Infrared thulium-doped fluorozirconate fibre lasers
We have investigated the performance of Tm3+-doped fluorozirconate fiber lasers when pumped at approximately 790 nm with a Ti:sapphire laser. This was done to assess which transitions are suitable for diode-pumping in addition to the 3F4 to 3H4 transition near 2.3 µm, as previously reported by Allen and Esterowitz
CW diode-pumped operation of a 1.97µm thulium doped fluorozirconate fibre laser
Operation of a diode-pumped continuous-wave thulium-doped fibre laser on the 3H4 - 3H6 transition at ~1.97µm is reported. The absorbed pump power at threshold for a multimode fibre with 40µm core diameter was measured to be ~20mW
Lasing and amplification in the 0.8µm region in thulium doped fluorozirconate fibres
A thulium doped fluorozirconate fibre laser operating continuous-wave at wavelengths around 810 nm when pumped at 780 nm is reported. A slope efficiency of 15% with respect to incident pump power and a maximum output of 125 mW was achieved. This transition has the potential for laser diode pumping and with the output also being in the AlGaAs diode wavelength range there exist interesting possibilities for extending the versatility of such sources
Thulium-doped fluorozirconate fibre lasers operating at around 0.8µm, 1.47µm, 1.9µm and 2.3µm pumped at 0.79µm
Efficient operation of a Yb-sensitised Er fibre laser pumped in the 0.8 µm region
The dependence of threshold and slope efficiency on pump wavelength around 0.8µm has been investigated for an Yb-sensitised fibre laser. Results confirm a wider choice of pump wavelength compared with unsensitised Er fibre. A 5mW threshold and slope efficiency of 8.5% were observed for 820-830nm pumping
Continuous-wave oscillation of a holmium-doped silica fibre laser
Laser emission at 2.04µm has been observed in a silica fibre doped with Ho3+. When pumped with an argon laser at 457.9 nm an absorbed threshold power of 46mW and a slope efficiency of 1.7% were measured
Thulium doped fluorozirconate fibre lasers
Pumping of thulium-doped fluorozirconate fibre lasers at wavelengths available from semiconductor diodes around 790nm has enabled continuous wave laser operation at 806nm, 1.47µm, 1.97µm and 2.3µm, many of which may occur simultaneously. The performance of these laser transitions, including diode-pumped operation of the 3H4-3H6 transition at 1.97µm, is discussed
Efficient superfluorescent emission at 974nm and 1040nm from a Yb-doped fibre
End-pumping of an Yb-doped single-mode fiber has yielded > 10 mW and 30 mW of broadband superfluorescence at 974 nm and 1040 nm respectively. Slope efficiencies > 40% have been obtained. Pump wavelength dependent linewidths between 2 nm and 19 nm have been observed
Erbium doped fluorozirconate fibre laser operating at 1.66 and 1.72µm
Pulsed laser emission at 1.66 and 1.72µm has been observed in a multimode fluorozirconate fibre doped with erbium under excitation at 514nm. The threshold absorbed pump power for laser oscillation was measured as 90mW
Efficient and tunable operation of a Tm-doped fibre laser
We report on improved performance from a silica based thulium doped fibre laser. Under excitation at 810nm this system has demonstrated a near theoretical maximum slope efficiency of 36% (84% photon conversion efficiency), corresponding to 44mW of laser output power at 1900 nm for 167mW of absorbed power. In addition we have used a birefringent filter to continuously tune the laser over a range of 276nm, from 1780 to 2056nm
