Chirality-Selective Photoluminescence Enhancement of ssDNA-Wrapped Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Modified with Gold Nanoparticles
No full textIn this work, a convenient method to enhance the photoluminescence (PL) of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in aqueous solutions is provided. Dispersing by single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and modifying with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), about tenfold PL enhancement of the SWNTs is observed. More importantly, the selective PL enhancement is achieved for some particular chiralities of interest over all other chiralities, by using certain specific ssDNA sequences that are reported to recognize these particular chiralities. By forming AuNP-DNA-SWNT nanohybrids, ssDNA serves as superior molecular spacers that on one hand protect SWNT from direct contacting with AuNP and causing PL quench, and on the other hand attract the AuNP in close proximity to the SWNT to enhance its PL. No full textBuilding complex SPMD code in an ecient and portable way is nowadays a challenge, especially when there is no uniformity of tools and libraries across platforms. The Fast Messages (FM) and the Portability Library (PL) where both designed to provide the basis of an abstract enough framework for C, so that problems can be coded and ported to any supported platform with no more than a few changes in the makeles and a recompilation. The FM library provides a message passing communications library built around the Berkeley Active Messages library. The PL library provides the primitives for host to node communication for problem initialization and results collection, as well as other miscellaneous and potentially non-portable primitives. Investigating the spatial distribution of soil erosion and deposition in a small catchment
No full textAn understanding of the spatial distribution of soil erosion and deposition in a catchment. is important for designing soil and water conservation measures. Traditional monitoring techniques provide limited information on the spatial patterns of erosion and deposition. The fallout radionuclide Cs-137 was used to document rates and patterns of soil redistribution within a small (0.17 km(2)) gully catchment located near An'sai in Shaanxi Province, representative of the Loess Plateau of China. The local reference inventory was estimated to be 2266 Bq m(-2) and the (CS)-C-137 inventories of 198 soil cores collected from the catchment, ranged from 0 to 3849 Bq m(-2). The coefficient of variation of the inventories of the individual cores was 0.85, reflecting the complex pattern of 137Cs redistribution by soil erosion and deposition. Estimates of erosion rates derived from Cs-137 measurement ranged from less than 25 to 150 Mg ha(-1) year(-1), with about 70% of the net soil loss from the catchment coming from the gully area. The 137CS technique was shown to provide an effective means of documenting the spatial distribution of soil erosion and deposition within the small catchment. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
