In particular, name disambiguation is required to allow accurate publication lists, citation counts and impact measures to be determined. This paper describes a graph-based approach to author disambiguation on large-scale citation networks. Using self-citation, co-authorship and document source analyses, AKTiveAuthor clusters papers, achieving precision of 0.997 and recall of 0.818 over a test group of eight surname clusters
The political instrumentalization of professional football in Francoist Spain 1939-1975
No full textPhDThe objective of this thesis is to be the first systematic study of the
political instrumentalization of football in Francoist Spain from 1939
to 1975.
Seven separate and contrasting aspects of this political
instrumentalization may be isolated, and, accordingly, this thesis will
consist of a chapter examining each one of these seven aspects in turn.
After a first introductory chapter, Chapter Two will examine the
application of Fascist concepts to Spanish football. In the third
chapter, the questions of whether and to what extent football was used
by the Franco regime as a political soporific will be discussed. The
theme of Chapter Four is the lack of democracy within the structures of
the game, a situation that is alleged to have been deliberately imposed
by the regime in order to not create an uncomfortable comparison for
itself with the lack of national and local political democracy. The
poor working conditions of the footballers, which mirrored those of the
great majority of Spanish workers during the Franco period, are the
subject of Chapter Five. In the sixth Chapter, the political
significance of the presence in Francoist Spain of a group of refugee
players and coaches from Europe will be examined. The diplomatic
and ambassadorial significance of football, in particular of the
spectacular international triumphs of the Real Madrid club, will be
discussed in Chapter Seven. The political significance of football as a
focus for Basque and Catalan nationalist sentiment, in opposition to the
centralist Madrid regime, is the subject of Chapter Eight
Southern Thailand: from conflict to negotiations?
Full text linkSummary: In this Analysis, University of Leeds professor Duncan McCargo argues that the recent Malaysian-backed Southern Thai peace initiative has now run into some serious problems. He argues that despite its various shortcomings the initiative is still worthy of support, since it has gained far more traction that any previous attempts to address the decade-long insurgency. Thailand needs to maintain focus on the southern conflict despite its current preoccupation with a national-level political crisis that threatens to topple the government of Yingluck Shinawatra.
Key findings
The conflict in Southern Thailand is one of Asia’s most serious insurgencies, with over 6,000 dead over the last 10 years.
The Malaysian government sponsored negotiations represents the best hope for reaching a political settlement and bringing peace to the region.
However, both sides need to show greater commitment to the negotiations, introducing new structures and procedures

David Duncan Wallace (1874-1951) was a Professor of History at Wofford College from 1899 through 1947 and was the author of the three volume set titled, History of South Carolina published in 1934. He is considered one of the foremost historians in State. The papers consist of his correspondence, research notes, clippings, and published and unpublished manuscripts related to his publications and areas of research. The spectrum of children's palliative care needs: a classification framework for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions
No full textObjectives: This paper examined the potential of a new classification framework, The Spectrum of Children's Palliative Care Needs, to facilitate identification of children with palliative care needs for the purposes of minimum data set collection and population needs assessment. Methods: Health and social care professionals (n=50) in a range of paediatric palliative care settings applied The Spectrum to (i) clinical vignettes and (ii) consecutive children on their caseloads. They also provided confidence ratings and written comments about their experiences. Inter-rater reliability, conceptual validity, acceptability, feasibility and sustainability were examined. A subset of professionals (n=9) also participated in semistructured telephone interviews to provide further insight. Results: Inter-rater reliability for the vignettes (κ=0.255) was fair. However, professionals were more confident applying The Spectrum to their caseloads, which included children (n=74) with a range of life-limiting/life-threatening conditions. The Spectrum made conceptual sense in relation to these children and was considered to offer a meaningful way to define the eligible population in service mapping. Benefits for clinical work (eg, facilitating patient review, workload management, clinical audit) and research were also identified. However, important threats to reliability were highlighted. Conclusions: Preliminary assessment of The Spectrum confirms its potential to promote consistent data set collection in children's palliative care. The results have been used to produce a revised version and user guidelines to address issues raised by participants.
