Critical reception of novels by Karel Matěj Čapek-Chod
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to map and analyze the critical reception of Karel Matěj Čapek-Chod's novels V třetím dvoře (1895), Kašpar Lén mstitel (1908) and Turbína (1916), which represent a certain section of the author's work over time. The result should be a comprehensive conception of how individual literary critics (e.g. F. X. Šalda, J. Vodák and others) interpreted the selected works, how they appraised them and in which literary contexts they placed them. In particular, those reflections that put the novels in context with naturalism, or more precisely with the works of European naturalists. Walter Lorenz, M.Sc., Ph.D. Scientific field: Sociology Institution: Charles University Faculty/Department: Faculty of Arts / Sociology Department The presented study offers an alternative perspective on the implementation of systemic social changes based on a systemic approach. The Meaning of Success in the World of Czech Professional Drummers
Matěj Kubíček: The Meaning of Success in the World of Czech Professional Drummers Abstract In this thesis, the author deals with the term "success", aiming to uncover ways in which Czech professional pop music drummers understand it. He also investigates problems connected with it, such as the attributes required to reach the status of a professional drummer, or the link between art, commerce, and skills. His approach consists of comparing relevant literature, which is introduced in the first part of the thesis, with information stemming from research. This research was made in a qualitative method, where the author made interviews with eight professional Czech drummers. The main themes contained in the investigation of the word success are the actual typology of the term, teaching and pedagogy, family life, and the relationship between art and commerce. As far as a professional drummer's attributes are concerned, three most important terms are identified: Diligence, talent, and humbleness

Depiction of Prague in Karel Čapek Chod's works
The thesis depicts Prague in the prose of Karel Matěj Čapek Chod. Its aim is to describe the functioning of individual places and to find possible symbolic meanings. From a methodological point of view, it is based on a naratological approach (forming the space via narration) and a thematic approach (expressing the poetics of the place). The practical part reflects mainly the approach that assumes that places have the ability to have a certain memory and to bear symbolic meanings, thus not forgetting literary and culturally historical context. The interpretation work takes these aspects into account and applies them when determining the function of the places described. It tries to articulate the meaning of the place or its surroundings chosen by the author. It captures how this place affects the functioning of the characters and how it behaves within the story
Symbolic Boundaries constructed by a a Group of Stagehands
Matěj Kubíček - Symbolic boundaries constructed by a group of stgehands Abstract The author analyzes the way a group of stagehands (manual workers in the preparation of cultural events) construct symbolic and social boundaries within and especially outside group, ie to other participants in the preparation and conduct of these events. Theoretical background of the thesis is the concept of symbolic and social boundaries by Michele Lamont and Virag Molnar and the theory of moral boundaries by Andrew Sayer. Sayer's theory says that the moral boundaries of groups or societies are formed on the basis of the values shared by these groups and the moral condemnation of other groups or companies due to non-recognition of these values. Author's field work confirms that this strategy of the creation of borders is present and shows the specific values it is based on. He finds that stagehands construct symbolic boundaries that are parallel to the formal boundaries, only with opposite direction of superiority
