Ornamental title page in ink and wash.; Condition: Scratch marks on board.; Selected items are also available online at: http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-vn6485391; Purchased from Harbeck Rare Books, 2014. The first album documents Schiesser's time in the German army around 1908/09 and his family presumably in Würzburg and or Damrstadt. Includes photographs relating to Schiesser's work on the German steamer Prinz Sigismund documenting visits to China, New Guinea and particularly Japan, which was impounded in Brisbane by the Australian Government in 1914. Also includes photographs of Parramatta, Brisbane and Sydney many of what appear to be German families. Many show the wharves at Brisbane and Sydney, and significantly Brisbane buildings such as the windmill on Wickham Terrace, the Old Museum building, St Bridget's at Red Hill and the Botanic Gardens. There are also photographs of the internees camp arts and crafts exhibition, displaying wood-turned chess sets, a model of the camp and ships, drawings, centrepieces, wall plagues and model engine.--Information from acquisitions documentation

The second album contains photographs of Holsworthy camp, choir, mandolin and guitar orchestra, an artists' club,acrobatic performances, actors, and scenes from theatre performances, pole vaulting, a wood working workshop and bridge building activities, presumably by German internees used as forced labour.
