In the circle of the 20th century dystopia. About reading the novel “Otok snova” by Damir Miloš
The article is an attempt to show the novel Otok snova (Island of Dreams,1996) by Damir Miloš as an example of a dystopian text. The author portrays the presented world of the book, first, as a postmodern consumer space where the pursuit of attractions is a dominant human activity, second, she presents the same picture through the prism of hyperbolic deformation. In the novel the original idyll takes the contours of hell, as she suggests. However, the reflection does not finish in a defeatist way. The author indicates a possibility of transition from dystopia to micro-utopia, but only in the case of reading the novel in the context of other works written by Damir Miloš
A Damastion Tetrobol – Fake or Original?
Autor Damir Kovač godinama skuplja novac Damastija i piše o njemu.
The author Damir Kovač has for years collected Damastion coins and written about them. In most cases he acquired numismatic material from various auction houses and at numismatic meetings in Munich, Vienna and elsewhere. More recently, Damastion coins have usually been offered by the well-known American auction house CNG – Classical Numismatic Group, Lancaster, PA (hereinafter: CNG). At one of its renowned auctions the author purchased a tetrobol of the city of Damastion, happy to have enriched his collection with a new coin from that still enigmatic city. However, analysis of that coin by well-known experts raised doubts about the originality of the recently purchased tetrobol. The authors show why they had the tetrobol analysed and cite the analyses results. Based on their own experience, the authors want to caution numismatists to be careful when purchasing numismatic material
Qalandar-name. Chapter 2. “Praise and blessing upon Muhammad Mustafa”
The present fragment contains the translated continuation of a medieval poetic text “Qalandar-name” written by the Crimean Sufi author Abu Bakr Qalandar. This fragment contains the second chapter devoted to praising (Salawat) the Prophet Muhammad, after which the poet will glorify his righteous caliphs (al-Khulafa al-rashidun). As it appears from the author’s praises, he was a follower of Sunni Islam and, at the same time, a representative of the Sufi order (tariqa). Titles and names that Abu Bakr Kalandar uses in his chanting of Muhammad, are very familiar both to researchers of the Islamic religion and ordinary Muslims. He calls the Prophet the Lord (Sayyid) of both worlds, Elect, Light, Leader of all the prophets and saints. The author mentions some famous miracles of the Messenger of Allah, such as the night journey (Isra) and ascension to the seventh heaven (Mi’raj), the moon’s splitting and inanimate objects’ speaking. He also makes an allusion to the mystical interpretation of the Qur’an in relation to the hair of the Prophet. The Persian text is translated by Milyausha Ismagilova, a postgraduate student. Translation edition and comments are supplied by Damir Shagaviyev, Head of the Department of History of Public Thought and Islamic Studies of the Sh.Marjani Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan).

The smell and colour of words. Attempts at intersemiotic translation and synaesthesia in Damir Miloš’s works "Smetlar" and "Bijeli klaun"
The aim of the intersemiotic and conceptual prose of Damir Miloš is to overcome the limitations
of language and literary description, especially when presenting reality through the
prism of sensual experience, both visual and olfactory. In Miloš’s prose the interconnectedness
of art forms, often perceived today as a symptom of a literary crisis or a trend towards
intermediality, becomes a special and convenient pretext to use intersemiotic translation,
visuality and synaesthesia as a means of presenting sensuality in literature. The Croatian
author creates a world in which his protagonists, marked with certain incapacities or hypersensitivity
of senses (an absolute sense of smell, colour-blindness or blindness), conjure up
their own individual and subjective reality. Thus, Miloš stresses the postmodern aspect of the
multiplicity of truths and perspectives
Qalandar-name. Chapter 3. “Praises to Abu Bakr, Commander of the Faithful”
The presented fragment is the next part of the translation of the medieval poetic text “Qalandar-name” written by Abu Bakr Qalandar, the Sufi scholar from the Crimea. This Chapter is devoted to praises to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (The Truthful), the Successor of the Prophet Muhammad, the first of the four Righteous Caliphs (al-Khulafa al-Rashidun). Within the nine rows the author mentions the virtues of Abu Bakr making the main emphasis on truthfulness, loyalty and sincerity of this Prophet’s companion. The Persian text is translated by Milyausha Ismagilova, the postgraduate student. The translation’s edition and comments are supplied by Damir Shagaviev, Head of the Department of History of Social Thought and Islamic Studies at the Sh.Marjani Institute of History of AS RT (Kazan).

Discplinska odgovornost policijskih službenika
The paper outlines the whole disciplinary procedure for the police officers in the Republic of Croatia, including statistical data for the procedures conducted from 2002 to 2005 at the Department of Disciplinary Procedures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In the introductory part of the paper, the author has emphasised the importance of police service as well as of respect for the duties of the police officers, stressing that police officers are held responsible for improper behaviour both at and outside work.
The concept and character of disciplinary responsibility of police officers,
general prerequisites for disciplinary responsibility, bodies in charge of conducting the procedure, and the parties to the procedure are analysed next. Analysing procedural provisions according to which disciplinary procedure is conducted, the author emphasises the inadequacies in implementation of the Law on Criminal Proceedings and the Law on General Administrative Procedure, and stresses the necessity of passing a special law that would regulate that area comprehensively.
Then follow the chapters on instituting the procedure, oral hearing, procedure costs, statute of limitations for institution and conduct of the procedures, types of disciplinary offences and disciplinary sanctions, legal remedies, and court protection.
Statistical analysis of the work performed at the Department of Disciplinary Procedures (Ministry of Internal Affairs) outlines all disciplinary procedures conducted against police officers. The author analyses individual institutes and identifies previous regulations, regulations concerning disciplinary responsibility of other state civil servants, judges and district attorneys, normative solutions in comparative legislation, and judgements of disciplinary courts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Administrative Court, the Constitutional
Court, and the European Court of Human Rights.
Finally, the author suggests changes of certain regulations in order to ensure efficiency and eliminate normative dilemmas in the conduct of disciplinary procedures. He is of the opinion that it is necessary to retain specialised disciplinary courts within the Ministry of Internal Affairs due to the specific nature of police service and the required efficiency and legality of its functioning
Submissions and complaints to the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia
The author provides an overview of legislation, while indicating statistical data, which regulates filing and investigating submissions and complaints regarding the work and conduct of the employees of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia. The author emphasizes the need to protect the employees from malevolent unfounded submissions charging them for violations of the law, as well as the need for more clear and precise regulation of the investigation procedure, and the rights of employees during and after the proceedings. As a special value in the legislation, the author emphasizes introducing two stages in deciding on complaints, whereby in the second stage the decision is made by the Commission consisting of one police officer and two representatives of the public appointed by the competent parliamentary Committee
