    Get PDF
An exponentially nonlinear reduced-order observer for robot manipulators is developed. Velocity estimation of N-link manipulators is performed by integrating only N differential equations. Consequently, computational effort is reduced. Convergence is investigated, and a design criterion is proposed. Simulation results using a two-link manipulator model are presented.Fil: Solsona, Jorge Alberto. Universidad Nacional de la Plata. Facultad de Ingeniería. Departamento de Electrotecnia. Nonlinear Dynamic Average Model of a DC-DC Converter

    Get PDF
A nonlinear dynamical average model of a dc-dc converter is presented. The converter under study has a particular feature. In this converter, classical average analysis cannot be applied because the ripple cannot be neglected in all state variables. For this reason, classical average analysis is not appropriated for obtaining an average model of the studied converter. In order to validate the introduced model, responses obtained by using the proposed average model and the commutated model are compared. The comparison is realized via simulation results.Fil: Busada, Claudio. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Centro Científico Tecnológico Bahía Blanca. State estimation in batch processes using a nonlinear observer

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the problem of nonlinear states estimation in batch chemical processes. It presents a reduced-order nonlinear observer approach to perform the estimation. The proposed method allows adjustment of the speed of convergence towards zero of the estimation error. The stability properties of the model-based observer are analytically treated in order to show the conditions under which exponential convergence can be achieved. In addition, the performance of the proposed observer is evaluated on batch processes.Fil: Biagiola, Silvina Ines. Universidad Nacional del Sur. Get PDF
This study proposes a grid voltage sensorless reduced order generalised integrator-based current controller. The proposal takes advantage of the controller structure to avoid the grid voltage measurement, avoiding the need of additional states and requiring only a few multiply and add operations for its computation. This allows one to keep the controller’s computational burden to a minimum, making it ideal for low cost digital signal processor implemenation.Fil: Gómez Jorge, Sebastián. Nonlinear Control of a Buck Converter Feeding a Constant Power Load

    Get PDF
In this paper a nonlinear control strategy for controlling a dc/dc Buck converter feeding a constant power load is proposed. A feedback controller is combined with a feedforward strategy. A nonlinear reduced order observer is used for estimating the value of the power load and its time derivative. These estimated values are fed forward to the nonlinear feedback controller whose design is based on feedback linearization method. The proposed controller is tested via simulations and also, experimental results are presented.Fil: Solsona, Jorge Alberto. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Frequency-Adaptive Current Controller for Three-Phase Grid-Connected Converters

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes the behavior of a nonfrequencyadaptive reduced-order-generalized-integrator-based current controller when the grid frequency is subject to variations and proposes a simple method for making it frequency adaptive. The proposed frequency adaptation scheme allows to keep the good performance of the current controller even in the presence of frequency variations. The resulting frequency-adaptive controller has very low computational burden, and it is therefore suitable for low-cost digital-signal-processor implementation.Fil: Gómez Jorge, Sebastián. On Speed and Rotor Position Estimation in Permanent-Magnet AC Drives

    Get PDF
This letter deals with rotor position and speed estimation of permanent magnet ac drives. Two reduced-order observers, a linear (AO) and a nonlinear one (NLO), are compared. An adaptive speed estimation scheme is also considered. Analysis and simulations show that the NLO has better performance and demands less computational load than the AO plus the adaptive scheme.Fil: Solsona, Jorge Alberto. Power Oscillation Damping Improvement by adding Multiple Wind Farms to Wide-Area Coordinating Controls

    Get PDF
This paper examines the feasibility of coordinating variable-speed wind farms with other power system devices, such as flexible ac transmission systems and synchronous generators, to damp low-frequency oscillations. For this purpose, an observer-based state-feedback approach is used to build a power oscillation damping (POD) controller, implemented through coordinated actions of multiple control devices, and able to manage several measurement channels. The wide-area POD controller also presents a time-delay compensation stage to mitigate adverse effects of latency involved in wide-area communication systems. Several practical issues are discussed and analyzed, such as measurement and control selection, model order reduction, transmission time-delay compensation, impact of the POD control on wind farms, and robustness aspects. The control performance is evaluated and compared with other control schemes using eigenvalue analyses and nonlinear time-domain simulations over a wide range of operating conditions, for example severe system faults, N-1 outage contingencies, load/generation shedding and line tripping.Fil: Leon, Enrique Andres. Sub-Synchronous Interaction Damping Control for DFIG Wind Turbines

    Get PDF
This paper presents a damping control to mitigate sub-synchronous interactions (SSI) in doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines connected to series-compensated lines. This issue has gained attention due to the recent SSI phenomena reported in DFIG wind farms located near series capacitors. Two approaches which add a supplementary damping control signal are compared: one of them, integrated to the grid-side converter, and the other one, to the rotor-side converter. The SSI damping controls are designed using a multi-input multi-output state-space methodology. This allows to easily tune a high performance controller using several measurements and control inputs. Smalland large-signal stability analyses, robustness aspects, impact of the supplementary controls on the system modes, and influence of different operating conditions on the SSI are also discussed. The obtained results show that the supplementary control is able to properly damp the sub-synchronous oscillations of DFIG wind turbines by updating the existing DFIG control systems without the inclusion of expensive additional damping devices, and reducing the risk of wind generation tripping.Fil: Leon, Enrique Andres. On state estimation in electric drives

    Get PDF
This paper deals with state estimation in electric drives. On one hand a nonlinear observer is designed, whereas on the other hand the speed state is estimated by using the dirty derivative from the position measured. The dirty derivative is an approximate version of the perfect derivative which introduces an estimation error few times analyzed in drive applications. For this reason, our proposal in this work consists in illustrating several aspects on the performance of the dirty derivator in presence of both model uncertainties and noisy measurements. To this end, a case study is introduced. The case study considers rotor speed estimation in a permanent magnet stepper motor, by assuming that rotor position and electrical variables are measured. In addition, this paper presents comments about the connection between dirty derivators and observers, and advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are also remarked.Fil: Leon, Enrique Andres.
