Design of a linear quadratic gaussian controller for a manufacturing process
Yurtseven, Murat Kudret (Dogus Author), Ağaran, Berrin (Dogus Author)In this study, the design procedure and the performance analysis of a linear quadratic gaussian controller (LQGC) are presented. The controller is expected to regulate the production–inventory process of a manufacturing system along a pre-determined trajectory within the plant hierarchical control system; the hierarchical control structure is also described briefly in this chapter. The LQGC is based on a dynamic, discrete-time, and a stochastic model, aggregating products, and production processes. The simulation results show that the LQGC is well -suited for the intended purpose
Photocatalytic degradation kinetics of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dyestuff on TiO2 modified by pretreatment with ultrasound energy
In the photocatalytic degradation of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dyestuff, the photocatalytic activity of Riedel-de Haen brand TiO2, whose photocatalytic activity is low, was increased by ultrasound energy applied as a photocatalyst in the experiments. The BET surface areas of TiO2 with and without ultrasound treatment were 38 and 4 m(2)/g. The initial dye concentration, temperature and the effects of light intensity on the photocatalytic degradation kinetics of RB5 were examined. It was determined that the photocatalytic degradation follows pseudo-first order kinetics, depending on the dye concentration. The activation energy of the reaction was determined to be 29.3 kJ/mol
Effect of Ultrasound Energy on the Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2
Although several semiconducting metal oxides are used in photocatalysis works, it is known that the most attractive photocatalyst that is worked on most is TiO2 (titanium (IV) oxide). The reason for this is that the valence band hole of TiO2 is more positive, cheaper and more resistant to chemical substances when compared to the other semi-conductors. In this study, the effect of ultrasound energy on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 photocatalyst was examined by giving ultrasound energy to TiO2, which is a photocatalyst, at certain intervals. As a result of the SEM and BET analysis applied to TiO2, it was determined that ultrasound energy increased the surface area of TiO2 photocatalyst and as a result of this, it increased the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 photocatalyst
A Comparative Study on Nadine Gordimer's 'none To Accompany Me' and Its Turkish Translation in Terms of Postcolonial Themes and Language
The aim of this study is to examine the translation of Turkish version of Nadine Gordimer's first novel None to Acoompany Me written after receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature within the framework of style, language and theme. The reason why Nadine Gordimer was preferred in this study is to examine a South African woman author other than many important authors in the postcolonial period such as V. S. Naipaul, Chinua Achebe and Salman Rushdie. As None to Accompany Me has specific cultural elements, linguistic structures and postcolonial themes that are intrinsic to the postcolonial period, it is conceded to benefit from two translational approaches and one translation method during the analysis of translator's translation strategy. Paul Bandia's tripartite or three-tier translation approach will be used as the main method and Lawrence Venuti's foreignization and domestication approach and Vinay and Darbalnet's translation procedures will be considered as supporting methods during the qualitative comparison of two books. The first translation step of Bandia's approach will be analyzed within the framework of Vinay and Darbalnet's methods and the second and third steps of translation process will be assessed in terms of Lawrence Venuti's foreignization and domestication approach. In general, the aim of this study is to examine the transfer of indigenous style and thematic features that are specific to the postcolonial texts to the target culture and language that is unfamiliar to postcolonial spirit
Consensus recommendations for botulinum toxin injections in the spasticity management of children with cerebral palsy during COVID-19 outbreak
Spasticity is the most common motor disturbance in cerebral palsy (CP). Lockdown in the COVID-19 outbreak has profoundly changed daily routines, and similarly caused the suspension of spasticity treatment plans. Besides, the delay in botulinum toxin (BoNT) injection, which is important in the management of focal spasticity, led to some problems in children. This consensus report includes BoNT injection recommendations in the management of spasticity during the COVID-19 pandemic in children with CP. In order to develop the consensus report, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) specialists experienced in the field of pediatric rehabilitation and BoNT injections were invited by Pediatric Rehabilitation Association. Items were prepared and adapted to the Delphi technique by PMR specialists. Then they were asked to the physicians experienced in BoNT injections (PMR specialist, pediatric orthopedists, and pediatric neurologists) or COVID-19 (pediatric infectious disease, adult infectious disease). In conclusion, the experts agree that conservative management approaches for spasticity may be the initial steps before BoNT injections. BoNT injections can be administered to children with CP with appropriate indications and with necessary precautions during the pandemic

What Turkey expects from logistics outsourcing?
Ülengin, Füsun (Dogus Author) -- Ağaran, Berrin (Dogus Author) -- Önsel, Şule (Dogus Author) -- Conference full title: IX International logistics & supply chain congress: international retail logistics in the value era: 27-29 October 2011, Çesme, İzmir, TurkeyThe economies of the world have become increasingly interdependent, and organizations have come under tremendous pressure to maximize productivity and profitability. Creating value through outsourcing has emerged as a popular competitive strategy for firms of all sizes in all types of industries. The aim of this research is to investigate the use of third party logistics in Turkish companies from the users’ perspective to identify the types of logistics services outsourced, problems encountered in outsourcing these services, logistics costs, decision makers in outsourcing logistics activities, and information sources used in the decision-making process. A structured survey was selected as the tool for data collection. The field study involved face-to-face interviews with 204 companies out of top 500 companies ranked in terms of turnover that are registered with industrial associations and chambers of commerce in Turkey. Moreover, a decision support system based on Bayesian Causal Map is proposed for 3PLs in order to assist them in their service proposals for different sectors. This study is a first attempt to reveal and compare the outsourcing perception of the companies in different sectors, to expose the firms’ underlying motives as well as the respective importance of these motives for outsourcing logistics activities in Turkey. The use of Bayesian Causal Map based on the survey results provides an important guide to the 3PL providers to pick a suitable strategy and to prioritize their operational activities in different sectors in such a way to achieve a competitive advantage
