Sustainable collection and complete extraction of oral fluid for forensic toxicology applications
Among the several biological matrices, saliva (or oral fluid (OF)) has gained acceptance over the past
decades as an alternative biological matrix, it became prevalent over blood and urine for illicit drug
screening (driving under the influence of drugs investigations) and diagnostic applications (detection of
biomarkers involved in cancer, heart and infectious diseases) and it is considered the best research tool for
scientific investigations on humans from an ethical point of view [1]. OF provides a simple and non-invasive
procedure with easy storage and transportation properties and also reduces risk of cross contamination
and exposure of personnel. However, even if extremely simple, sample collection is a critical part in the
analytical workflow as well as a waste generator stage. Collection methods involve spitting, passive drool or
disposable devices with some type of absorbent material (e.g., foam pad) [2,3]. Commercial devices that
are typically used are in plastic material so they should give incomplete desorption of lipophilic drugs or
metabolites and similarly to other diagnostics wastes they are generally destroyed through open burning
and incineration, resulting in the emission of dioxins, furans and particulate matter. Measures to ensure the
safe and environmentally sound management of these wastes are of particular interest for a sustainable
development
Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy and Integration between the Dimensions of Spirituality and Religiosity in the Treatment of Depression A Literature Review
The relationship between spirituality and religiosity and the psycho-physical well-being of individuals represents an emblematic area of interest. Several studies show how spirituality and religiosity and psycho-physical well-being are related to mental health, in particular to depressive symptoms. From a clinical perspective, these dimensions are operationalised in «spiritual and religious coping», a complex and multidimensional series of strategies that are activated when patients draw on their faith to cope with harmful events. Data show a lack of clarity of the clinical adaptation of spirituality and religiosity, through cognitive-behavioural protocols. Therefore, the aim of this review is to analyse the current cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy protocols, which integrate patients’ spiritual and religious beliefs. The research was conducted using the following search engines: «PubMed», «Scopus» and «PsycInfo». Results show a protective effect of spiritual and religious dimensions on depressive psychopathology and depressive symptoms in comorbidities. The protocol demonstrates the moderate efficacy of cognitive-behavioural therapy, associated with spiritual and religious dimensions by analysing and modifying irrational or dysfunctional beliefs in depressive symptoms. Evidence shows the value of spirituality and religiosity in determining a protective effect on mental health and the possibility of effectively integrating spiritual dimensions into cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy
Exploring Parent-Child Traits and Relationship Quality: A Network Study
Big five and dark triad personality traits are likely to influence the perceived quality of the parent-child relationship, as they can impact the behavior of family members and parenting styles. The main objective of this study was to analyze how adult children's and parents' personality traits affect the perceived quality of the parent-child relationship within dyadic interactions. The results revealed that parents' agreeableness and psychopathy had positive or negative effects on children's positive behaviors and feelings toward their parents, respectively. Moreover, mothers' and fathers' positive behaviors and feelings toward their children were positively or negatively associated, respectively, with children's conscientiousness and psychopathy. Furthermore, network analyses demonstrated that the impact of parents' emotional stability and psychopathy on children's perceived quality of the parent-child relationship varied depending on the gender of the parents. Thus, the relationship between personality traits and the perceived quality of the parent-child relationship is influenced by family roles, revealing a complex and variable structure in different dyadic family relationships
Thermal expansion anomalies of R(Fe, M)(12) (R=Y, Nd; M=Mo and Si)
Structural and thermal-expansion anomaly studies on R(Fe,M)(12) (R=Nd and and Y, M=Mo and Si) compounds were performed by x-ray diffraction. Mo atoms occupy the 8i site. While Si atoms occupy the 8f and 8j sites but not the 8i site. Thermal-expansion anomaly shows only in ab plane in the Mo compounds, while becomes very weak and along with only the c axis in the Si compounds. The anomaly was attributed to the contribution of the interactions of short Fe-Fe distances similar to the previous explanation on other R-Fe intermetallics and that of other strongly positive interactions such as 8j-8j. Maternità a rischio, interazioni precoci e attaccamento infantile
Studied the effects of maternal depression and psychosocial risk factors on emotional relational development in infants. Subjects included 23 female adults (aged 17-44 yrs) at risk for depression, 19 female adults (aged 17-44 yrs) with psychosocial risk factors, and 27 normal female adults (aged 17-44 yrs; controls). Subjects were evaluated during the 5th mo of pregnancy, and a 1, 3, 6, and 12 mo after birth of their children. The Center for Epidemiology Studies-Depression Scale (L. S. Radloff, 1977), the Maternal Representations during Pregnancy Interview (M. Ammaniti et al, 1995), the Adult Attachment Interview (C. George, 1984), the SCL-90, and the Strange Situation Procedure (M. D. Ainsworth et al, 1978) were used. The results indicate comorbid psychiatric symptoms associated with depression and insecure mental representations associated with psychosocial risk factors during pregnancy and a higher prevalence of insecure attachment patterns in children of mothers at risk of depression or with psychosocial risk factors compared to children of control mothers. The results are discussed in relation to functional, dysfunctional, and developmental aspects of mother-child attachment patterns. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved
