To serve and protect: A typology of service robots and their role in physically safe services
Purpose Although consumers feel that the move towards service robots in the frontline so far was driven by firms’ strive to replace human service agents and realize cost savings accordingly, the COVID-19 pandemic has led customers to appreciate robots’ ability to provide services in ways that keeps them safe and protected from the virus. Still, research on this topic is scant. This article offers guidance by providing a theoretical backdrop for the safety perspective on service robots, as well as outlining a typology that researchers and practitioners can use to further advance this field. Design/methodology/approach A typology is developed based on a combination of a theory- and practice-driven approach. Departing from the type of behavior performed by the service robot, the typology synthesizes three different service robot roles from past literature, and proposes three new safety-related role extensions. These safety-related roles are derived from a search for examples of how service robots are used in practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings The typology’s roles are corroborated by discussing relevant robot implementations around the globe. Jointly, the six roles give rise to several ideas for future research. Originality This manuscript is (one of) the first to provide in-depth attention to the phenomenon of service customers’ physical safety needs in the age of service robots. In doing so, it discusses and ties together theories and concepts from different fields, such as hierarchy of needs theory, evolutionary human motives theory, perceived risk theory, regulatory focus theory, job-demand resources theory, and theory of AI job replacement

This introductory essay to the special issue Beatrice of Nazareth (1200-1268). Milieu – Mysticism – Influence first offers a brief presentation of the life and literary legacy of the famous Cistercian nun, mystic and author who takes centre stage in the present volume. It then elucidates the emergence and subsequent international popularity of Beatrice studies, and discusses the diverse approaches that can be discerned in the current multidisciplinary scholarship on Beatrice. Finally, it explains how the five essays which are collected in this volume open up new avenues for research into the thirteenth-century Cistercian world and for future Beatrice studies
Principles and Principals: Do Customer Stewardship and Agency Control Compete or Complement When Shaping Frontline Employee Behavior?
This article introduces customer stewardship control (CSC) to the marketing field. This concept represents a frontline employee's felt ownership of and moral responsibility for customers' overall welfare. In two studies, the authors show that CSC is a more encompassing construct than customer orientation, which reflects a frontline employee's focus on meeting customers' needs. They provide evidence that the former is more potent in shaping in- and extra-role employee behaviors. Moreover, they highlight how CSC operates in conjunction with an organization's agency control system: Stewardship's positive influence on in- and extra-role behavior is weaker in the presence of high agency control. They offer actionable advice about how to solve the resulting managerial control dilemma. Finally, the authors show that CSC depends on drivers that reside at the individual level (employee relatedness), the team level (team competence), or both levels of aggregation (employee and team autonomy). These findings show how to effectively design a frontline employee's work environment to ensure optimal frontline performance

Unlike mammals, adult zebrafish are capable of regenerating their hearts without scarring after injury – a process that has great therapeutic potential. A new paper in Development investigates the role of Prxx1b, a transcription factor that is expressed in epicardial heart tissue after injury, to understand its role in the scar-free regeneration of the adult zebrafish heart. Surveys of flying bird nesting areas and adelie penguin colonies in the Windmill Islands 1998/99 by Jonny Stark and Jeroen Creuwels
Progress Code: completedStatement: The locations of some colonies on Nelly Island (Frazier Islands), a South Polar Skua nest site on Dewart Island (Frazier Islands) and some South Polar Skua nest sites on Ardery Island were eyed in using as a guide field survey sketches by Jeroen Creuwels in June 1999. The locations of some further colonies on the Frazier Islands, a Southern Giant-petrel nest site on Dewart Island (Frazier Islands) and some Snow Petrel nest sites at Casey Station were sourced from a differentially corrected GPS survey by Jonny Stark of the Australian Antarctic Division in 1998/99. The following data relevant to Jeroen Creuwels' 1998/99 work on Ardery Island were sourced from another differentially corrected GPS survey by Jonny Stark in 1998/99: Antarctic Petrel reference area, Southern Fulmar reference area, Cape Petrel study area, Cape Petrel reference area and the location of the observation point for the 1998/99 bird census.
