Towards convergent offline reinforcement learning
Reinforcement learning (RL) is a leading method for automated sequential decision-making. However, RL is rarely used in the real world. This neglect is due to instability and inefficiency, often even occurring on benchmark problems. Conversely, the sweeping real-world impact of supervised learning (SL) began years ago. Given how much more powerful RL can be than SL, the value of making RL stable and efficient would be immense. Since we know SL is stable and efficient, one candidate for making RL more stable and efficient is to approach RL more like we approach SL. Indeed, RL algorithms with SL-like convergence guarantees already help stability, and RL algorithms designed to learn from offline datasets (static datasets) already help sample efficiency. In this thesis, we find that combining the two performs far better than expected, and we attempt to figure out why. We conclude with ideas for fixing one of the most straightforward convergent RL algorithms.Computer Scienc

The Trombe wall out of equipoise: a missed analysis and communication on the limitations of a sustainable technology
Throughout the 1960s and the 1970s, some European architectural magazines illustrated the Trombe Wall: a solar collector designed by engineer Felix Trombe, integrated into the southern wall of some housing prototypes by Jacques Michel in France. Magazines such as Architectural Design, Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, Technique et Arquitecture, Casabella and Domus, illustrated these examples especially during the years before and after the 1973 oil crisis. However, they mainly focussed on the technological aspects of the innovation and on energy performances. Taking as a reference the concept of Equipoise described by Sigfried Giedion (1948) and re-considered within the sustainability debate by William Braham,1 the technological interventions of sustainable architectural practices entail three limitations. The first underlines that the interventions could affect the health of the people, the second that sustainability is ultimately a social condition and the third regarded the necessity of regular maintenance and renewal. This article aims to highlight the absence of debate about the three cautions in the magazines throughout the 1970s and the consequence of this lack on sustainable and energy-efficient architecture of today.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Theory, Territories & TransitionsSituated Architectur

This checklist does not represent a complete inventory of this locality, but rather serves as a baseline for future research. Taxa are arranged by major groups (i.e., gymnosperms, magnoliids, monocotyledons, and eudicotyledons), then alphabetically by family, genus, and species. Basal angiosperms and pteridophytes were not represented by vouchers, observations, or reports and are therefore not included in the following checklist. Brackets around a taxon indicate that it is unvouchered (i.e., it has been reported by outside agencies or has been observed by the present author, but has not been collected). Status and rank designations are also provided for rare taxa monitored by the NC Natural Heritage Program (Robinson and Finnegan 2014)
ARGUMENTATION ET LIEUX D’INSCRIPTION DES REPRÉSENTATIONS DANS LA FRANCE N’A PAS DIT SON DERNIER MOT D’ÉRIC ZEMMOUR
In this article, an analysis is presented of the essay titled "France Has Not Said Its Last
Word", published in 2021 by Éric Zemmour, known both as a polemicist and now as a politician. This
study aims to examine the argumentative strategies used by the author as well as the representations
that manifest in his discourse. Through linguistic and sociolinguistic approaches, we explore the
potential impact of certain linguistic formulations on a specific audience. The central question
addressed in this work concerns the use of representations from an argumentative perspective, taking
into account the embedding of discourse in a particular socio-political context
