Overdose and intramuscular administration of Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine in a 2-month-old infant

    No full text
The Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is used against tuberculosis. According to the vaccination program in Turkey, DaBT-Hib-IPV (diphtheria-pertussis [acellular]-tetanus-haemophilus influenza type b-inactive polio vaccine), PVC13 (pneumoccocal conjugate vaccine) and BCG vaccines are given simultaneously to all 2-months-old infants, using different administration techniques. We report a 2-month-old infant who received an overdose and intramuscular BCG vaccine instead of DaBT-Hib-IPV. The patient was treated with isoniazid for six months and developed no complications during a one-year follow-up period

Acikgoz Y, Ozkaya O, Bek K, Genc G, Sensoy SG, Hokelek M. Cryptosporidiosis: A rare and severe infection in a pediatric renal transplant recipient. Abstract: Cryptosporidium is an intracellular protozoan parasite that causes gastroenteritis in human. In immunocompromised individuals, cryptosporidium causes far more serious disease. There is no effective specific therapy for cryptosporidiosis, and spontaneous recovery is the rule in healthy individuals. However, immunocompromised patients need effective and prolonged therapy. Here, we present our clinical experience in a six-yr-old boy who underwent living-related donor renal transplantation and who was infected with Cryptosporidium spp. Our patient was successfully treated with antimicrobial agents consisting of spiramycin, nitazoxanide, and paromomycin. At the end of second week of therapy, his stool became negative for Cryptosporidium spp. antigen and spiramycin was discontinued. Nitazoxanide and paromomycin treatment was extended to four wk. With this case, we want to emphasize that cryptosporidiosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of severe or persistent diarrhea in solid organ transplant recipients where rigorous antimicrobial therapy is needed

Acute suppurative parotitis in a 33-day-old patient

    No full text
Acute suppurative parotitis is a rare disease in childhood. Its incidence is higher in premature new-borns. Parotid swelling and pus drainage from Stenson's duct is pathognomonic, and Staphylococcus aureus is the causative agent in most cases. Here, a 33-day-old patient with acute suppurative parotitis is presented

    No full text
The article examines the contribution of Tatar women teachers to the education of the Turkmen people and to the training of national teaching staff for the Soviet Socialistic Republic of Turkmenistan in the first years of Soviet regime. The article explores the example of Gulnar Dzhanbekovna Karly, the oldest teacher of the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly. The author analyses the life path, scholarly and pedagogical work of the prominent Tatar woman, who during her half-century of fruitful work took an active part in the training of highly qualified young historian scholars of Turkmenistan and in the development of school textbooks. The article reveals how representatives of the Karly pedagogical dynasty, at least five generations of educators, including mullahs, teachers and lectors, selflessly served their people, the people of Turkmenistan and the profession of a historian scholar

Interaction and cooperation of the member states of the SCO in the context of regional security: lessons, challenges and prospects

    No full text
The author considers the main areas of cooperation of SCO member states in the framework of the international organization (the state security and the fight against terrorism, territorial integrity and stability, education, health, environment). The stages of security policy of the SCO are determined. Theevents of recent years have witnessed the growing negativetrends in the SCO region and adjacent territories. The fight against international terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking has become the focal activity of the SCO's security. It is obvious the necessity of diversification of foreign relations and finding new partners who would not seek to have a noticeableimpact on the configuration of alliances and integration structures in the region. Moreover, the author analyzes the problems and prospects of further cooperation and expanding the influence of the international organization. The directions for the strategy of integration of the SC are proposed

The article considers the problem of correlation of concepts “God” and “Satan” in religion. The solution to the problem the author sees in the traditions of Zoroastrianism that had a profound impact on the monotheistic religions.

Identification of adult risk factors has contributed to a decrease in the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer, particularly in developed countries. However, the prevailing etiologic model emphasizes risk factors associated with life style and occupational exposures. This emphasis leads to an excessive individualization of risk, weakening the link between epidemiology and public health. This article comments on the opinions of epidemiologists concerning the failures, limitations, and evolution of modern epidemiology that have helped redirect the field's theoretical underpinnings. Alternatives to the current model tend to integrate findings from molecular biology with classic risk factors and early adverse conditions in life, taking into account all these causal influences in hierarchical levels of organization. The author identifies and comments on three important approaches in this evolution: molecular epidemiology, the theory of early life factors, and multilevel models
