Domesticity and Sacredness in Synagogue Architecture. The Oratory and Temple in Carpi (1722– 1921)

    No full text
The chapter analyses the synagogues in Carpi through the lens of their architectural transformations in time and their position in the city. The architectural features of these places represent the shifting of the meaning of Jewish interpretation of the urban space during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries

Invecchiamento attivo e promozione della salute. Il contributo dell’attività fisica e dell’esperienza motoria. Active aging and health promotion. The contribution of physical activity and motor experience

    No full text

Concentration, firm size, and innovation. Evidence from innovation costs

    No full text
By means of a new technological indicator, i.e. original data on firms' innovation costs (survey CNR-1STAT), the neo-Schumpeterian hypothesis on the positive association between innovative intensity, concentration and firm-size has been tested at the aggregate and at the sectoral level for the Italian manufacturing industry. The advantage of the evidence presented here lies mainly in the comprehensive nature of the indicator used. The data on innovation costs include, in addition to R&D, other relevant innovative sources such as those related to production investment, marketing, design and engineering. This new indicator shows that innovative intensity increases with firm size in sectors with high technological opportunities

A non-perturbative method based on the Form Factor bootstrap approach is proposed for the analysis of correlation functions of 2-D massless integrable theories and applied to the massless flow between the Tricritical and the Critical Ising Models

Prescription of vitamin D among Swiss pediatricians.

    No full text
The traditional recommendation that Swiss children receive vitamin D during the first year of life was recently extended to the second and third year of life and during winter for older children. The aim of the study was to identify how Swiss pediatricians prescribe vitamin D. Between December 2016 and March 2017, 795 (52%) of 1530 invited Swiss board-certified pediatricians answered a closed-ended questionnaire. Respondents routinely prescribe vitamin D supplements in infants ≤ 1 year of age, but infrequently in children ≥ 3 years of age. Only a minority of them prescribe vitamin D in children with conditions that predispose to poor vitamin D status. Oily vitamin D preparations are the most popular and are usually prescribed in a once-a-day regimen. In situations like intake of drugs interfering with vitamin D metabolism, intestinal malabsorption, and diabetes mellitus, Swiss pediatricians often seek the advice of a subspecialist. In cases with clinical suspicion of poor vitamin D status, the diagnosis is confirmed by the determination of 25-hydroxyvitamin D.Conclusion: Few pediatricians prescribe a vitamin D supplementation in children ≥ 3 years of age. Collaboration between policymakers and health care professionals is required to fill the gap between guidelines and clinical practice. What is Known: • In Switzerland, vitamin D supplementation is recommended during the first, second, and third year of life as well as during winter for older children. • Both alcoholic and oily preparations are currently available. What is New: • Swiss pediatricians routinely prescribe vitamin D in infants ≤ 1 year of age, but infrequently in children ≥ 3 years of age. • Oily vitamin D preparations are the most popular and are usually prescribed in a once-a-day regimen

Concentration, firm size, and innovation. Evidence from innovation costs

By means of a new technological indicator, i.e. original data on firms' innovation costs (survey CNR-1STAT), the neo Schumpeterian hypothesis on the positive association between innovative intensity, concentration and firm-size has been tested at the aggregate and at the sectoral level for the Italian manufacturing industry. The advantage of the evidence presented here lies mainly in the comprehensive nature of the indicator used. The data on innovation costs include, in addition to R&D, other relevant innovative sources such as those related to production investment, marketing, design and engineering. The empirical results based on this new indicator confirm the existence of a positive association between firm-size and innovative intensity in sectors with high technological opportunities, and also at the aggregate level. A significant concentration of innovative activities in a restricted group of large Italian firms has also been found
