    Impact Of Social Apps (Twitter, Facebook And Youtube) On Journalistic Culture: An Online Survey Of Working Journalists In Pakistan

    Social networking apps like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube has transformed the traditional culture of journalism. The primary motivation of the research is to inquire the impacts of digital media on working journalists. Moreover, effectiveness of digital medium in journalistic culture is examined under the umbrella of Media Ecology/Medium Theory. Cultural Performance Theory is applied to analyze the digital cultural performance in the field of journalism. Survey method having 150 respondents (working journalists) was used to find out all these queries. Findings of the study show that news organizations in Pakistan are changing their business model by adopting digital culture for their survival. In addition, findings show that digitally illiterate journalists who do not have enough resources to hire someone for their social media management might have survival issues in future. Another important finding is that majority of the journalists are ready to leave traditional media if they will be successful in creating space for themselves on social media. In the conclusion, there are some suggestions for journalists and fresh students of media and communication studies about their survival in the arena of digital world

    The objective of this study is to examine the methods used by brands to market their products during special occasions and analyze the influence of these promotional strategies on consumer buying patterns. To accomplish this, brands employ a range of promotional tactics during significant events like Independence Day, Mother's Day, New Year's Resolution Day, Blessed Friday, Eid, and others to boost sales and outperform their competitors. The study employed the AIDA model as the research instrument and gathered data through surveys. The findings suggest that promotional activities conducted by brands during special occasions have a favorable impact on consumer buying behavior, resulting in heightened sales. Consumers are enticed by various discount offers provided by different brands in the market

    The Weight of Words and Limit to Freedom of Expression: A Journalists’ Perspective in Pakistan

    Freedom of Expression is one of the most widely protected and debated constitutional right. It can be traced in almost all parts of the world. When it comes to guarding basic rights and especially with respect to freedom of expression it is also protected in Pakistan‟s constitution. The Article 19 of Constitution of Pakistan defends the right to freedom of expression of its citizens but freedom of expression is still not being a cherished idea in Pakistan. Therefore. this study is designed to understand the factors influencing the freedom of expressions in Pakistani media. This study also aims to investigate the role of pressure groups in cribbing media freedom of expression. To fulfill the purpose of the study, survey method is used, 100 Lahore based Journalists who are working in electronic media are selected through simple random sampling. The responses of the journalists are analyzed under agenda setting theory. This study concludes that Pakistan media is not working freely. Journalists in Pakistan agree that they face restrictions from pressure groups. According to them, Military and political groups are the strongest pressure group that influence the freedom of expression in Pakistani journalists. As this research points out the impact of pressure groups on media content and also indicates that how media content is mold according to the perception of pressure groups.&nbsp

    Exploited Edens: paradise discourse in colonial and postcolonial literature

    This thesis examines the relation between figures of paradise and the ideologies and economies of colonialism, imperialism, and global capitalism, arguing that paradise myth is the product of a value-laden discourse related to profit, labour, and exploitation of resources, both human and environmental, which evolves in response to differing material conditions and discursive agendas. The literature of imperialism and conquest abounds with representations of colonies as potential gold-lands to be mined materially or discursively: from the EI Dorado of the New World and the 'infernal paradise' of Mexico, to the 'Golden Ophir' of Africa and the 'paradise of dharma' of Ceylon. Most postcolonial analyses of paradise discourse have focused exclusively on the Caribbean or the South Pacific, failing to acknowledge the appearance of fantasies of paradise in association with Africa and Asia. Therefore, my thesis not only performs a comparative reading of marginalized paradisal topoi and tropes related to Mexico, Zanzibar, and Ceylon, but also uncovers literature from these regions which has been overlooked in mainstream postcolonial .criticism, mapping the circulations, continuities, and reconfigurations of the paradise myth as it travels across colonie{and continents, empires and ideologies. My analysis of these three regions is divided into six chapters, the first of each section excavating colonial uses ofthe paradise myth and constructing its genealogy for that particular region, the second investigating revisionary uses of the motif by postcolonial writers including Malcolm Lowry, Wilson Harris, Abdulrazak Gurnah, and Romesh Gunesekera. I address imperialist discourse from outside the country in conjunction with discourse from within the independent nation in order to demonstrate how paradise begins as a literal topos motivating European exploration and colonization, develops into an ideological myth justifying imperial praxis and economic exploitation, and [mally becomes a literary motif used by contemporary postcolonial writers to challenge colonial representations and criticize neocolonial conditions

    graficas, tablasThis thesis introduces a methodology for modeling commercial photovoltaic panels at the cell level operating under partial shading conditions. In the first part, a review of the literature is presented, focusing on the proper representation of the current-voltage characteristics in both forward and reverse bias, the mathematical formulation, the circuit model, and the estimation of parameters for photovoltaic cells. In the second part, the single diode model (SDM), the direct-reverse model (DRM), and Bishop’s model are introduced, emphasizing their current-voltage relationship, mathematical formulation, circuit model, and parameter requirements. In the third part of the thesis, a procedure to obtain I-V curves in panel terminals without the need for any physical intervention is detailed. This procedure is necessary to compare the behavior of the three models analyzed in both quadrants. The procedure requires a panel without a bypass diode and measurement equipment capable of acquiring current, voltage, temperature, and irradiation. After considering the evaluation of some metrics such as root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), Bishop’s model is selected for use in the methodology. In the fourth part, a methodology to estimate the parameters of Bishop’s model is proposed, which formulates the estimation of the parameters as an optimization problem. The metho- dology uses a genetic algorithm, and it is validated using information from two commercial panels.
