No full textMartin introduced the Model 0-16 New York in the 1960\u27s to address the folk market. The guitar was based on the Martin guitars of the 19th century. "New York" referred to the location of Martin\u27s factory at that time. The guitar was designed to be used with "silk and steel" strings if desired, which consisted of either steel wrapped around a silk core or a steel core wrapped in silk and then wrapped in steel. Many folk artists produced the mellow sound produced by this type of strings. C.F.
