    Provenance-based trust for grid computing: Position Paper

    Current evolutions of Internet technology such as Web Services, ebXML, peer-to-peer and Grid computing all point to the development of large-scale open networks of diverse computing systems interacting with one another to perform tasks. Grid systems (and Web Services) are exemplary in this respect and are perhaps some of the first large-scale open computing systems to see widespread use - making them an important testing ground for problems in trust management which are likely to arise. From this perspective, today's grid architectures suffer from limitations, such as lack of a mechanism to trace results and lack of infrastructure to build up trust networks. These are important concerns in open grids, in which "community resources" are owned and managed by multiple stakeholders, and are dynamically organised in virtual organisations. Provenance enables users to trace how a particular result has been arrived at by identifying the individual services and the aggregation of services that produced such a particular output. Against this background, we present a research agenda to design, conceive and implement an industrial-strength open provenance architecture for grid systems. We motivate its use with three complex grid applications, namely aerospace engineering, organ transplant management and bioinformatics. Industrial-strength provenance support includes a scalable and secure architecture, an open proposal for standardising the protocols and data structures, a set of tools for configuring and using the provenance architecture, an open source reference implementation, and a deployment and validation in industrial context. The provision of such facilities will enrich grid capabilities by including new functionalities required for solving complex problems such as provenance data to provide complete audit trails of process execution and third-party analysis and auditing. As a result, we anticipate that a larger uptake of grid technology is likely to occur, since unprecedented possibilities will be offered to users and will give them a competitive edge

    Investigating the Cybersecurity of Smart Grids Based on Cyber-Physical Twin Approach

    While the increasing penetration of information and communication technology into distribution grid brings numerous benefits, it also opens up a new threat landscape, particularly through cyberattacks. To provide a basis for countermeasures against such threats, this paper addresses the investigation of the impact and manifestations of cyberattacks on smart grids by replicating the power grid in a secure, isolated, and controlled laboratory environment as a cyber-physical twin. Currently, detecting intrusions by unauthorized third parties into the central monitoring and control system of grid operators, especially attacks within the grid perimeter, is a major challenge. The development and validation of methods to detect and prevent coordinated and timed attacks on electric power systems depends not only on the availability and quality of data from such attack scenarios, but also on suitable realistic investigation environments. However, to create a comprehensive investigation environment, a realistic representation of the study object is required to thoroughly investigate critical cyberattacks on grid operations and evaluate their impact on the power grid using real data.     Dynamic spectrum access models: towards an engineering perspective in the spectrum debate

    The increased demand for wireless communications services, and innovations in smart radio technologies have spurred a debate in the recent past regarding the efficiency of the spectrum governance policy of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The two main camps that have emerged in this yet non-conclusive debate are the ones that are proponents of (i) the spectrum property rights and (ii) the spectrum commons. In this dissertation, we first present a detailed overview of the ongoing spectrum debate and then present two engineering models that allow certain types of realistic comparisons to be made. We call these models dynamic property-rights spectrum access (D-Pass) and dynamic-commons property-rights spectrum access (D-CPass). While both models introduced retain a bias toward the spectrum property rights approach based usage of spectrum, they also promote dynamic access and short term dedication of spectrum resources. Specifically, we consider a framework where operators compete for spectrum and users in a geographical area. A spectrum policy server (SPS) functions as a controller/enforcer as well as a clearinghouse for spectrum allocations. In the D-Pass model, the operators pay the SPS for the exact amount of bandwidth they are allocated, irrespective of the utilization of the bandwidth. Each operator competes for users via rate and price offers for utilizing the spectrum portion under its short term "ownership." We model the operator competition in the form of a SPS-mediated iterative bidding scheme that is reminiscent of a simultaneous ascending auction. In the D-CPass model, all operators have access to all the available bandwidth during the competition phase. The operators pay the SPS for the portion of the spectrum that they actually utilize (pay-as-you-go). They compete for each user via rate and price offers through an SPS-mediated iterative bidding scheme that is reminiscent of a single-item ascending auction. Our results indicate that both the spectrum access mechanism and the market forces play an important role in determining the resulting bandwidth utilization. Furthermore, under negligible spectrum usage costs, the commons-like model (D-CPass) promotes greater utilization of spectrum resources.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 109-111)

    Complex permittivity of materials at broadband frequency using transmission phase shift method

    This paper reports determination of complex relative permittivity of non-magnetic samples Teflon, Nylon and Epoxy via transmission phase shift method. The transmission phase shift method offers calibration independent and invariant position features. In this work, a Coaxial Cavity Test Fixture (CCTF) with dimension of 1.8 and 4.1 mm for inner and outer conductor, respectively was customized based on impedance matching theory to study broadband scattering in the range of frequency 1-18 GHz. Impedance matching and cable calibration were performed to reduce the measurement error of scattering parameters; reflection and transmission . Magnitude and phase of and were measured by vector network analyzer (VNA). The measured phase of ( ) for all samples under test were linearized using the MATLAB “unwrap” command for further calculation of . The phase shift in between with and without sample inside the cavity was detected and it was used to determine for each material under test. The average value of dielectric constants for Teflon, Nylon and Epoxy were 2.11, 2.42 and 3.05, correspondingly for the selected frequency 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 GHz. While, the average of dielectric losses for Teflon and Epoxy were almost overlapped which the values were 0.001 and 0.002, respectively that were higher than that of Nylon at 0.0006. The calculated values are comparable with the theoretical values with small absolute errors.     Appeal to education in Kazakh and Turkish literary works (Examples of the works of Beimbet Maylin and Omer Saiffeddin)

    The article examines the school-labor-educational appeal in the works of the Kazakh writer Beimbet Maylin and the Turkish writer Omer Saifeddine, who were engaged in writing during the period of general world changes and national conflicts at the beginning of the 20th century. be under consideration. Two poets, not indifferent to the suffering of their people, accompanied the pen for twenty years; the place and educational tones in the works of the Kazakh and Turkish narrative genres differ. Writers, who from the very beginning knew that education was the only factor influencing the development of their nation, have always accompanied enlightenment. The author, who is not opposed to modernity, creates a certain criterion in search of the compatibility of news useful for society with the “national identity” of the nation. Operating from this perspective, he adheres to a number of new style educational models and practices offered to the Turkish people, especially those promoted by the Committee of Union and Progress after 1908. A good observer and critic, Omer Seyfeddine, criticizes those models of social behavior that correspond to the national identity of the Turkish nation and are formed as a result of foreignness. Along with this criticism, he also expresses his own attitude towards education. The stories and prose of Beimbet Maylin and Omer Seyfeddin are discussed, and the basic elements of education in these genres are also considered, such as direct education and school, class, teacher, and the formation of an educational environment. The first problem facing any nation is the problem of school. Education and schooling have shown how important public education is. These are educational institutions that teach language literacy and promote innovative ideas. The emergence of new Methodist schools. Centuries-old schools did not provide young people with the necessary worldly knowledge and skills. Therefore, new educational schools began to open. The history of the opening of these schools is described differently in different books. It is known that the work of individual people played a special role in the growth and development of any nation. The study of their spiritual relics and their moral deeds makes a great contribution to national revival and development.
