Warren F. Seibert Papers
No full textDr. Warren F. Seibert specialized in instructional television research and development. An educational psychologist and television researcher, Dr. Seibert held academic positions at Purdue University, Michigan State University and Pennsylvania State University. From 1956 to 1963, Seibert worked at Purdue University as a TV Program Research Consultant and as an associate professor. His positions at Michigan State University (1969-1972) included work as a senior research scientist at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, and as founding chairman of the Department of Educational Resources at the School of Dentistry. In 1980, Seibert moved to the Washington, DC area to be chief of the Educational Research and Evaluation Branch of the National Medical Audiovisual Center of the National Library of Medicine. He wrote many publications on educational broadcasting and other subjects, and has lectured extensively on educational broadcasting both nationally and internationally. This collection contains instructional television studies, conference documents, materials on Seibert's participation in the National Association of Educational Broadcasters and documents regarding the Open University system

In general, the videos show sediment entrainment by combinations of high-frequency vertical shaking and steady (low frequency) horizontal fluid flow. Sediments include sands and mixtures of sand, silt, and clay, as detailed in the article.The largest earthquakes are infrequent and poorly understood. We propose that seismic waves from major subduction earthquake ruptures can move the overlaying sea floor relatively to the water vigorously enough to entrain sediment. We used physical tank experiments to test and further develop this model. We show that relative water velocities consistent with long-period earthquake motion can mobilize synthetic fine marine sediment, and that high frequency vertical shaking can enhance this mobilization. Earthquake-induced seafloor motion for Tohoku-like earthquakes can entrain several centimeters of surficial sediment, depending on sediment characteristics including clay type, grain size, water content and salinity. High-frequency vertical shacking can enhance this entrainment. We have validated a new mechanism of co-seismic sediment entrainment in deep-water environments.

Continuing from the November 23rd interview, Seibert discusses his career at WMU as Vice President of Academic Affairs. He recalls board members, campus renovations, building the Honors College curriculum, relations with the state representatives, student unrest in the 70s including the bombing of the ROTC building by student radicals and the black action group’s take over of the student union building, difficulties launching the Martin Luther King Program, the transition of WMU’s status as a teachers college to that of a university in 1957, and the launching of several programs including medieval studies and the business college and the college of fine arts.No audio available
