Assessment of Economic Growth of the Republic of Moldova in the Context of Global Economic Crisis

    No full text
The world economic crisis has had a negative impact on the economic development of Moldova, but recent trends show that in 2010 we were able to forecast a small economic growth. The author examines the problems faced by the Moldavian economy which shackle its strong recovery. The current evolutions of the Moldavian economy are analyzed in the paper as well.remittances, foreign trade, competitiveness, structural reforms, macroeconomic environment

LABİOPLASTİ KONULU MAKALELERİN BİLİM HARİTALAMA TEKNİĞİ İLE ANALİZİ

    No full text
Objective: Labiaplasty is the surgical reduction of the labia minora. Labiaplasty has become increasingly popular in recent years. The aim of this study is to analyze the studies on labiaplasty in the literature with the science mapping technique. Materials and Methods: The data used in this study were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus and PubMed databases, which contain abstracts and references from high quality and effective scientific articles. The dataset is assembled using the Python programming language and the underlying Pandas library. The obtained data were analyzed with Biblioshiny in R-Studio. Results: The results of the analysis made on the basis of the countries of the responsible authors of the studies on labiaplasty show that the USA is ahead with a total of 85 articles according to the number of articles. Gemma Sharp is the author with the highest number of articles with 19 articles in terms of total number of articles. The source that publishes the most articles on labiaplasty is the Aesthetic Surgery Journal with 58 articles. Conclusion: In our article, the subject of labiaplasty has been analyzed in terms of science mapping, which is the most interesting subject of the last period. It is considered that this study, which is frequently encountered in the literature, will shed light on the studies in its field

Design, Synthesis, and Molecular Modeling Studies of Novel Coumarin Carboxamide Derivatives as eEF-2K Inhibitors

    No full text
Eukaryotic elongation factor-2 kinase (eEF-2K) is an unusual alpha kinase commonly upregulated in various human cancers, including breast, pancreatic, lung, and brain tumors. We have demonstrated that eEF-2K is relevant to poor prognosis and shorter patient survival in breast and lung cancers and validated it as a molecular target using genetic methods in related in vivo tumor models. Although several eEF-2K inhibitors have been published, none of them have shown to be potent and specific enough for translation into clinical trials. Therefore, development of highly effective novel inhibitors targeting eEF-2K is needed for clinical applications. However, currently, the crystal structure of eEF-2K is not known, limiting the efforts for designing novel inhibitor compounds. Therefore, using homology modeling of eEF-2K, we designed and synthesized novel coumarin-3-carboxamides including compounds A1, A2, and B1–B4 and evaluated their activity by performing in silico analysis and in vitro biological assays in breast cancer cells. The Molecular Mechanics/Generalized Born Surface Area (MM/GBSA) area results showed that A1 and A2 have interaction energies with eEF-2K better than those of B1–B4 compounds. Our in vitro results indicated that compounds A1 and A2 were highly effective in inhibiting eEF-2K at 1.0 and 2.5 μM concentrations compared to compounds B1–B4, supporting the in silico findings. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that our homology modeling along with in silico analysis may be effectively used to design inhibitors for eEF-2K. Our newly synthesized compounds A1 and A2 may be used as novel eEF-2K inhibitors with potential therapeutic applications

Increasing Low Birth Weight Rates: Deliveries in a Tertiary Hospital in Istanbul

    No full text
Objective: Prevalence of low birth weight deliveries may vary across different environments. The necessity of determination of regional data prompted this study. Methods: Information of all deliveries from January 2004 to December 2008 was obtained from delivery registry records retrospectively. Initial data including birth weight, vital status, sex, maternal age and mode of delivery were recorded using medical files. The frequency of low birth weight, very low birth weight, extremely low birth weight and stillbirth deliveries were determined. Findings: Among 19,533 total births, there were 450 (23.04 per 1000) stillbirths. Low birth weight rate was 10.61%. A significant increase in yearly distribution of low birth weight deliveries was observed (P<0.001). Very low birth weight and extremely low birth weight delivery rates were 3.14% and 1.58% respectively. Among 2073 low birth weight infants, 333 (16.06%) were stillbirths. The stillbirth delivery rate and the birth of a female infant among low birth weight deliveries were significantly higher than infants with birth weight =2500g (P<0.001, OR=28.37), (P<0.001) retrospectively. There was no statistical difference between low birth weight and maternal age. The rate of cesarean section among low birth weight infants was 49.4%. Conclusion: High low birth weight and stillbirth rates, as well as the increase in low birth weight deliveries over the past five years in this study are striking. For reduction of increased low birth weight rates, appropriate intervention methods should be initiated
