    Discovering the Dynamics of Smart Business Networks

    In an earlier paper ,was discussed the necessary evolution from smart business networks, as based on process need satisfaction and governance, into business genetics [1] based on strategic bonds or decay and opportunistic complementarities. This paper will describe an approach and diffusion algorithms whereby to discover the dynamics of emergent smart business network structures and their performance in view of collaboration patterns over time. Some real life early analyses of dynamics are discussed based on cases and date from the high tech sector. Lessons learnt from such cases are also given on overall smart network dynamics with respect to local interaction strategies, as modelled like in business genetics by individual partner profiles, goals and constraints.     Smart cities: a policy tool for city efficiency?

    The level of interest in smart cities has been growing during these last years. The academic literature (Hollands, 2008; Caragliu et al., 2009, Nijkamp et al., 2011 and Lombardi et al., 2012) has identified a number of factors that characterise a city as smart, such as economic development, business-friendly, environmental sustainability, social innovation, information and knowledge process, and human and social capital. Thus, the smartness concept is strictly linked to urban efficiency in a multifaceted way as well as to citizens’ wellbeing through the use of appropriate technologies. Instead, from a “political perspective” smartness is mainly related to the ability of using ICT as instrument to strengthen economic growth. A research by Giffinger et al. (2007) to support European policy has defined the concept of smart city on the basis of several intangible indicators (such as a smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living, and smart governance) and has become a benchmark for European policy makers (European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, 2014). Following this influential research, the aim of our paper is to verify how much that smartness definition can influence the efficiency and indirectly the growth of the cities. Using the concept of output maximising, we built a stochastic frontier function in terms of urban productivity and/or urban efficiency by assessing the economic distance that separates cities from that frontier. Our conclusions highlight that not all the six indicators defined in the Giffinger et al. (2007)’ analysis contribute to strength the city efficiency

    Low-complexity smart antenna methods for third-generation W-CDMA systems

    There is still an open debate within the research community regarding the likely performance enhancement of smart antennas versus their complexity for commercial wireless applications. The goal of the study presented in this paper is to investigate the performance improvement attainable using relatively simple smart antenna techniques when applied to the third-generation W-CDMA air interface. Methods to achieve this goal include fixed multibeam architectures with different beam selection algorithms (maximum power criterion, combined beams) or adaptive solutions driven by relatively simple direction finding algorithms. After comparing these methods against each other for several representative scenarios, some issues related to the sensitivity of these methods are also studied, (e.g., robustness to environment, mismatches originating from implementation limitations, etc.). Results indicate that overall, conventional beamforming seems to be the best choice in terms of balancing the performance and complexity requirements, in particular when the problem with interfering high-bit-rate W-CDMA users is considere

    Multidisciplinary investigations on the use of TiNb alloy orthopedic device equipped with low profile antenna as smart sensor

    In this paper, a new complex medical device is proposed using TiNb based metallic alloy, acting also as a ground plane for a low profile printed antenna sited on a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. The first step of the research is oriented on the experimental study of the properties of TiNb based alloy and on the development of the orthopedic device. The second step is focalized on the electromagnetic characterization of the implanted printed antennas. The resulting smart orthopedic device incorporating the antenna and when embedded in a body environment is numerically analyzed from communication point of view. In particular, the radiation characteristics, necessary for the calculation of the link budget when the device is used for communication with the external to the body receiver is considered. Such scenario finds its applications in monitoring some vital human functions for example in post chirurgical rehabilitation or other long-term surveys

    Consumer perceptions on smart wearable devices for medical and wellness purposes

    This study examined Smart Wearable Devices (SWDs) in the form of smartwatches, fitness trackers, smart textiles and jewelry for medical and wellness purposes in the IoT era. Forty-five volunteers participated in a semi-structured interview. The data collected from respondents was used to study consumer perceptions of SWDs. Although many of the participants in the study had heard of SWDs, almost none knew what Body Sensor Networks (BSNs) were. An investigation was also conducted to find a solution to the problem of abandoning the use of SWDs. In the results, many respondents stated a 'real need' for the device as the most important feature for not abandoning it. Some of the smartwatches, fitness trackers, smart textiles and jewelry exhibited at CES 2019 - Las Vegas were listed in the text to highlight the advances in the SWD market. In the authors' opinions, very important steps forward have been made with smart jewelry

Opisane je delo z podatki, metode strojnega učenja in izdelava napovednih modelov v programskem jeziku Python. Poudarek je na pridobivanju, manipulaciji in uporabi vhodnih podatkov, ter optimizaciji napovednega modela za dosego boljših odločitev na še ne videnih podatkih. V sklopu magistrske naloge smo izdelali programsko opremo algoritmične narave, ki uporablja sožitje pogojev, ki jih trgovalni instrument mora zadovoljiti, ter odločitve dveh napovednih modelov za odpiranje ali zapiranje trgovalnih pozicij.This master\u27s thesis describes the topic of automated trading with the use of an algorithmic approach based on decisions made by smart prediction models. The models possess the knowledge derived from machine learning techniques. We describe the used data set and techniques used for machine learning and implementation of a smart prediction model using the Python programming language. The emphasis is on the gathering, transformation and usage of input data as well as on the optimization of the prediction model to get the best results possible from new data sets. The product of the thesis is a software based on the algorithm that requires that certain market place conditions are met with a conjunction of smart model predictions to open or close the trading position

    Zechariah 9-14 as the substructure of 1 Peter’s eschatological program

    The principal aim of this study is to discern what has shaped the author of 1 Peter to regard Christian suffering as a necessary (1.6) and to-be-expected (4.12) component of faithful allegiance to Jesus Christ. Most research regarding suffering in 1 Peter has limited the scope of inquiry to two particular aspects—its cause and nature, and the strategies that the author of 1 Peter employs in order to enable his addressees to respond in faithfulness. There remains, however, the need for a comprehensive explanation for the source that has generated 1 Peter’s theology of Christian suffering. If Jesus truly is the Christ, God’s chosen redemptive agent who has come to restore God’s people, then how can it be that Christian suffering is a necessary part of discipleship after his coming, death and resurrection? What led the author of 1 Peter to such a startling conclusion, which seems to runs against the grain of the eschatological hopes and expectations of Jewish restoration ideology? This thesis analyzes the appropriation of shepherd and fiery trials imagery, and argues that the author of 1 Peter is dependent upon Zechariah 9-14 for his theology of Christian suffering. Said in another way, the eschatological program of Zechariah 9-14, read through the lens of the Gospel, functions as the substructure for 1 Peter’s eschatology and thus its theology of Christian suffering. In support of this hypothesis, this study highlights the fact that Zechariah 9- 14 was available and appropriated in early Christianity, in particular in the Passion Narrative tradition; that the shepherd imagery of 1 Pet 2.25 is best understood within the milieu of the Passion Narrative tradition, and that it alludes to the eschatological program of Zechariah 9-14; that the fiery trials imagery found in 1 Peter 1.6-7 and 1 Pet 4.12 is distinct from that which we find in Greco-Roman and OT wisdom sources, and that it shares exclusive parallels with some unique features of the eschatological program of Zechariah 9-14; that Zechariah 9-14 offers a more satisfying explanation for the modification of Isa 11.2 in 1 Pet 4.14, the transition from 4.12-19 to 5.1-4, why Peter has oriented his letter with the term διασπορά, and why he has described his addresses as οἶκος τοῦ θεοῦ; and finally that 1 Peter contains an implicit foundational narrative that shares distinct parallels with the eschatological program of Zechariah 9-14. We can conclude that 1 Peter offers a unique vista into the way in which at least one early Christian witness came to understand and to communicate the fact that Christian suffering was a necessary feature of faithful allegiance to Jesus Christ

    Spatial channel characterization for smart antenna solutions in FDD wireless networks

    This paper introduces a novel metric for determining the spatial decorrelation between the up- and down-link wireless bearers in frequency division duplex (FDD) networks. This metric has direct relevance to smart or adaptive antenna array base-station deployments in cellular networks, which are known to offer capacity enhancement when compared to fixed coverage solutions. In particular, the results presented were obtained from field trial measurement campaigns for both urban and rural scenarios, with the observations having a direct impact on the choice of down-link beamforming architecture in FDD applications. Further, it is shown that significant spatial decorrelation can occur in urban deployments for bearer separations as small as 5 MHz. Results are presented in terms of both instantaneous characteristics as well as time averaged estimates, thus facilitating the appraisal of smart antenna solutions in both packet and circuit switched network
