Twinning-induced pseudoelastic behavior in (MoW)85(TaTi)7.5Zr7.5
We provide a critical atomistic evidence of pseudoelastic behavior in complex solid-solution BCC Mo-W-Ta-Ti-Zr alloy. Prior to this work, only limited single-crystal BCC solids of pure metals and quaternary alloys have shown pseudoelastic behavior at low temperatures and high strain rates. The deformation mechanisms investigated using classical molecular simulations under tensile-compressive loading reveal temperature-dependent pseudoelastic behavior aided by twinning during the loading-unloading cycle. The pseudoelasticity is found to be independent of loading directions with identical cyclic deformation characteristics during uniaxial loading. Additionally, temperature variation from 77 to 1500 K enhances the elastic strain recovery in the alloy. This is a pre-print of the article Sharma, Aayush, Valery I. Bunofagea gracilipes Lawrence, 1959, by original designation. Gender. Feminine. Diagnosis. Ocularium placed toward the anterior margin of the carapace. Proximal segment of chelicers with shallow bulla. Legs unarmed, with leg II much longer than leg IV and three times the length of the body; tarsal formula 3: 4: 5: 6. Distitarsus I with two articles, distitarsus II with three articles. Male genitalia long, slender; ventral plate defined only as a distal tapering setigerous portion of truncus; with 4 pairs of lateral and two pair of ventrodistal small acuminate setae and one very large foliaceous seta; stragulum long and tubular, with two pairs of square terminal processes, stylus flagelliform and needlelike; no rutrum and no pergula. Remarks. Originally in Phalangodinae, transferred to Zalmoxidae by Staręga (1992). The general appearance of this genus suggests a distant relationship to Zalmoxidae, The penis of a paratype of Bunofagea gracilipes has been dissected and examined by us, and it includes structures characteristic of Phalangodidae (Fig. 2); we therefore consider Bunofagea to be a member of Phalangodidae new familial assignment. Furthermore, the related monotypic Madagascan genus Remyus Roewer, 1949 has been included in a molecular phylogeny and subsequently transferred to Phalangodidae (Sharma & Giribet, in press), suggesting a similar placement for Bunofagea.Published as part of Sharma, Prashant P., Kury, Adriano B. & Giribet, Gonzalo, 2011, Zalmoxidae (Arachnida: Opiliones: Laniatores) of the Paleotropics: a catalogue of Southeast Asian and Indo-Pacific species, pp. 37-58 in Zootaxa 2972 on page 41, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20662

Analýza 23 extrahovaných polyetylénových vložiek typ Bicon - plus s rozšíreným použitím v Českej republike poukázala na niektoré problémy spojené so zlyhaním implantátu. Adhezívno - abrazívne opotrebenie bolo identifikované v oblasti penetrácie femurálnej hlavice a následné poškodenia ako delaminácia materiálu , plastické deformácie a pitting boli pozorované v okolí tejto oblasti. Analýza materiálových vlastností poukázala na degradáciu mechanických a chemických vlastností, čo bolo prevažne závislé od rozsahu opotrebenia implantátu. U implantátov boli pozorované výrazné plastické deformácie , nárast oxidačného indexu a nižší pomer tvrdosti voči modulu elasticity, v porovnaní s novými vzorkami. Tečenie materiálu a plastické deformácie, ktoré vykazovali všetky extrahované vzorky boli analyzované v závere predloženej dizertačnej práce, na základe testov na nových implantátoch v zábehovom cykle. Marketing of renewable energy: emerging themes and their directions using interpretive structural modeling
Today, the need for renewable energy is omnipresent as all the nations, including developed and developing economies, are struggling with environmental problems like ‘greenhouse gas emissions’, ‘climate change’, ‘increase in carbon footprints’, and ‘global warming’. Businesses are also getting affected to reshape their models for implementing effective marketing strategies to increase and satisfy the demand for renewable energies. This business shift has catered to the attention of business scholars across the globe. Despite the surge in interest of business scholars, the extent field appears to be fragmented and the factors leading to adoption of renewable energies at different levels are in their complex state. Therefore, our article sheds light on emerging themes using keyword analysis and integrates a model using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) to structure the directions of the enablers of renewable energies. Our study guides academicians and policy makers regarding the milestones upon which the field has embarke
Significance of the high charge state of projectile ions inside the target and its role in electron capture leading to target-ionization phenomena
The K x-ray spectra of different targets (Cu, Zn, and Ge) induced by 3-5 MeV/u Si projectile ions have been measured to determine the K-shell ionization cross section. A significant difference is observed between the measurements and theoretical estimates, with the latter being about 50% below the experimental results. This underestimation is attributed to the charge exchange from the target K shell to projectile K and L shells. Such an observation can only be possible if the projectile ions attain up to H- and He-like charge states. Corresponding projectile charge state fractions have been evaluated from the Lorentzian charge state distribution, where the mean charge state is taken from the Fermi gas model [W. Brandt, Phys. Rev. Lett. 30, 358 (1973)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.30.358] and the width from the Novikov and Teplova approach [Phys. Lett. A 378, 1286 (2014)10.1016/j.physleta.2014.03.004]. The sum of the direct ionization cross section and K-K+K-L capture cross sections gives a good agreement with the measured cross sections. Furthermore, we have validated this methodology with available data for a Si ion on Ti target. Such results may be useful in many solid target-based applications.Fil: Chatterjee, Soumya. Interpretable machine learning-guided design of Fe-based soft magnetic alloys
We present a machine-learning guided approach to predict saturation magnetization (MS) and coercivity (HC) in Fe-rich soft magnetic alloys, particularly Fe-Si-B systems. ML models trained on experimental data reveals that increasing Si and B content reduces MS from 1.81T (DFT~2.04 T) to ~1.54 T (DFT~1.56T) in Fe-Si-B, which is attributed to decreased magnetic density and structural modifications. Experimental validation of ML predicted magnetic saturation on Fe-1Si-1B (2.09T), Fe-5Si-5B (2.01T) and Fe-10Si-10B (1.54T) alloy compositions further support our findings. These trends are consistent with density functional theory (DFT) predictions, which link increased electronic disorder and band broadening to lower MS values. Experimental validation on selected alloys confirms the predictive accuracy of the ML model, with good agreement across compositions. Beyond predictive accuracy, detailed uncertainty quantification and model interpretability including through feature importance and partial dependence analysis reveals that MS is governed by a nonlinear interplay between Fe content, early transition metal ratios, and annealing temperature, while HC is more sensitive to processing conditions such as ribbon thickness and thermal treatment windows. The ML framework was further applied to Fe-Si-B/Cr/Cu/Zr/Nb alloys in a pseudo-quaternary compositional space, which shows comparable magnetic properties to NANOMET (Fe84.8Si0.5B9.4Cu0.8 P3.5C1), FINEMET (Fe73.5Si13.5B9 Cu1Nb3), NANOPERM (Fe88Zr7B4Cu1), and HITPERM (Fe44Co44Zr7B4Cu1. Our fundings demonstrate the potential of ML framework for accelerated search of high-performance, Co- and Ni-free, soft magnetic materials. This is a preprint from Nachnani, Aditi, Kai K. Pseudoelastic deformation in Mo-based refractory multi-principal element alloys
Phase diagrams supported by density functional theory methods can be crucial for designing high entropy alloys that are subset of multi-principal-element alloys. We present phase and property analysis of quinary (MoW)(x)Zr-y(TaTi)(1-x-y) refractory high-entropy alloys from combined Calculation of Phase Diagram (CALPHAD) and density-functional theory results, supplemented by molecular dynamics simulations. Both CALPHAD and density-functional theory analysis of phase stability indicates a Mo-W-rich region of this quinary has a stable single-phase body-centered-cubic structure. We report first quinary composition from Mo-W-Ta-Ti-Zr family of alloy with pseudo-elastic behavior, i.e., hysteresis in stress-strain. Our analysis shows that only Mo-W-rich compositions of Mo-W-Ta-Ti-Zr, i.e., Mo + W >= 85 at. % , show reproducible hysteresis in stress-strain responsible for pseudo-elastic behavior. The (MoW)(85)Zr-7.5(TaTi)(7.5) was down-selected based on temperature-dependent phase diagram analysis and molecular dynamics simulations predicted elastic behavior that reveals twinning-assisted pseudoelastic behavior. While mostly unexplored in body-centered-cubic crystals, twinning is a fundamental deformation mechanism that competes against dislocation slip in crystalline solids. This alloy shows identical cyclic deformation characteristics during uniaxial loading, i.e., the pseudoelasticity is isotropic in loading direction. Additionally, a temperature increase from 77 to 1,500 K enhances the elastic strain recovery in load-unload cycles, offering possibly control to tune the pseudoelastic behavior. This is a manuscript of an article published as Sharma, Aayush, Prashant Singh, Tanner Kirk, Valery I. We introduced a new approach to volumetric wear assessments of polyethylene liners using a 3D optical scanner. The new approach brought benefits of time-efficient measurements, large number of points collected for post-processing, the possibility to create pre-worn models of retrieved samples as well as the possibility to exclude damages caused by surgeon during revision surgeries. The method was validated by gravimetric method according to the ISO 14242 Standard. The new approach was then used in three studies focusing on wear rate and mechanical changes of polyethylene liners. In the studies, the analysis of polyethylene liners geometry was followed by a detailed surface analysis of contact areas down to the microstructural level. Clinical history data for 23 retrieved liners combined with wear analysis showed several issues affecting failure of the polyethylene implants. We worked with Bicon-plus type implants, that are widely used in clinical practice in the Czech Republic. Structural surface analysis of the retrieved samples showed several different wear mechanisms such as adhesion/abrasion, pitting, delamination and plastic deformation. Analysis of material behaviour showed mechanical changes and chemical degradation in retrieved prostheses which mostly correlated with the wear depth. Investigated samples showed plastic deformations, an increased oxidation index and lower hardness to elasticity ratio compared to the new samples. Creep phenomenon or plastic deformation, which was investigated in the final part of thesis, occurred in all the retrieved samples. Further in vitro testing showed presence of creep in the run-in phase of implants. This thesis aimed to introduce a new approach to wear analysis using the optical scanning method and to apply the new approach for investigations of surface geometry of retrieved polyethylene liners. The method proved to be a suitable method for investigations of retrieved polyethylene liners helping to better understand the processes leading to implant failures.
