    NANOPARTÍCULAS, APLICAÇÕES E RISCOS ASSOCIADOS OERN - 18Out18 18h O desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico está na base de uma melhoria substancial da qualidade de vida de parte significativa da população mundial. O surgimento de novos materiais e novos produtos têm sido constante ao longo dos tempos e, quando desenvolvidos de forma sustentável, têm contribuído positivamente para esse bem-estar. Contudo, apesar de muitos destes produtos trazerem importantes mais valias, outros, como o amianto e, mais recentemente, os plásticos, levantam dilemas complexos, sendo uma das maiores fontes de poluição no planeta. Os nanomateriais correspondem a uma miríade de produtos e apresentam-se como uma solução efetiva para muitos problemas atuais. No entanto, quais os limites da aplicabilidade (?) e quais as dificuldades que podem gerar no futuro (?), são questões que se devem colocar desde já, no sentido de evitar a repetição de problemas ocorridos ou que estão a ocorrer com outros tipos de produtos.
