Morey Schapira (1949- ) Papers 1963, 1965-1993, 2010
The papers of Morey Schapira reflect the work of the prominent activist of the American Soviet Jewry movement in the years 1965-1993. The collection includes details on Mr. Schapira’s leadership role with organizations Action for Soviet Jewry, the Bay Area Council on Soviet Jewry, the New England Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, and the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews. The collection contains files on many other groups, individuals and topics. The collection was donated in two parts. Some records from the New England Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry were donated by Morey Schapira in 1975. The major bulk of the collection was donated by the University of Colorado at Boulder when the University's collection of Soviet Jewry materials were acquired by the American Jewish Historical Society,Schapira, MoreyUniversity of Colorado at Boulder20110503far0315digitized in par

The Radon–Penrose Correspondence II: Line Bundles and Simple -Modules
AbstractOn a complex manifoldXof dimension ⩾3, we show that coherent DX-modules which are “simple” all overP*Xare classified by Pic(X), the family of holomorphic line bundles onX. As a corollary, using the Penrose transform, we obtain that on the complex Minkowski space M, simple DM-modules along the characteristic variety of the wave equation are classified by (half) integers, the so-called helicity
Radon–Penrose transform for D-Modules
AbstractLet[formula]be a correspondence of complex analytic manifolds,Fbe a sheaf onX, and M be a coherent DX-module. Consider the associated sheaf theoretical and D-module integral transforms given byΦSF=Rg!f−1F[d] andΦSM=g!f−1M, whereRg!andf−1(resp.gandf−1) denote the direct and inverse image functors for sheaves (resp. for D-modules), andd=dS−dYis the difference of dimension betweenSandY. In this paper, assuming thatfis smooth, gis proper, and (f, g) is a closed embedding, we prove some general adjunction formulas for the functorsΦSandΦS. Moreover, under an additional geometrical hypothesis, we show that the transformationΦSestablishes an equivalence of categories between coherent DX-modules, modulo flat connections, and coherent DY-modules with regular singularities along an involutive manifoldV, modulo flat connections (hereVis determined by the geometry of the correspondence). Applications are given to the case of Penrose's twistor correspondence
The protective role of coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E on antioxidant defense system in the heart of cadmium treated rats
Cadmium (Cd) is an important pollutant of environment which accwnulates in the liver and the kidneys, as well as in other tissues. Cd induces oxidative damage causing many metabolic, histological and pathological changes, such as nephrotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, increased lipid peroxidation (LP) and alteration of the antioxidant defense system (AOS). Recent studies have shown that coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and vitamin E (Vit E) are the powerful liposoluble antioxidants, which inhibit lipid peroxidation and thus prevent free radical med.iated oxidative injuries. It is well known that CoQ10 and Vit E may act synergistically as antioxidants. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible protective influence of CoQ10 and Vit E in Cd induced oxidative stress in the rat hearts.Littaru GP, Schapira A, editors.
Studies on the human plasma kallikrein-kinin system: alpha-kallikrein does not directly activate blood neutrophils
alpha-Kallikrein was prepared using an improved purification protocol (Burger, D., Schleuning, W.-D. and Schapira, M. (1986) J. Biol. Chem. 261, 324-327) and was employed to reevaluate our previous observations indicating that kallikrein activates blood neutrophils by a mechanism requiring an uncleaved Mr 52,000 NH2-terminal heavy chain. Cellular activation was evaluated by measuring neutrophil aggregation, release of both vitamin B12 binding capacity and myeloperoxidase, and generation of superoxide anion. Whereas all these indicators were evoked by exposing neutrophils to f-Met-Leu-Phe, phorbol myristate acetate, zymosan activated serum, or the calcium ionophore A 23187, we show here that neutrophils incubated with alpha-kallikrein remained unactivated. Moreover, we demonstrate that this lack of activation is accompanied by an inability of neutrophils to specifically bind alpha-kallikrein
