HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN THE ADSORBENT BED OF AN ADSORPTION HEAT PUMP
The heat and mass transfer equations governing an adsorbent bed in an adsorption heat p mp and the mass balance equation for the adsorbent particles in the adsorbent bed were solved numerically to simulate the cycle of a basic adsorption heat pump, which includes isobaric adsorption, isosteric heating, isobaric desorption, and isosteric cooling processes. The finite difference method was used to solve the set of governing equations, which are highly nonlinear and coupled. The pressures of the evaporator and condenser were 2 and 20 kPa, respectively, and the regeneration temperature of the bed was 403 K. Changes in the temperature, adsorptive pressure, and adsorbate concentration in the adsorbent bed at different steps of the cycle were determined. The basic simulated cycle is presented in a Clausius-Clapeyron diagram, which illustrates the changes in average pressure and temperature of the adsorbent bed throughout the cycle. The results of the simulation indicated that the most time-consuming processes in the adsorption heat pump cycle were isobaric adsorption and isobaric desorption. The high thermal resistance of the bed slows down heat transfer, prolonging adsorption and desorption processes.State Planning Organization of Turkey (2003K120690 (DPT-6)
Microcalorimetric investigation of water vapor adsorption on silica gel
Water vapor adsorption on silica gel was investigated using Tian-Calvet-type microcalorimetry. Differential heat of adsorption data was obtained. The setup of microcalorimetry was used volumetric system to determine adsorption isotherms of water vapor-silica gel. The Langmuir model was used in the interpretation of the adsorption data. The Clausius-Clapeyron diagram was also given. Effective mass diffusivity of water vapor in the silica gel particle as a function of temperature was also determined. The silica gel, which was degassed under vacuum at 10 -7 mbar and 120 °C for 18 h, was found to adsorb 0.6, 0.98, 1.1, 1.4, 2, 3.5, 11, 13, and 14 wt% water vapor at 120, 110, 100, 90, 75, 60, 40, 35, and 30 °C, respectively. The diffusivities of water vapor inside the silica gel for short- and long-range periods were described using kinetics data as a function of temperature in the Arrhenius form.State Planning Organization of Turkey (2003K120690 (DPT-6)
Influence of surface modification of fillers and polymer on flammability and tensile behaviour of polypropylene-composites
An intumescent system consisting of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as an acid source and blowing agent, pentaerythritol (PER) as a carbonific agent and natural zeolite (clinoptilolite, Gördes II) as a synergistic agent was used in this study to enhance flame retardancy of polypropylene (FR-PP). Zeolite was incorporated into flame retardant formulation at four different concentrations (1, 2, 5, and 10 wt%) to investigate synergism with the flame retardant materials. Filler content was fixed at 30 wt% of total amounts of flame retardant PP composites. Zeolite and APP were treated with two different coupling agents namely, 3-(trimethoxysilyl)-1-propanethiol and (3-aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane for investigation of the influence of surface treatments on mechanical properties and flame retardant performance of composites. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) was used for making polypropylene hydrophilic. Flammability of FR-PP composites was measured by the determination of limiting oxygen index (LOI). The LOI values reached to a maximum value of 41% for mercapto silane treated APP:PER (2:1) PP composite containing 5 wt% zeolite. The tensile strength of composites was increased by the addition of MAPP and elongation at break of composites was increased with silane treatments
Additifs sous forme de particules métalliques utilisés afin d’augmenter le transfert de chaleur à travers un lit absorbant non consolidé
The effects of metal piece additives on effective thermal conductivity and diffusivity of an unconsolidated adsorbent bed in which adsorbent is silica gel were investigated. The metal piece additives were copper, brass, aluminum and stainless steel with two different sizes as 1.0-2.8 mm and 2.8-4.75 mm. The effective thermal conductivity and diffusivity of the mixed bed were predicted by comparison of the experimental results with the solution of dimensionless heat conduction equation for the bed. The performed experiments showed that the addition 15wt% of aluminum pieces with sizes between 1.0 and 2.8 mm enhances the effective thermal diffusivity and conductivity of a pure silica gel bed by 157% and 242%, respectively. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd and IIR.State Planning Organization of Turke
Prevalence of eimeria species in chickens in Bursa
Bu çalışma, Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsünde Recep Tınar'ın danışmanlığında Semra Demir tarafından yazılan "Bursa bölgesi tavuklarında coccidiose etkenleri ve bunların yayılışı" adlı doktora tezine dayanılarak hazırlanmıştır.Araştınnada Bursa il smırlan içinde bulunall 45 kümesten rastgele seçilen 1396 tavugım dışkısı muayene edilerek coccidiose etkenleri aran· mış, göriılen occystlerin tür identifikasyonlan yapılmış ve gram dışkıdaki oocyst miktarlan sayılmıştır. Aynca hastalık semptomu gösteren 53 ta vugun otopsisi yapilarak lezyonlu bölgeler histopatolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Yapılan muayeneler sonunda 1396 tavuga ait dlşkı önneginden 740 (% 53.0) ında Eimeria tarlerinden E. necatrix, E. tenella, E. brunett~ E. mitis, E. maxima olmak üzere beş türilli oocystleri saf veya miks enfek siyon şeklinde görülmüştür. Enfekte hayvan oram etçi ve yumurtacı ırk gruplarında sırasıyla % 56.8 ve % 51.3 bulunmuştur. Yetiştimıe tipleri dikkate alındıgında bu oran yer sistemi uygulanan kümeslerçle % 63.8, ızgara sistemi uygulanan larda % 57.8, kafes sistemi uygulananlarda % 20.5 olmuştur. Histopatoljik muayenelerde bazı tilrlerin şizglıt, merozoit, ganıetosit gibi hücre içi gelişme dönemleri saptanmıştır. Yöre tavuklamıda coccidiosn etkenlerinin prevalensi yüksek olmakla birlikte genelde enfeksiyon şiddetinin düşük oldugu belirlenmiş olup has talık semptomu gösteren hayvan sayısının yok denecek kadar az oldugu gözlenmiştirTo understand the prevalence of coccidiosis and to detect tlıe causative Einıeria species bı the poultry produced in Bursa province, a sum of 1396 fecal samples from 45 flock were examined by flotation and modified McMaster nıetlıods. The collected oocyst were identifled mainly by the hight nıicroscopic morphological characteristics. In addition, a necropsy was peifomıed for 53 chickens to exambıe the pathological and lıistopatlıological changes. 740 out of 1396 fecal sanıpfes (53.0 %) were fowıd to be infec ted with tlıe following S species of tlıe gmus Eimeria as nıix or sin gle infections, E. necatrix, E. tella, E. brunetti, E. mitis, E. maxima. the bıfection rates were 56.8 % and 51.3 % in broiler and layer breeds respectively. the prevalences were varied between the flocks bılıabited in different management systems as follows: deepliller 63.8 %, slatted floor 57.8 % and cage lıouses 20.5 %. In necropcies the pathologicalchanges and the developmental stages of some Eimeria species were illustrated in the clinically infecled animals. Thee prevalence of bıfection bı the region were considered rather high though the symptonıs observed in infected flocks were not so severe
