The purpose of this thesis is to present Alois Jirásek as an author of popular texts, both educative and tendentious, published in contemporary periodicals or reprinted in his collected works as the case may be; and thus adjust his conventional picture as a writer exclusively of fiction. Jirásek's writings on historical and cultural topics, having largely been on the margins of scholarly focus (as secondary literature appears to refer to them on very few occasions), shall be stratified and characterized here, as well as contrasted and compared with the works of other selected authors. The work attempts to reflect their merits educative and instructive, and - assembling all the fundamental information - aims to serve as the basis for further research and outline its possibilities. This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the unpublished travel book from Mexico of the Czech traveler, journalist, orientalist and polyglot Alois Richard Nykl. The criticism of the source is designed to reveal the personality of Alois Richard Nykl as much as possible, who is a little-known scientist in the current Czech environment. The author focuses on his judgments about the Mexican Indian population in the post-revolution era of the 1920s. Based on Nykl's statements, the thesis seeks to provide a comprehensive view of the changing social position of the Indians in the context of the new political concept of the Mexican state. The work, among other things, points to Nykl's interest in anthropology and archeology in an already broad range of his interests and knowledge. The thesis highlights Nykl's devotion to studying multidisciplinary information about Mexico, even though he was a specialist in Andalusian and comparative literature

The thing is that after the creation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 Jirásek became the official symbol of the literature of the new state, and younger authors followed him ideologically, thematically, and after the formal construction of works. Jirásek's authority didn't weaken in the second half of the 20th century, when his method of literary interpretation of Czech history was ideologically misused. On the basis of literary analysis of two historical novels (Proti všem and Temno), the author of thesis describes Jirásek's narrative style and the means of expression that gives the writer the possibility to reach the art effectiveness of his novels. The thesis also puts a question whether the works by Alois Jirásek are alive today. Keywords Alois Jirásek, historical novel, interpretation of Czech history, Hussite movement, literary analysi
