Hybrid Mode-Stirring Technique for Shielding Effectiveness Measurement of Enclosures Using Reverberation Chambers

    No full text
The paper presents a new method for the measurement of the shielding effectiveness of “small” enclosures. The technique implements a hybrid mode-stirring technique on nested reverberation chambers. The mismatching of the antenna radiating inside the enclosure under test is taken into account

Simulazione dell’ambiente elettromagnetico di un aeromobile in camera riverberante a basso fattore di qualità

    No full text

Low-Q Reverberation Chamber to Reproduce Aircraft-like EM Environment

    No full text
An existing shielded room was transformed into a low-Q reverberation chamber in order to perform EMC tests in an aircraft-like electromagnetic environment. An aluminum stirrer and a stepping motor were installed in the existing chamber to provide an appropriate mechanical stirring of the EM field. The performances of the chamber were characterized by means of calibration and Q-factor calculations. The Q-factor was intentionally lowered to reproduce the typical electromagnetic environment aboard aircraft. The performance of the chamber was evaluated when an amplitude modulated signal excites the cavity. The developed set-up was aimed to test the response of a sensor for the detection of portable electronic devices, which is sensitive only to GSM-modulated signals

EM modeling and design of electrically thin laminated absorbers

    No full text
The paper describes an equivalent circuit approach for the analysis and the electromagnetic design of innovative thin absorbers. The use of thin bilayers of metamaterials as spacer in dielectric Salisbury screen is discussed. It is demonstrated that narrow-band thin absorbers can be obtained using both positive and negative materials, whereas broad-band thin absorbing screen can be realized only with bilayer of epsilon-negative and mu-negative materials

Shielding performances of ITO transparent windows: Theoretical and experimental characterization

    No full text
The shielding performance of Indium-Titanium-Oxide (ITO) thin film depends on the characteristics of the impinging electromagnetic field, on the geometry of the shield, on the frequency range. In this paper, a complete experimental characterization of the shielding effectiveness of ITO transparent windows is performed by using three different approaches. The obtained results are compared in order to define the limit of applicability of each technique. In addition, numerical simulations are performed by applying the finite-difference time-domain method in order to assess the effects of the geometry of the test configuration on the obtained results

Shielding Effectiveness of Protective Metallic Wire Meshes: EM Modeling and Validation

    No full text
An effective-layer model is proposed to predict the EM shielding performances of metallic wire grids typically used as protective layers in carbon fiber-reinforced composite laminates for aeronautical applications. The model is valid over a wide frequency range and it takes into account the field penetration through the grating. The shielding performance of the wire grid is estimated by means of the average shielding effectiveness, which represents the response of the material to an incident plane wave having both transverse-magnetic and transverse-electric polarizations. The proposed model is validated by comparison with experimental data, which demonstrates its validity over a wide frequency range, up to 18 GHz
