Local Blaschke-Kakutani ellipsoid characterization and Banach's isometric subspaces problem
We prove the following local version of Blaschke-Kakutani's characterization of ellipsoids: Let V be a finite-dimensional real vector space, B subset of V a convex body with 0 in its interior, and 2 <= k < dim Van integer. Suppose that the body B is contained in a cylinder based on the cross-section B boolean AND X for every k-plane X from a connected open set of linear k-planes in V. Then in the region of V swept by these k-planes B coincides with either an ellipsoid, or a cylinder over an ellipsoid, or a cylinder over a k-dimensional base. For k = 2 and k = 3 we obtain as a corollary a local solution to Banach's isometric subspaces problem: If all cross-sections of B by k-planes from a connected open set are linearly equivalent, then the same conclusion as above holds. Poetic mythology of Daniil Kharms
The objetive of this thesis is to analyse the self-writing of the Russian poet and writer Daniil Kharms (1905-1942): his notes in notepads, his almost-biographical prose, such as the novel Old Woman (1939), his letters and self-portraits, especially in the 1930s, a time when these arts about oneself start to interact in a more emphatic way, when the writer and his work mix up in a very particular way. As the study on his notepads defines the central element of this research and this material has not been previously published in Brazil, it will be also presented a translation of a part of his notepads and little diary, from 1924 to 1940. Furthermore, by the perspective taken in this study, a detailed biography of the author was conducted. Kharms was one of the founders of Oberiu, the last avant-garde Russian group. Hence, the study also debates the importance of the art and philosophy of Krutchónykh, Khlébnikov, Bergson, Malévitch e tchinari to the work of Kharms, who became one of the most singular and talented contemporary Russian authors, compared to Franz Kafka, Eugène Ionesco e Samuel Beckett
Jean-Philippe Jaccard, From the reality to the text. The absurd and Daniil Kharms.
The object of this article is to demonstrate on basis of works - mostly unpublished - the coherence between the philosophical vision of the world of Daniil Kharms and his poetics. The label "absurd" is applied in the first place to the fundamental duality ruling the relationship between man and a world viewed as sum total of particles with no connection between them. A certain number of notions comprised in the theoretical texts of Kharms will be studied within this framework: the law of equilibrium, the principle of asymmetry, minor errors ("nebol 'shaia pogreshnost ' "), etc. We will then see that this duality is expressed in the texts in prose of the author. First, on the thematic level: the creation of a particular type of character: a "sucker" thrust into a hostile world. Also on the level of form: the general tendency of text towards autodestruction (either by withdrawal into itself or by dispersal). It will be noted that the resulting nonsense and the comical element it supposes, raises this prose to the rank of global parody of the traditional processes of narration, whilst Kharms suggests an attempt at extra-ideological reply to great metaphysical questions.
Jaccard Jean-Philippe. The child and the child-like in Daniil Charms
In his lifetime Daniil Charms only succeeded in publishing two of his poems for adults. Publicly he was a children's author: a job in the Soviet Union which traditionally attracted many writers whose literature for adults was either rejected by the official literary system or had to be hidden altogether if its creators wanted to avoid trouble.
In fact up to the present day it is still Charms the children's author who is best known and loved, although finally under new historical and political conditions the writer for adults has also been allowed to make his debut. However, whatever he wrote, Charms' work was always dominated by an absurdist world view, a view that usually denied all dogma or ideology. His only aim seems to have been to present a world upside down and play around with literary and other conventions, i.e. more than anything else he wanted to be different, acting as a sort of literary "punk".
Although Charms and his associates were preceded by European absurdist authors, such as A. Jarry (1873-1907), it is very difficult to establish any relationship of influence between examples of Western European absurdism and Daniil Charms. Nonetheless, Charms' work, as well as that of Jarry, Ionesco and Beckett, all share the "grotesquely comic as well as irrational" (Abrams 1981: 1) quality of the absurdist movement in its larger modernist context
The article focuses on the Epistle to Vladimir Monomach (Poslanie k Vladimiru Monomachu) written by bishop Daniil († 1121). The author offers an analysis based on the literary and pragmatic function of biblical quotations within the text. Through it, she establishes that the Epistle belongs to the literary form of spiritual teachings. She then considers the liturgical and historical circumstances surrounding the genesis of the text by comparing it with the Epistle to Vladimir Monomach on fasting (Poslanie Vladimiru Monomachu o poste) written by mitropolit Nikifor I († 1121). The results of the comparison allow her to formulate the hypothesis that Daniil and Nikifor wrote their Epistles shortly before Easter in 1114.Oggetto del saggio è il Poslanie k Vladimiru Monomachu (Epistola a Vladimir Monomach) del vescovo Daniil († 1121).

Semantics of Gestures, Postures and Voices in the Prose of Daniil Kharms: baccalaureate work. – Riga, 2012. – 65 p.
The present research is devoted to the analysis of the cycle “Incidents” and the novel “The Old Woman” by Daniil Kharms. The researcher analyses the semantics of gestures, posture and voice, and their meaning in the context of the peculiarities of the author`s work and biography.
The research is divided into three parts. The first part envelopes basic theories connected with nonverbal semiotics, which are necessary for the study. The second and the third parts present the actual analysis of the cycle “Incidents” and the novel “The Old Woman”.
The paper might prove itself useful to philologists, the researchers of Daniil Kharms` works and avant-garde literature in whole, and additionally the readers, interested in this particular area
Enclosure, Writing, and Resistance: Revisiting the Prose of Daniil Kharms
The author argues that discipline—operating through the distribution of individuals by means of enclosure and surveillance—is crucial to understanding Daniil Kharms’s prose of the 1930s. The author focuses on three of his mini-stories, first looking at mechanisms of surveillance in “Dream,” examining their effects upon the psyche that have material impacts on the body of the individual. Then he turns to a trajectory of enclosure that operates from the urban commons (“Trial by Lynching”) to the home (“An Unexpected Drinking Party”). The centripetal trajectory of enclosure ends in all cases at the body as the endpoint of discipline and, ultimately, the site of Kharms’s “grotesque resistance,” challenging the enclosure of the body from the point of its confinement. He also takes a look at how paper—as theme in and medium of Kharms’s work—operates within these spatial dynamics. He draws upon Harold Innis, who associated the rise of print in the United States with the “space bias” of communication. Reading Foucault and Innis together, Kharms’s short prose works can be understood as a contestation of the space bias associated with the explosion of print media in the Stalinist era, prompting Kharms’s retreat to the contours of the body as a site of struggle
