    Characteristics of Anupam Sud's art

    Anupam Sud is considered as one of the greatest contemporary artists in India. The author makes polish readers more familiar with this artist. We focused on Sud's main works – graphics, paintings and even a sculpture. The article contains discussion about one of Sud’s most widely used motifs– a woman in search of shakti. Moreover, it covers issues of human depravity, one’s contempt for another, and primarily it points out main problem being faced by Hindu women in a patriarchal society. We draw attention to the most characteristic features of Anupam Sud’s work – artwork as manifested (by which Sud tries to draw attention to the Hindu woman’s situation), chiaroscuro and anatomy.Anupam Sud jest zaliczana do grona najwybitniejszych współczesnych artystów w Indiach.     A parameter back-calculation technique for pavements under moving loads

    Maintenance and rehabilitation strategies of pavements are usually made based on the results of performance evaluation. An efficient tool for pavement structural evaluation at network level is the traffic speed deflectometer (TSD) test. In order to deal with TSD measurements, this paper proposes a parameter back-calculation technique. Firstly, the sensitivity of the surface response for an elastic pavement structure with hysteretic damping to different structural parameters is investigated. Then, the ability of the parameter backcalculation technique is verified by conducting a case study. The results show that the proposed technique is able to back-calculate the structural parameters of pavements by analysing TSD measurements.     A generic domain specific language for financial contracts

    Financial contracts require management, such as valuation, scheduling and generating legal documents. The current approach for managing financial contracts is inefficient, for lack of a universal language for representing contracts. Peyton Jones et al.'s proposed such a language, even though contracts are diverse and new ones are introduced often. We verify that Peyton Jones et al.'s language is expressive enough by using it to represent two new contracts: credit default swap and power reverse dual currency swap. We demonstrate its advantage by using the same program to value all contracts represented.     Fiscal deficits and government debt in India: Implications for growth and stabilisation.

    This paper examines the long term profile of fiscal deficit and debt relative to GDP in India, with a view to analysing debt-deficit sustainability issues along with the considerations relevant for determining suitable medium and short-term fiscal policy stance. The impact of debt and fiscal deficit on growth and interest rates that arises from their effect on saving and investment are critical in any examination of sustainability of debt and deficit. It is argued that large structural primary deficits and interest payments relative to GDP have had an adverse effect on growth in recent years. The Fiscal Responsibility and Budget management Act (FRBMA) of the central government has certain positive features. While the fiscal deficit target has been defined, it should be considered in conjunction with a target debt-GDP ratio. Further, the central FRBMA should be supplemented by state level fiscal responsibility legislations and an effective hard budget constraint on subnational borrowing. There is a clear need to bring down the combined debt-GDP ratio from its current level, which is in excess of 80 percent of GDP. The process of adjustment can be considered in two phases: adjustment phase and stabilisation phase. In the adjustment phase, fiscal deficit should be reduced in each successive year until revenue deficit, and correspondingly, government dissaving, is eliminated. In the second phase, fiscal deficit could be stabilised at 6 percent of GDP. The debt-GDP ratio would eventually stabilise at 56 percent. In this process, the ratio of interest payments to revenue receipts will fall, enabling a progressively larger amount of primary revenue expenditure to be incurred on the social sectors.Fiscal deficit ; Economic growth

    Predicting traction return current in electric railway systems through physics-informed neural networks

    This paper addresses the problem of determining the distribution of the return current in electric railway traction systems. The dynamics of traction return current are simulated in all three space dimensions by informing the neural networks with the Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) known as telegraph equations. In addition, this work proposes a method of choosing optimal activation functions for training the physics-informed neural network to solve higher-dimensional PDEs. We propose a Monte Carlo based framework to choose the activation function in lower dimensions, mitigating the need for ensemble training in higher dimensions. To further strengthen the applicability of the Monte Carlo based framework, experiments are presented under two loss functions governed by L2 and L∞ norms.     Ageing effect on the relaxation properties of bitumen

    The ageing of bitumen has a significant impact on the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete. In this study, Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) tests were utilized to investigate the effect of ageing on the relaxation properties of bituminous materials. PEN 70/100 bitumen films with thickness of 2 mm were exposed to laboratory ageing at various conditions. Specifically, different combinations of ageing time, temperature and pressure were applied on the bitumen films. Three evaluation indices, explicitly the shear stress at 0 s and 100 s, the ratio of shear stress at 0 s and 100 s and the time that shear stress reduces to 50% and 25% of the initial value, were used to determine the evolution of the relaxation properties of bitumen. The results show that, in comparison to fresh bitumen, aged samples show higher residual shear stresses after relaxation and are more susceptible to stress accumulation thus cracking. In addition, temperature, followed by pressure and ageing time, was found to have the stronger impact on bitumen ageing.Pavement Engineerin
