MEASUREMENT OF LOW AND HIGH FREQUENCY ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS IN A SOUTHERN SALENTO TOWN(ITALY)
In recent years, industrial and technological development has
led to a remarkable increase in the environment of non-ionizing
radiation produced by artificial sources. The increased production
and geographical spread of electromagnetic fields may
be dangerous for the health of people exposed to them. Therefore,
we carried out a survey of low- and high- frequency emission
sources, measuring the intensity of the electromagnetic
fields and characterising the emission systems in the district of
Otranto in southern Italy. The low-frequency electromagnetic
fields were measured using a PMM 8053 portable gauge for the
frequency interval 5Hz-100kHz, a Wandel & Goltermann EMR
300 portable gauge for the 100 kHz-3GHz frequency interval
and a HI-4455 probe for the 200 kHz-40 GHz frequency interval.
The results of our measurements showed that the emissions
for low and high frequencies were within the limits specified by
the regulations in force. The only exception was a radio mast
at point n. 10 (Masseria Uliveto) near which a value of 10.1
V/m above both the warning value and the quality target value
specified by the Prime Minister’s Decree (P.M.D.) of 8th July
2003.
However, these limits must be considered the minimum requirement
consistent with the general aim of reducing exposure where
technically possible and where conditions allow
Endometriosis: Pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy and association with cancer (Review)
Endometriosis is a painful reproductive and immunological disease afflicting about 7-10% of women worldwide. It is one of the most frequent benign gynaecological diseases; however, little is known about the pathogenetic processes leading to the development and maintenance of this disease and the currently available therapeutic strategies are unsatisfactory. The goal of this article is to review the most recent advancements in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of this disease. The risk for cancer among women with endometriosis will be analyzed in light of the most recent epidemiological and functional studies focused on this disease
A first checklist of the vascular flora of the Polignano a mare coast (Apulia, Southern Italy)
For the first time a checklist of the vascular flora of the coast of Polignano a Mare, a town located by the Adriatic Sea, about 30 km south of Bari (the capital of Apulia) is presented. At the end of the floristic work, in total, 457 species were listed. Some of them are more important than others since they are endemic, amphiadriatic, of phytogeographic interest or included under the International Conventions of Berne and CITES, Regional and Italian Red List or the Directive 92/43/EEC. In a review of the literature it was found that three species were not correctly reported, five were not found at all, twelve are considered alien and four are believed to be new entries at the regional level
On the design of linear virtual sensors for low cost vehicle stability control
The design of linear direct virtual sensors (DVS) to estimate yaw rate for vehicle stability control systems is investigated. The obtained DVS is stable and it can be used in a large range of operating conditions. It is shown how the use of closed-loop collected data and a suitable choice of the measured variables in sensor design improves the estimation accuracy. The effectiveness of the proposed DVS design is demonstrated by its employment in an existing yaw rate feedback loop, based on an Active Front Steering actuator and designed using Internal Model Control techniques. Robust stability is guaranteed in the presence of model uncertainty and of the DVS. In particular, the presented study shows that the DVS technology can be conveniently taken into account to replace physical sensors to obtain low cost stability control solutions for application on A and B segment cars. © 2008 IEEE
A study on the use of virtual sensors in vehicle control
The design of linear virtual sensors to estimate yaw rate for vehicle stability control systems is investigated. Standard model-based virtual sensor design techniques are compared to novel direct virtual sensor (DVS) design methodologies. The obtained DVS is stable and it can be used in a large range of operating conditions. It is shown how the use of virtual sensors derived directly from data and a suitable choice of the measured variables in sensor design improves the estimation and control accuracy. © 2008 IEEE
Vehicle stability control using direct virtual sensors
The paper investigates the use of a direct virtual sensor (DVS) to replace a physical sensor in a vehicle stability control system. A yaw control system is considered and the proposed solution can be particularly useful when a fault of the yaw rate physical sensor occurs. A DVS is a stable linear filter derived directly from input-output data, collected in a preliminary experiment. In this work, it is shown that, by using data collected in a closed-loop fashion, better DVS accuracy can be obtained with a reduced number of measured variables. Moreover, the robust stability of the closed-loop system employing a DVS is studied. The effectiveness of the presented results is shown through numerical simulations of harsh manoeuvres, performed using a detailed model of a vehicle equipped with an active front steering device. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
