Fujitsuka Chikashi’s The Understanding of Korean Confucianism
In this paper,I will examine the Significance and Limitation of Shinchō bunka tōden no kenkyū. Fujitsuka Chikashi(1879-1948, the author, who was a professor of Chinese philosophy in Keijō Imperial University started research on the interaction between Korean scholars and Chinese scholars in the 18-19th century. He especially focused on the Joseon Confucian scholar, Kim Jeong-hui(1786-1856), and had earned his Ph.D. degree in humanities at Tokyo Imperial University with his dissertation about Kim Jeong-hui. This book is a pioneering work on 18-19C’s academic interaction in East Asia. Nevertheless, it also has colonial limitations and a lack of understanding of Korean Confucianism
Patchwork Metal–Organic Frameworks by Radical-Mediated Heterografting of Star Polymers for Surface Modification
We report a synthetic methodology for decorating a surface of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with polymers through postsynthetic modification. Well-defined polymers with reversibly deactivated radical species at their chain end were reacted with vinyl-functionalized MOFs in the presence of a radical initiator. The radical addition forms a C-C bond between the polymer end with the functional group at the MOF ligand. We used sterically bulky star polymers containing electron-deficient maleimide chain ends, which facilitated modification of the external surface, yielding polymer-grafted MOF composite particles. A patchy MOF particle can also be obtained by simultaneously grafting two polymers and jammed at the immiscible liquid-liquid interface. We further show that the selective removal of a sacrificial polymer would partially expose the surface of MOFs to external environment, which hinders the uptake of macromolecular guests above the critical hydrodynamic size. Overall, four polymer@MOF composites have successfully been achieved through the present postsynthetic patchworks on MOFs with star polymers and selective etching process.
DAP5 promotes axonal outgrowth by increasing the translation of DSCR1.4
Spatial and temporal regulation of protein synthesis in
axon is important for axon outgrowth and steering.
Down syndrome candidate region 1(DSCR1)
regulates actin filaments formation and local
translation in axon by controling calcineurin,
phospatase. However, it is unknown whether DSCR1
mRNA is locally translated in axon. Here, we
investigated that DSCR1.4 mRNA, one of DSCR1
isoform exist and is translated in both soma and axon.
Not only cap-dependent but also cap-independent
translation is important for DSCR1.4 protein
synthesis. Translation of DSCR1.4 mRNA is
increased by Death-associated protein 5 (DAP5).
DSCR1.4 increased by DAP5 makes axons longer.
These findings have implications for understanding
relation of local translation and axon outgrowth,
steering.2
Upf1 contributes to Arc/Arg3.1gene expression

ThismechanismwasthoughttofunctionasacriticalbrakeonArcproteinsynthesis,allowingprecisecontrolofgeneexpression.TheRNAhelicaseUpf1isamajorcomponentoftheNMDmachinery,however,aspecificroleforthisproteinintheregulationofArcgeneexpressionremainsunclear.Here,wedemonstratethatUpf1functionsatthetranscriptionalandtranslationalleveltopromotealowbasallevelofArcgeneexpression.Specifically,
Upf1suppressesArctranscriptionbyenhancingdestabilizationofmRNAsencodingvarioustranscriptionfactors.Upf1alsobindstotheArc3’UTR,resultingintranslationalsuppression.Surprisingly,however,theArctranscriptescapesfromUpf1-mediatedNMDbybindingtoAgo2/miRISC,whichblocksNMDandfurthersuppressesArcmRNAtranslation.Finally,weshowthatsustainedArcexpressionresultingfromreducedlevelsofUpf1contributestoCofilinhyperphosphorylationandabnormalneuronaloutgrowth.
Collectively,thesedatarevealanewparadigmforArcgeneregulationandsuggestthatmultiplelevelsofUpf1-mediatedinhibitionmayallowneuronstomorerapidlyandeffectivelyrespondtochangesinneuronalactivity.1

VRK2expressionisknowntobemuchhigherinactivelyproliferatingcells,butismaintainedatalowlevelinthebrainbecauseitmakescellspronetopolyQaggregation.Herewefoundthatneuronalcell-specificbasallevelofVRK2isregulatednotbytranscriptionalregulationbutbypost-transcriptionalregulation.
HnRNPQspecificallybindsto3’UTRofVrk2mRNAinneuronalcellsandreduceditsmRNAstability.WereportadramaticdecreaseinCCT4levelbyreducinghnRNPQ,whichcontributetoincreaseinpolyQaggregation.Thus,ourresultsdemonstratethatthelevelofbrainhnRNPQcontributestoHDprogressionbyregulatingVrk2mRNAstabilityandopennewnobleprognosticmarkerofHD.2
Analysis of Privacy-Preserving Element Reduction of Multiset Jae Hong Seo
Among private set operations, the privacy preserving element reduction of a multiset can be an important tool for privacy enhancing technology as itself or in the combination with other private set operations. Recently, a protocol, over-threshold-set-union-protocol, for a privacy preserving element reduction method of a multiset was proposed by Kissner and Song in Crypto 2005. In this paper, we point out that there is a mathematical flaw in their polynomial representation of element reduction of a multiset and the resulting protocol error from the flaw in the polynomial representation of a multiset. We correct their polynomial representation of a multiset and propose an over-threshold-set-operation-protocol based on the corrected representation
A social ecology of stress and coping among homeless refugee families.

David Hollister, Ph.D. 1 computer file (PDF);ix, 264 pages, appendices A-E.Refugee families undergo multiple challenges and hardships that tend to cause tremendous psychological distress in the migration and resettlement processes. This dissertation research was designed to explore refugee families' mental health in the social ecological contexts of displacement and homelessness and to investigate stressors and coping in relation to transition of resources including social capital of refugee families. With three theoretical frameworks, a social ecology theory, stress and coping theory, and social capital theory, the author developed a series of hypothetical statements as well as research questions to modify and refine hypotheses on stress and coping processes of refugee families. A modified analytic induction method was adopted for analysis of interview data from 26 Hmong and Somali families in Twin Cities area.
The findings of this study revealed that psychological distress was deeply associated with challenges and transition in resources at various levels. Rearrangement of resources (cultural resources in particular) occurred after resettlement, which tended to impede coping capacity of refugee families and cause acculturation stress. Social capital, both bonding and linking, functioned as a critical form of resource for refugee families to resettle and adjust to the host community by supplementing personal, family, and cultural resources that are often sparse in refugee communities. The results of the current study imply that it is a critical coping strategy for refugee families to build or increase social capital, which sometimes leads families' secondary migration in search of better bonding social capital. This study also demonstrated high levels of psychological distress among refugee families, ranging from traumatic experiences before migration to acute stress after homelessness. Exposure to traumatic events before and during migration was salient in refugee families, while a lack of resources and frustrated coping strategies contributed to tremendous distress, which has been a chronic condition for the refugee families.
This dissertation underscores the importance of social work practice focusing on culturally responsive resettlement services considering various challenges and cultural coping of refugee families. Policy interventions promoting family and bonding social capital are also critical to improve resettlement outcomes as well as refugee mental health.Im, Hyojin. (2011).
