No full textThis article aims to discuss the new edition of John Dewey’s Lectures in China,
starting from a reconstruction of the theory of social conflict proposed by Dewey in the two
versions of the text. The relationship between interests and needs is at the core of this discussion.
Starting from the dialectical relationship between these two dimensions of human
social action, it becomes possible to articulate a Deweyan approach to two central issues of
contemporary social philosophy: recognition and hegemony. This approach will be analogous
in some ways and in other ways exceeding the major theoretical paradigms of the
two fields, respectively Honneth’s theory of recognition and Laclau’s theory of hegemony.
In order to develop this attempt, it will be necessary to recognize the incomplete nature of
the considerations that Dewey introduces in his lectures, and the need to refer to both earlier
and later works by Dewey

No full textThis article tackles the hypothesis of a layered theory of empathy – with main reference
to Anna Donise’s book Critica della ragione empatica. The first section of the article will
reconstruct the historical and conceptual itinerary achieved by Donise’s book, and its
main focus on the phenomenological tradition. In the second section I will focus on the
theoretical outcome of that itinerary, namely the layered conception of empathy. In the
third section I will discuss the ethical consequences entailed by such a layered conception.
The fourth section will discuss the advantages of adopting the layered conception of
empathy, by focusing on the relationship between empathy and psychoanalysis. Finally,
the theme of the relationship between ethics and the layered conception of empathy will
be tackled in the conclusions

Peirce, William James, George Herbert Mead, John Dewey, Jane Addams e Mary Parker Follett sono stati riscoperti, suscitando una nuova ondata di studi e di interesse per il pragmatismo. Il volume ricostruisce l’apporto del pensiero pragmatista nell’ambito specifico della filosofia sociale, confrontandosi con altre discipline: la filosofia politica, la filosofia morale, la sociologia, la scienza politica e la psicologia. Vengono messe in luce e riorganizzate le discussioni interne a un movimento composito e plurale, animato da personalità complesse e impossibili da confinare in un ambito tematico o disciplinare ristretto. La ricostruzione della filosofia sociale pragmatista andrà così di pari passo con la riflessione sulla validità e l’originalità dei suoi risultati teorici
