‘A Strange Change Approaching’: Ontology, Reconciliation And Eschatology In Wuthering Heights
With a focus on Emily Brontë‘s novel in the context of her poetry, Simon Marsden examines ontological identification, reconciliation and notions of community. Marsden suggests that the paradigm of romance is often silently privileged in readings of Wuthering Heights, and that this has significantly shaped critical analysis of the novel’s engagement with religion - resulting in neglect of Christian theology’s concern with the ontological status of the human person and the nature of human flourishing. Marsden’s chapter, with reference to recent theological accounts of human ontology and semiotics (Catherine Pickstock and John Milbank), examines both the refusal of the stranger and patterns of repetition and difference as ways into understanding representations of social fragmentation and the redemptive returns of the second generation. For Marsden, the novel brings into view discourses of agapeic love (distinct from erotic love or simple affection), and forgiveness and the refusal of vengeance. Further exploring Brontë‘s critique of the hypocritical violation of Christian ethics and the refusal of mercy for others in ‘Why ask to know the date - the clime?' and ‘Shed no tears o’er that tomb’, Marsden also considers how Brontë‘s essay ‘Filial Love’ illuminates her interest in the parent/child bond and the animal/human divide

In the 1920s, Marsden became a recluse, devoting herself to writing philosophical works, and in later decades was institutionalized with severe depression. William Brockman</p

Passing Time in West Berlin
My story “Passing Time In West Berlin” is a personal, political and poetic history of my life in West Berlin in 1986, a time when the city was divided by the Berlin wall. It reflects on the uncertainty of the formation of gay identity in mid 1980s Europe, observes the political and cultural divide of the city and examines the formation of friendships and relationships
The anatomy and neurosecretory system of the supraoesophageal ganglion of Hermodice Carunculata (Annelida: Polychaeta).
Hermodice carunculata (Pallas) is an Amphinomid po1ychaete commonly found throughout the Caribbean area (Marsden, 1960). It also occurs in the Gulf of Mexico (Hartman, 1951) and off the coast of southern Florida (Mullin, 1923). The family Amphinomidae includes the first species of annelids to be described from the Western Hemisphere. In the eighteenth century, some West Indian faunal collections were deposited in various museums of western Europe. At that time, a young physician, Peter Simon Pallas, became interested in these collections. [...

Protecting the third pole ::transplanting international law /
This highly topical book considers the important question of how best to protect the environment of the Third Pole - the area comprising the Hindu Kush Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau - using the tool of international law; specifically, international environmental law and the law of international watercourses. Following detailed analysis of weaknesses in current legal protections according to comparative legal theory, Simon Marsden recommends three potential options for implementation by policy and lawmakers. The first option is to transplant existing international law, including conventions from the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the Council of Europe. Secondly, transplantation of a comprehensive international treaty, based upon the Alpine and Carpathian regimes, is suggested. The overwhelmingly European focus of the first two options, and possible contextual constraints to implementation, informs a third option: the development of a new treaty, giving appropriate attention to the Asian context on one hand, and the need for access of information and public participation on the other, to ensure effective implementation and compliance. Taking a comparative, interdisciplinary approach, Protecting the Third Pole will be a key resource for legal and policy scholars. NGO's and practitioners will also benefit from its detailed analysis
