. Vivekananda clearly depicted the differences between women of India and USA depending on the difference of education. According to his views, women must be put in a position to solve their own problem in their own way. He believed that Indian women are capable of solving their own problems. He suggested that the Indian women must grow and develop in the footprints of Sita so that they would take up the vow of life-long virginity. He opined that Brahmacharinis set up centres for female education. Although he argued strongly for female education, some contradictions and paradoxes are found. These contradictions are critically discussed based on Neutrosophic logic
