An LIA+EDQNM strategy to study shocked turbulent mixtures

    No full text
Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of the interaction of shock waves with turbulent mixtures are only affordable for very low Reynolds numbers. We propose here to couple the Linear Interaction Analysis (LIA) with an Eddy-Damped Quasi-Normal Markovian (EDQNM) model to get inexpensive valuable information at large Reynolds number

Visually Enhanced Python Functions for Clinical Equality of Measurement Assessment

    No full text
    Equivalence testing requires specific procedures usually provided by specialized statistical software. The proposed package includes customized methods to assess biomedical equivalence and focuses on translating the outcomes into visual reports. The functions are coded in an object-oriented framework, contain improved plots or novel graphs to facilitate interpretation of the results, and are accompanied by console textual outputs to support users with additional explanations. Special attention has been devoted to verifying the preliminary assumptions of the statistical tests with automatic routines. The current module covers four aspects of biomedical statistics (equivalence, Bland--Altman and ROC analyses, effect size, and confidence intervals interpretation), offering these methodologies to the biomedical community as accessible stand-alone functions. The manuscript defines software's functions and innovations with examples and theoretical explanations.@inproceedings{FedCSIS202232, author={Mauro Nascimben and Lia Rimondini}, pages={241–249}, title={Visually Enhanced Python Functions for Clinical Equality of Measurement Assessment}, booktitle={Communication Papers of the 17th Conference on Computer Science and Intelligence Systems}, year={2022}, editor={Maria Ganzha and Leszek Maciaszek and Marcin Paprzycki and Dominik Ślęzak}, publisher={PTI}, doi={10.15439/2022F32}, url={http://dx.doi.org/10.15439/2022F32}, volume={32}, series={Annals of Computer Science and Information Systems}

The research put forward by the author of the Lia English Course Pekanbaru Language Institute Foundation in the process of recording a foundation does not shrink fixed assets, so that the value of fixed assets is not their true value. During the preparation of the financial statements, the foundation only prepares financial statements and income statements and does not prepare cash flow statements and notes on the financial statements. Based on research conducted by the author that the Lia English Course Pekanbaru Foundation Language Institute is not in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

MATERIAL CULTURE. AN ESSENTIAL SUBJECT OF THE ITALIAN DIASPORA

    No full text
The contemporary folklore appears in everyday life taking many free and unofficial forms across the vitality and diversity of social practices that call for renewed approaches, in Europe and Italy and abroad, following the path of European diaspora. Evaluating the multiplicity of folklore meanings and its capacity to integrate interactions between traditional and contemporary expressions and appropriations in specific contexts, the author explores the practicality of a new idea of folklore as sustainable, popular and domestic creativity on material and immaterial goods. Following the precious path indicated in 2005 by the American anthropologist Luc Eric Lassiter, the author is turning from “participant observation” to the “collaborative ethnography”. Collaboration between ethnographers and subjects has long been a product of the close, intimate relationships that define ethnographic research. Collaboration also preconditions and shapes research design as well as its dissemination. As a result, ethnographic subjects are shifting from being informants to being consultants. The emergence of collaborative ethnography highlights this relationship between consultant and ethnographer, moving it to centre stage as a calculated part not only of fieldwork but also of the writing process itself, as Lassiter suggests in The Chicago Guide to Collaborative Ethnography

"The Schizoid Narrator and the Paranoid Reader in Patrick McGrath's Spider"

    No full text
The essay discusses the relationship between two textual realizations, that of the unreliable narrator, represented in the novel by a man suffering from a schizoid personality disorder, and thet of the so called paranoid reader -- created by modernist New-Criticism and cajoled by several postmodernist writers. Secondarily it discusses the polarities represented by schizoid narrator and paranoid reader as enecting two different kinds of delirium and, finally, to compare the interaction between the two to what takes place between patient and analyst. The aim is also to offer a reading which can be applied to other works by the same author, since they all seem to follow a similar pattern, both structurally and ideologically

Statistics of the subgrid scales after the shock-turbulence interaction

    No full text
The interaction of a normal shock with isotropic turbulence (IT) represents a basic problem for studying some of the phenomena associated with high speed flows, such as hypersonic flight, supersonic combustion and Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF). In general, in practical applications, the shock width is much smaller than the turbulence scales and the upstream turbulent Mach number is modest. In this case, recent high resolution shock-resolved Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) (Ryu and Livescu, J. Fluid Mech., 756, R1, 2014) show that the interaction can be described by the Linear Interaction Approximation (LIA). By using LIA to alleviate the need to solve the shock, DNS post-shock data can be generated at much higher Reynolds numbers than previously possible. Here, such results with Taylor Reynolds number around 180180 are used to investigate the properties of the subgrid scales (SGS). In particular, it is shown that the shock interaction decreases the asymmetry of the SGS dissipation PDF as the shock Mach number increases, with a significant enhancement in size of the regions and magnitude of backscatter

Osservazioni sul folklore per una teoria della cultura e delle istituzioni politiche

    No full text
This essay observes the Italian situation in order to make an "anthropology of the sciences of culture" and in order to highlight the contribution that the sciences of culture could offer for a better understanding of the political processes that are taking place. In fact, some political problems of today could be interpreted through the particular lens of "demology", or study of "popular culture", which was a very important part of the Italian anthropological sciences. The same political problems of today could be interpreted as the cause and effect of the events of the Italian anthropological sciences, and of the attitude of intellectuals towards "non-intellectuals". The essay makes "theory" and does not report the experiences on the ground on which it rests, because it is the sum of the results of a thirty-year ethnography on this field, for which the Author refers to her volumes and articles mentioned in the bibliography. This Italian case is illuminating, and can provide an historical reading key to understand folklore and cultures in general

Linguistic Pathologies in Ancient Greece: Aristotele on Aphasia

    No full text
This papers deals with linguistic pathologies in ancient Greece, especially in Aristotle. All the author and literary text before Aristotele (Herodotus, Plato and so on) are considered. In the Corpus Aristotelicum there several passages about aphasia. Probl. , books x and XI are particularly relevant. In the biological works we read that little children , when they learn language , stutter. They behave, then as people affected by psellotes and traulotes. Ischonophonia is the most severe language desease Aristotle deals with: It consists of the distruction of rhythm and prosodic features of language. So, it can be concluded that acquisition ad loose of language has the same shape and pattern, in Aristotle as well as in Roman Jakobson; and prosodic featurs ar more relevant than phonetic features

Bicentenário do Museu Nacional: publicações científicas

This work arose from the need to compile and make our publications available quickly and easily to interested audiences, given the recurring demand from the Library and the Publications Committee for PDFs of very old and more recent volumes from the National Museum Archives and other periodicals of the Institution. The Archives are listed in ascending chronological order, from Volume 1 (1876) to Volume 68 (2010). We have attempted to maintain, as far as possible, the exact text used in the original publication, which explains some discrepancies in the correct use of language, italics, and upper and lower case. Two indexes are also included: subject and author. The first was based on the titles, abstracts, and/or keywords of the articles. In the second, given the inconsistencies in the presentation of first and last names across the various articles, we chose to use the last name (in cases where the last two were never hyphenated); in other cases, the compound surname is presented.
