Reply to Simion
Mona Simion questions whether there is a distinction between taking back an assertion and taking back only the content of an assertion, as I have claimed. After arguing against the distinction in question, Simion grants that there is a difference between the cases that I use to illustrate the distinction, and thus turns to the task of explaining the difference in a way that keeps it from undermining the knowledge norm. The explanation she offers is in terms of a distinction between doing something that is wrong and doing something that is blameworthy. I respond here by defending the distinction and questioning the explanation she gives of it

Some generalizations of a simion-schmidt bijection
In 1985 Simion and Schmidt gave a constructive bijection 4 from the set of all length
(n — 1) binary strings having no two consecutive is to the set of all length n permutations
avoiding all patterns in {123, 132,213).
In this paper we generalize 4 to an inject ive function from {O, i}n_1 to the set S, of all
length n permutations and derive from it four bijections : P —* Q where P ç {O, i}?_1
and Q C S,. The doniaiiis are sets of restricted binary strings and the codomains are sets of
pattern-avoiding permutations. As a particular case we retrieve the original Simion-Schmidt
bij ect ion.
We also show that the l)ijections obtained are actually combinatorial isomorphisms, i.e.,
closeness—preserving bijections. Three of them have known Cray codes and generating alg
orithms for their domains and we present similar results for each corresponding codomain,
under the appropriate combinatorial isomorphism
Da Venezia all’Asia e ritorno. Esotismi e xenismi nelle versioni latine Z, P e L del Devisement dou monde
This paper focuses on the rendering of Marco Polo’s lexicon in the Latin versions Z, L, and P. Starting from the peculiar features of each version, the article aims to investigate the rendering of foreign terms, particularly exoticisms and xenisms, with the possible accompaniment of glosses, and paraphrases. An attempt will be made to measure the presence of any correlations between the lexical solutions of the three Latin redactions, and the source’s ‘encyclopaedia’
Vertical ridge augmentation around implants using e-PTFE titanium-reinforced membrane and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (bio-oss) : a case report
The aim of this case report was to evaluate the ability of Bio-Oss used together with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, titanium-reinforced membrane to restore a vertical bone defect. Bio-Oss served as a filler material. After the membrane was removed, screw-type implants were placed. During this phase, cylindric bone samples were retrieved from the augmented area for histologic examination. The biopsy samples were composed of low-density trabecular bone with numerous interspersed graft particles. Clinical and histologic results demonstrated that this surgical technique could be a successful and predictable procedure for rebuilding a resorbed ridge to place implants.

Vertical ridge augmentation in the esthetic zone
The reconstruction of deficient alveolar ridges using vertical and/or horizontal guided bone regeneration techniques allows for ideal implant placement, which is crucial for function and also for esthetically successful outcomes. Unlike in the past, when meeting a patient's functional demands was sufficient, many patients now have greater expectations from their implant restoration. Hence, it is no longer enough simply to restore the edentulous space with a functioning tooth or teeth. It has been suggested that patients now measure their final restoration using the contralateral natural tooth as the gold standard. Both subjective and objective levels of patient information on dental implants have increased significantly in the last decade. As a result of this demand, implant literature has inherited and developed specific esthetic parameters and patient-centered outcomes from studies in the restorative field. Unfortunately, studies reporting on guided bone regeneration in the esthetic zone entirely lack such parameters and outcomes. Currently, there is a strong need for a consensus on objective and well-defined parameters to assess the esthetics in bone regeneration and subsequently on implant dentistry

Newborns' perceptual categorization for closed and open geometric forms
This study explored newborns' ability to perceive perceptual similarities between different exemplars of 2 broad classes of simple shapes: closed and open geometric forms. Three experiments were carried out using a visual paired-comparison task. Evidence showed that, after familiarization either to closed-shaped or to openshaped forms, newborns manifested a novelty preference for a novel-category rather than for a familiar-category exemplar (Experiment 1). This result could not be explained either as a consequence of the newborns' inability to discriminate
between instances of the same category of simple geometric forms (Experiment 2), or as a consequence of a spontaneous preference for the novel-category exemplars (Experiment 3). Overall, findings revealed that newborns are able to form broad categories of distinguishable geometric shapes by relying on the shapes'
perceptual similarity
